We stayed here for 2 nights , arriving overland from Lethem, the journey taking about 4hrs or more- maybe could have been a little quicker but we stopped several times to look at birds. . Wichabai Ranch is very isolated & situated in an unspolied landscape. Justin & Erin made us very welcome at their newly built house, a magnificent wooden structure with balconies commanding far reaching views . In one direction one can see the chain of the Kanuku mountains. . At the house we were fed magnificently. Our accommodation was in the 2 newly built guest lodges which are situated a good 800 metres away near a lake. The lodges are extremely comfortable , wooden structures on stilts with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, en suite bathrooms & facilities for recharging your small camera/ laptop batteries ( not that there is any internet ) . It was wonderful to sleep at night in total seclusion with the windows wide open & only the sounds of nature to be heard. . We visited primarily for Bird watching & enjoyed a long day doing that, including visiting the nearby Dadanawa Ranch. Driving back at night the air was full of flying insects, nightjars & a burrowing owl & a grey fox. . Many little touches in our rooms that enhanced our visit Thoroughly recommend spending time here.…
Visited last week with my son. Justin and Erin and their crew were the perfect hosts for this secluded, totally unspoiled and stunningly beautiful part of the planet. The guest house is brand new, built from local woods, with a family of wrens to wake us up in the morning. Not far from the main house where we enjoyed delicious meals and great company. We toured the "estate" with its own airstrip and beautiful lake, surrounded by birds of every description. Saw the rare red siskins and many others on a tour of the forested area, while we prepared for a river trip on the Rupununi River, through the beautiful Kanuku mountains. Went to a local Amerindian event and on the way saw a giant ant eater. Truly out of this world. Our only other traveller was an author writing his second book on the Amazon..…
Our time at Wichabai Ranch was absolutely fantastic! Erin and Justin are the perfect people you would want to meet and stay with on holiday, they have amazing knowledge of the country, the Rupinini and the local area. Our days were very enjoyable and adventurous, spending time doing trekking, rowing, swimming, cassava bread making, fishing on the local river and horse-riding. Erin and Justin were the perfect hosts, every evening was spent laughing and joking, they have some fantastic stories! The food was also delicious and the house was beautiful. Thank you for everything!
Whilst on a three week birding trip to Guyana, myself and a friend stayed a couple of nights at Wichabai. Erin & Justin looked after us very well. The ranch is set in lovely surroundings. The rooms and facilities fitted our needs perfectly. The food was excellent (particularly the curry). Good birding around the ranch and in the immediate vicinity -including seeing red siskins very well. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in the south rupununi I can thoroughly recommend Wichabi ranch.
Great atmosphere, fantastic local food, jungle walks, horseback riding, swimming in the river, lasso and very friendly people. Great place for the kids as well. Fantastic to be in the middle of nowhere and to experience Guyanas fantastic nature.
