San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Even though it's not a short quick drive from San Juan del Sur, it is most definitely worth it! This beach boasts beautiful white sand, and Costa Rican landscape for scenery. The added bonus is that because it is just that little bit further out of town the beach is hardly ever crowded!

Playa El Coco is a long, beautiful, pristine beach. The waves are great for boogie boarding and beginner surfers. We stayed in Casa Gerardo, which is 20m from the sea. The house had a functional kitchen which was great. The two bedrooms both had hyper-active, very noisy air conditioning... The units need to be replaced, they probably consume loads of...

Very beautiful location and calm beach. Hotel Staff was very helpful.Restaurant staff not so helpful or friendly. I liked that our room had separate toilet with sick and from shower. My only two concerns was a shower head that splashed water everywhere and the ant problem. But room was very nice and clean.

The rooms are bungalows with kitchenette: fridge, stove, microwave. Must carry your own food from town. The biggest concern, someone(s) broke into our room while we were asleep. They stole our valuables. According to the police, a condo down the beach had the same problem 3 months earlier. This place more security at night.

Dear Frank: Thanks for your review about Parque Maritimo el Coco and the details of Apartment Los Cangrejos. I regret that you were stolen at night. The Police is already making the investigations. We have also increase the security personal at the resort. It was our first time since we start operations. Give my regards to your father. Thanks, Rodolfo

Terrible service, ridiculous pirices. Just bring your own cooler and barbeque if you plan on coming for the day. Seriously non - existant service. I really dont see the point of hiring employees if you're not going to train them.

We didn't stay here but the bar/restaurant as part of the hotel complex is a great place to spend the day. Gorgeous views across the bay, good food especially the fish (a little pricey tho) and a lovely swimming pool. The road from San Juan is pretty good so you can get there in about 20 minutes driving from the...

We had a beachhouse. While making the reservation the clerk told us prices were up because of the highseason. When we arrived we noticed the place was deserted! The Beachhouse and beach were perfect. Because of the low number of guests it was kind of spooky... The restaurant was ok and has fair prices. It closes early, about 9 pm......

This is a great place to spend a few days while visiting San Juan Del Sur. It is a bit out of town on a dirt road, but well worth the drive. The property has an on site store with small items and a restaurant down at the beach for meals. It was a short walk from our bungalow to...

We had the blue casa with a fully equipped kitchen, a/c, swimming pool and a porch with tables and chairs. The place was in good condition and about two hundred feet to playa coco and a big palapa for our use. The beach was great and never too many people.I would stay there again.

With some locals friends, we came to this place for a few days rest and beach time. Very nice beach, very correct housing. On the other side, the lady at the reception and the service at the restaurant (a guy called Jose Victor) were really unfriendly. Not even a smile and very dry to guests. During our trip to Nicaragua,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 18 kilometers south of San Juan del Sur is situated Parque Maritimo el Coco, a resort specially conceived to allow our visitors to relax in a peaceful environment, in direct contact with nature. The resort - of category III - offers lodging in houses of different design). A characteristic of this resort consists in its location in plain nature, where since 1994 have ben constructed houses under the roof oft trees. The resort's administration wants to conserve these natural surroundings, which offer the suited hiding places for many wild animals like squirrels, skunks, iguanas, garrobos, etc. During October and November herds of hauler monkeys visit the resort, attracted by the fruits of jobos. You can watch birds like urracas, colibris, woodpeckers, small parrots and many others because we respect nature's biological rhythmus. The growing of the trees during the rainy season is part of this rhythmus, the falling of there dry leafs and branches is part of the rhythmus, too. These branches y leafs are not garbage, but important natural dung. Furthermore they help to keep humid the soil retaining the water, the main source of life, in the ground. We invite our guests to immerse into nature witch surrounds the hotel, to enjoy healthy vacations in harmony with the environment. The extended grounds, that surround each house, are another characteristic of this resort. They guarantee privacy y extensive playground so that parents can supervise children easily. It is the perfect spot for couples or whole families, because our beach allows a safe and enjoying swim. We offer different lodging options, from small bungalows to large houses: - Apartments located directly on the coast, which invite you to take an early morning swim or to jog on the 1 km long, sandy beach - Bungalows on a gently hill at about 200 m from the seashore with a terrace in the middle of treetops, a place perfectly suited to watch birds - Houses on top of hills with outstanding sea view, about 100 to 200 m from the shore. All lodgings are equipped with fully furnished kitchens. In the Mini Super, at the entrance of the resort, you will find all you need to prepare a good meal. To allow the kook to enjoy vacations too, you can visit the nearby restaurant "Puesta del Sol", right on the shore. While parents savor a sundowner looking in astonishment at the spectacular sunset, less contemplative youngsters might enjoy plying beach ball, frisbee, volleyball, table soccer, billiard or dive into the pool. Excursions: We recommend visiting by horse or bicycle the nearby villages. On the way you might encounter hordes of howler monkeys, and other sylvatic animals. Very friendly and poor agricultural workers will be happy to invite you to participate on their cultural activities like worships. At night you can visit "Playa la Flor", a sanctuary for endangered marine turtles. On nesting periods of the marine turtle "Paslama" (Lepidochelys oliveacea) you can observe up to 20,000 turtles on a period of four days. During the day you can take a boat tour nearby, where marine turtles can be seen mating. With a bit of luck you can see dolphins or even whales on some periods of the year. Another tour you can take is to "Bolanos" island on the boundaries of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, a sanctuary for frigate birds (Fregata magnificens) and other marine birds like pelicans. You can climb to the nesting sites and observe the brooding of different kinds of birds. ... more   less
