We booked a night here based on the excellent reviews. My husband and I truly wondered if we were at the right place when we arrived. Unkempt garden, dirty paintwork (peeling off the window in the room we were given), musty smelling and generally dreary. Being asthmatic, the damp, musty smell alone was no good for me, but we wouldn't have stayed in such a place anyway. We forfeited the payment for the evening and booked elsewhere.

Very familiar and welcoming atmosphere. Stayed here meanwhile for the third time. The Chambre Royal is excellent for three people. The swimming pool is a welcoming refreshment after a long drive:) The host is very nice even he is pretending not to speak English ;) Montrichard is only few minutes away by car and offers good and affordable restaurants for dinner. Ask the host for recommendation. He can also make a reservation for you. Some worth-visiting Loire chateaux are close by. So you can stay here even few days longer to enjoy the fantastic Loire area.

Visited for a weekend with my wife. Charming place with a gracious innkeeper who had some lovely stories to share. The village was secluded and away from civilisation, which we loved. Would probably return next year, this time in the summer to enjoy the property to the fullest.

My wife and I stayed here for five nights in late September for our honeymoon. We stayed in the 'Double Chambre Royale.' It was a beautiful spacious room, with four poster bed, tasteful décor and a large bathroom with two sinks. The first thing we noticed was how beautiful and tastefully decorated the chateau is. The gardens were also large and obviously well kept. A gardener was working throughout our stay, and the owner also seemed to be gardening. Much of the summer colour had gone due to the time of year, but still very pleasant. The swimming pool was covered over, but the owner happily opened it and cleaned it for us to use. It's unheated, which meant a 20C swim in 25C sunshine - lovely and refreshing. The owner doesn't speak much English. However I manage to speak enough French to communicate effectively. The owner was very helpful, putting champagne in the fridge for us to chill, providing a corkscrew for wine, opening and cleaning the pool and suggested we visit a nearby international garden festival - which was fantastic and a highlight of our trip! The owner was so helpful in fact that I gave him a miniature bottle of rare Scottish whisky I had with me as a thank you. Breakfast each morning was really good. Excellent coffee, orange juice, croissants, bread, toast, butters, jams and yoghurt. The location is perfect for the Loire Valley, if you're looking for a very quiet place to stay. It is possible to walk to nearby Chenonceaux and Chisseau, but for anywhere else the car is necessary. Wine cave also within walking distance. WiFi is available. Only negative I would mention is reference is made online to the place offering meals and wine tasting. This is not actually available, it seems something that used to be available but isn't now. I should also mention you cannot eat or drink in your room, due to risk of staining expensive furniture. However the owner does make the conservatory and gardens available for guest use. Overall a fantastic place and I definitely recommend - we would definitely return! Merci beaucoup!!!

Large luxurious room with 4 poster bed which was king size plus, large bathroom off bedroom. Only drawback I would mention is that the towels were lacking that touch of luxury to go with all the rest. Would definitely visit again. Proprietor spoke little English but accommodated all of our needs including refrigerating our own supply of milk.
