My family and I came here on vacation after a 3-hour boat ride from Viti Levu, the biggest island in Fiji. Barefoot Manta is one of many resorts that dot the islands in the Yasawa island chains in Fiji. There are islands south and north of this island and I do not have experience with any of the other resorts... More

Barefoot is a nicely designed and relaxed ‘resort’ with three beaches and a well-equipped diving centre. Staff is very nice and accommodating and the resort seems to be run by Australians who hire Fijians from nearby islands and then train then into the hospitality business. Since the beaches are made up of dead corals, the ocean is generally only accessible... More

The facilities are basic but ok. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. The three beaches are the selling point. You can walk from one to another in less than a minute. So far, my favourite island in Fiji. Wifi unreliable. The food is good. Drinking water available

Beautiful island with two lovely beaches, one perfect for watching the sunrise, the other the sunset. Incredible coral sits just a couple of metres off the coast, which we snorkelled around at our leisure. The island (like many in the yasawas) required you to sign on for the meal plan, which was pricey, but delicious (including the veggie options according... More

I stayed at Barefoot Manta for 4 nights, and each was more amazing than the previous one. The weather was great. The staff consisted of some of the most genuinely caring and lovely people I have ever met. They were always happy to chat, and very helpful. The meals provided were consistently delicious and fresh. The bathrooms were more camper... More

I loved the Dive Center, the loveliness and openness of the staff, the tireless manager, Swimming with the Mantas and the lovely island with the three beaches and a beautiful coral reef on sunrise beach. The weather was excellent and it was generally lovely.

we went to visit Barefoot in late April and the weather was perfect! We stayed in a suite which was lovely. It was like sleeping outside but protected by the tent screens. We had or own shower and nice bed. The staff here is so nice and seem to be so happy. Swimming with the mantas is a must do,... More

Barefoot Manta is an island that has it all for people that enjoy a relax atmosphere. Warm and friendly staff that make your stay even more memorable. My best dive was the Garden of Eden and not forget about swimming with the Mantaray. Thanks to all

First the good: -The dive shop staff are amazing, and they're definitely the stars of the resort. Without them, the stay would have been one star less. Heather, Sami and Bio are extremely friendly and such amazing people. Bio especially is so talented and what a great entertainer. -It is just right next to the natural feeding channel of the... Manta season is well underway - May to October each year, and this resort is in the prime location (right next to the Manta ray channel) to see them. I spent two nights at Barefoot Manta resort - diving and snorkeling off the calm waters in the resort. I didn't even have time to partake of the hikes on the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Going Barefoot" is about the feeling of freedom and living in harmony with our environment. We don't refer to our island as a "resort". Our eco-lodges are about living simply and sustainably. Rather than a tourist destination run by technology, Barefoot is a concept fuelled by feeling. Our island is deliberately uncomplicated, unfussy and unpretentious. For both guests and staff, the sensational natural environment - land, sea and air - brings about a special frame of mind - carefree, receptive and aware. Barefoot Island, known traditionally as Drawaqa Island, lies in the Southern Yasawa Islands of Fiji. The breath-taking coral gardens, situated just off the coastline are amongst the finest in the world. We offer visitors a tranquil environment, with the gentle sound of the waves lapping the shore. Our eco-lodge is the perfect destination for nature lovers in search of a one of the few Fijian islands unspoiled by man. Guests can expect unparalleled manta ray safaris in one of the best locations for dive enthusiasts: spectacular snorkelling and excursions, beautiful coastal and forest trails, visits to nearby Fijian villages, kayaking...the list is endless. Step onto our island and lose yourself in the world of Blue Lagoon and Castaway. Allow yourself to settle into "Fiji Time," and you'll come to discover a virtual treasure trove of things to explore - both on land and in the surrounding waters. ... more   less
