Quiet place, clean, extremely pleasant for a family stay.
The house is imposing, records the history of the time but is renovated with all the comfort and refinement.
Mr. Martinho is of an extraordinary sympathy and availability. He received us in a unique way, where we did not miss a toast to our wedding anniversary with an excellent Douro muscatel.
It was a very nice day that remained in the memory of our family!
All right!

If you want to see and feel the "real" Portugal, stay here. This is a small home in a tiny burg of about 300 people. The streets are cobblestone and the homes are made of stone. The road thru town is the width of a wagon, and there's one place in town that served us magnificent (and generous portions) of Portuguese cuisine -- $25 for 2 with wine and dessert. Amazing. The casa is owned by a loving host family. Antonio, the the owner, took care of our entire stay in the Douro -- arranging a boat trip, port tasting and providing insider expertise on where to go (or not go). He is incredibly friendly and helpful despite limited English (thank heavens for Google translate!). It's about 20 minutes or so from Pinhao on the windy road that provides spectacular views. The landscape around the town is spectacular -- vineyards and olives as far as the eye can see. There are two relatively flat hiking trails that go thru town, including a 4 KM circular route. The photos in the autumn look amazing. The rooms are simple but nice; we had the big one with large bathroom on the first floor that had its own porch. Lovely linens and super clean. WiFi provided. This was the highlight of our 2 week trip of Portugal and we recommend it highly!

Thank you very much for your review of our house. Also to the restaurant Taberna a Fonte. We always seek to provide our guests with the best conditions to get to know a little of the Douro Valley - UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can believe that we also really like having him in our house. Thanks for understanding my somewhat rusty English. António Martinho

Stayed here with some biker friends of mine x8, Antonio the owner is such a lovely guy very informative. The place is a bit rural but it's very very much more than a one star. Rooms are lovely modern very clean. Beds were very comfy my room had a jacuzzi bath which was very welcome after a long day's ride. Breakfast was fantastic

Santa Eugenia is a slightly remote, small (330 pop) granite village with roads that are barely navigable in places due to the uneven stone outcrops: -the sort of place where you'll see more dogs than people and they each might open one eye in recognition of your arrival. However suds in the village square wash station suggest recent human use! Only the overhead electricity cables give a clue to which century one is in!
Once through the gate to C da T and one is in a different world!. -a modern well equipped house and ensuite bedroom which would cost 2 or 3 X as much in a city. Other reviews refer to the host's outstanding hospitality so I'll not repeat that. Like another we were walked to the village cafe/bar/restaurant where we had an excellent meal (see separate review.).
Unbelievable value and if we were to tour Northern Portugal again (we're both in our 76th year so running out of time!) this would definitely be on the itinerary!

+1
Casa da Trigueira is the perfect place to experience authentic local hospitality and enjoy the best of the Douro valley. At this small (7 rooms) B&B you feel welcome as a family member, the hosts - António and his wife - were born in the tiny village of Santa Eugenia and know the place and all the region inside and out, in fact Antonio was once in charge of the regional tourist board, so he's the best guide one can find. The house has all the comfort you need, a lovely terrace, a snooker room for winter evenings, and, if you're into farming, you're welcome to give a hand in the kitchen garden and pick your own vegetables or cherries. Breakfast is delicious with local bread, home made jams and, in June/July cherries. António organized for us a trip to Pinhao, a boat trip on the Douro river, and a tour of the Sandeman Port wine vineyards, plus giving us all the tips to sightseeing in the area (Favaios, where the Moscatel wine is produced, the Douro Museum, etc) and the places to hike along the Tua river (and a complementary picnic was provided for our hike). This is B&B has also been awarded a Green Key Award for its environmental good practices.
The reccommended restaurant in the village must also be mentioned: Taberna da Fonte, owned and run by the super-efficient Marisa, has a good choice of local delicacies (bacalhau, posta) at incredible prices! There is so much to enjoy and discover in this area and staying at a place like this sure makes the difference!

We spent two nights here about 10 days ago. It was an absolute highlight of our 12 days in Portugal. If you are looking for a real local B&B/village experience, with all the comforts you need, this is it. Antonio, a former teacher and member of the Portuguese parliament, moved back to where his wife grew up, a village where her family has been for five generations. They added five or six beautiful, very comfortable rooms. They welcome you in the evening with port or wine, with cheese. The provide a very nice breakfast. You sit in their living room. Antonio speaks limited English (he loves his dictionary, which we jokingly referred to as his App) and his wife speaks none, but somehow we managed. The village is charming, very small (300 people), and very much a throwback in time. There is one restaurant. Antonio walks you down and introduces you and makes sure you understand the menu. By the second night, we were regulars. Great, basic local dinner for two for 16 Euros. Locals came up to see if they could be helpful. Antonio will map out a tour for you to drive. Most people just drive along the Douro River, which is beautiful. But we drove up into some villages a little north of the river. Terrific. Went to the Wine and Bread museum in a nearby village where Muscatel comes from Great. Got to love a museum that finishes the visit with wine tasting. All in all, this is a terrific experience. Highly recommended.
