My husband and I were traveling all over Iceland, so this was a nice comfortable hotel in a perfect spot to break up our trip. The hotel and sourrounding area is much prettier in real life than you see from these pictures. The room was HUGE, and spotless, beds very comfy. It was also quiet, I worried when a tour bus load of people pulled up, but didnt hear a peep from the hall or any other rooms. I got the feeling they were having a staffing issue, but people there were absolutely friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast next morning hit the spot! All in a ll a nice stay!

Room Tip: our room was in the 2nd building, and annex to the main, not sure if that's why it was so...

Hotel Laugarbakki is a comfortable place to spend a night or two. Rooms are Icelandic standard with a double bed, desk, TV, WiFi, hot water pot, and bathroom. Great location for Northern Lights watching as one can just go outside the hotel and walk around for 360 degree views. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent – mushroom soup, char, chocolate cake. Breakfast at the restaurant was Icelandic standard with a cold continental breakfast + some hot porridge. One minor item is that while there are plenty of electric sockets in the room, they are not near the desk. So charging laptop, iPhone, and even using the hot water pot needs to be done elsewhere.

Hotel Laugarbakki is situated in Miðfirði Vestur- Húnavatnssýsla half the way between Reykjavik and Akureyri and is a great hotel to stay at if you want to take time to explore different places as in Borgarfjörður, Snæfellsnes og if you are or have been exploring the westfjords. Earlier this summer I was fooloish not to have stayed there on my way from Patreksfjörður to Akureyri as the drive became too long and the hours to many in a car.
Well about the hotel, it is in 2 buildings so one has to go outside and walk a short distance for dinner and breakfast and I can imagine on cold wintery days it can be a somewhat challenge for many esp those whom are elderly. The room differ in size but are lovely and comfy, there are rooms that four can share family or friends could easily share. The reason for this is that these buildings were designed as school, only around 5 years or so it was completely rebuild so to speak and made into this lovely hotel.
They offer a nice menu for dinner and good selection of vines, we had diner and were extremely pleased with our 3 course meal.
Breakfast is OK most would get what they need for startiga new day on the road, but what I missed was wider selection of fruits, but beig able to bake one own waffle made up for the lack of fruit.
The only minus was that the showerstall had not been cleaned well enough from previous guests this I mentioned to the receptionist when I checked out and were they sad to hear this but glad to for me telling them.
They offer bathrobes for their guests as they offer hot-tubs free of charge for their guests, and I can well imagine sitting in on on an cold eveving with clear skies stars above ones head and even dancing Auroras boralis in the sky,the tubs are open for use until 23pm.
Over all the hotel is a wonderful haven on ones travel around Iceland I can fully recommend it.

The hotel looks like an army Barack from outside. Inside, it is more shiny, and the rooms are nice and very fresh. It is totally refurbished inside. The check in was quick. The restaurant is like many other Icelandic restaurants outside the cities: all waiters are Eastern European with a strange attitude to service. Meaning no service. We tried their soups for starter. They were ok. They bragged about their special lamb burger which was bad. It tasted sheep in the sheep House, was cold, and the fries was like made 30 mins before served. The ketchup had dried up like it had been poured into the small cup 2 days ago. During covid 19 Iceland will struggle with tourism. To pay attention to the food is a good thing. Nordic travellers are picky when We spend a lot of money in Iceland. This restaurant should really start looking into quality of food and try to add a little bit of charm to the service. The restaurant brings down the whole hotel impression. The breakfast was good, with a large variety of things to choose among.

From the outside this is a very unattractive building in plain surroundings.
Inside, things are somewhat better. Rooms are large, clean and well-appointed, but have a rather stark and soulless design.
Dinner in the restaurant suffers from unskilled/untrained and uncoordinated service. There were delays and mistakes. The food quality is satisfactory although the menu is unexciting and value for money is poor.

The room was more spacious and modern than other places we stayed in Iceland with a desk and coffee maker. Nice comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was very good and had just about everything you could want, decent strong coffee and fresh bread. Fruits, vegetables, cereals, skyr, and hot/cooked food as well.
Hotel had several outside hot tubs.

I would certainly stay again and recommend to anyone.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel grounds! Spacious rooms -and not just by Iceland standards-(we were upgraded to a room with four beds!) extremely clean, separate area for toilet & shower (weak water pressure, but oh well) amenities included sample sizes of shower gel, shampoo & conditioner (not standard at other hotels here). Plush bathrobe to use and open air jacuzzi’s for guests. Very comfortable beds & bedding. Friendly staff, delicious food. I highly recommend this gem in the middle of nowhere in one of the most beautiful countries ever!

Visited for 3 nights with my family of four ( 2 children) . We had a really spacious room with good beds and a large bathroom (family room), good shower and everything very clean. Nice hot tubs for the guests. The food is good and reasonably priced. Both breakfast and dinner lived up to our expectations. Menumis small but they execute it well. The staff was friendly and helpful. The kids could play football outside the hotel and there is a short drive from the hotel to the swimming pool at Hvammstangi.
Nice to buy local strawberries from the farmer next to the hotel. In the vicinity you can find gems like Kolugljúfur (canyon amd waterfall), which came as a pleasant surprise.
Lots of horse rentals nearby, a little woodland by Barkarstaðir to walk around and Hvítserkur not far away.

Just off Route 1, so a very convenient place for an overnight stay. Friendly reception and pleasant bedroom. Staff were rather overwhelmed with a coachful of guests, especially at breakfast. Dinner was splendid - especially the Icelandic specialities - and we enjoyed the hot tubs on a gloomy afternoon.

A smart hotel in the middle of pleasant agricultural countryside, away from any town. Free use of accessible hot tubs and our junior suite came with complementary drinks and snacks. It also had separate TVs in the 2 compartments, useful when one person wants to view and the other wants to read or sleep! Evening meal was good, but there was no cooked breakfast.
