Many Positives: Beautiful, tranquil setting. Spacious, comfortable garden room with private patio. Exceptional golf course. Enjoyable dinner and breakfast buffets. Friendly, eager-to-please bar and dining room staff and chefs. Lovely massage, facial and light meal at the spa. Very friendly staff. Club house a short stroll away- delicious, well-priced food and lovely ambiance at night- patio, tall trees, twinkling lights. Ideal location from which to explore Pennington. Load shedding not an issue. Generator kept everything working smoothly. Some Not-So-Positives: We were not sent an access code before we arrived so had to phone reception from the gate and then wait for them to send a code. Laborious and time-consuming process. Some of the staff not welcoming, helpful or friendly. This is unfair to the staff who are hospitable and pro-active. Air-conditioner made a loud grating noise every hour or so- making it impossible to sleep properly. Reported to maintenance and front desk. Too hot not to have air-conditioner on and ceiling fan speed could not be adjusted to cool the room down. Patio door lock broken- so door could not be locked. Reported to font desk. Large broken/missing tile in bathroom. Coffee machine in room- but pods for only one cup each. Asked for more pods at reception to be told they were out of stock. Asked receptionist to “borrow” some from a vacant room. She said that she had checked and there were none. Strangely, the housekeeping lady also checked in the vacant rooms and did manage to find some. Bits of litter left in the garden beds- there from Friday when we arrived, still there on Monday when we left. All-in-all, we had a lovely stay but the hotel is not nearly as 4 star grand, well-maintained or luxurious as it used to be “back in the day”- when there were beautiful fish in the ponds, a shuttle service to the beach club, immaculate rooms and gardens and a full component of welcoming, enthusiastic staff.…
Stayed for one week in the Presidential Suite of the main hotel. We were visiting different relatives along the coast and this was a good central location for us to be based. Despite some initial difficulties on arrival at the main security gate (we were supposed to have been sent a code but hadn’t). This was eventually resolved but Reception seemed to have an inability to SMS a UK based landline whilst we sat in our car for ages. They just kept asking (via radio to the security gate) for an SA one which we didn’t have. It was a poor first impression. Why weren’t we sent a code? Nobody could answer that question. The hotel was clean and beautifully presented. Grounds staff doing a magnificent job on the golf course and gardens. Staff were generally friendly and helpful but notably some more proactive than others. Our room was cleaned to perfection every day. It was very comfortable and spacious. The swimming pool was large and beautifully located in the grounds, however we had to go to reception to request sunbed lounger cushions or ask for drinks etc. Also noticed that finished drinks and trays were just left lying around for hours or even overnight around the pool. Nor was the pool cleaned of tree debris at any point that we saw. The area just felt unattended and perhaps should be part of a more regular staff check. The restaurant at best was average. We had Sunday lunch with some guests but this was not the fayre of anything purporting to be of a 4* hotel standard. Breakfast was good with a choice of hot and cold items. The most crazy thing was the size of the table cloths on the tables. At least three sizes too big, all the excess material draped onto the floor. I lost count of how many times I almost tripped over the damn things just getting up from a chair and either dragging the cloth with me or getting my feet or chair leg wrapped up in it! Madness. Buy some ones that fit the furniture for goodness sake. When we checked out we weren’t asked if we had enjoyed our stay or if everything had been ok etc. Pretty standard stuff for staff on Reception you’d have thought. Despite the niggles mentioned, the hotel is beautifully set, safe and comfortable. We would stay again due to its location.…
Hotel is neat and cozy. Presidential suite was large, neat and well equipped. Golf course was plush and a joy to play. Food was satisfactory. Kitchen closed at 8.30 pm on Saturday night and we were left with empty stomachs for the rest of the night. Not even a crisp or chocolate at reception... Very frustrating. Golf was the only highlight unfortunately
We spent a night at the hotel to visit family who had rented a villa. The resort was beautiful with winding paths and well established trees and greenery. The pool was exquisite, large and clean with plenty of sun beds. There was a small mix up where First Group arranged a mattress on the floor for my son but the hotel hadn’t set this up on check in at 16.30, well after the 14.00 check in time. But it was resolved swiftly. For dinner we went up to the golf club and the children enjoyed the jungle gyms while we waited, although the wait was extremely long. The orders were in shortly after 5pm for our table of 18 (we went early to mitigate the size of the group) but the food only came out around 7pm. I would recommend in these cases a limited menu or to prepare food in groups for example kids’ meals first. That said the staff were very accommodating and I’m sure the formal buffet at the hotel would have gone smoothly. The golf club was very reasonable, our total bill being less than R4000 for all of us with alcoholic drinks, and the club was lively with locals and golfers who were welcoming and good fun. I would recommend a 1st floor room if you smoke as the private balconies are very comfortable for a sundowner or evening drink when the kids are asleep. Also consider that rooms are in smaller blocks throughout the resort so ask for one near to the reception/restaurant if you have any difficulties walking (elderly/babies etc). I appreciated the large empty fridge in the room to store our milk, water, fruit etc and the ample Wi-Fi throughout the resort. The smart TV with Netflix and YouTube was super. The breakfast was great and we weren’t charged extra for the kids. We certainly left with warm hearts!…
The Good The location, proximity to the beach, the pool and the golf course are all excellent! The room is well furnished but lacking in certain areas (the TV and available channels or lack of. The fan ceiling that when turned on almost spins off the ceiling). The bad (or in this case terrible!). The inability of the staff to look after their guests and their exceptionally bad attitude - 'burying your head' in the sand and hoping the problem will go away is NOT going to solve anything! On two of the days we stayed there, the room was only serviced after 17h00 and one of our rooms not at all. Rubbish was also left outside the room for all four days. There was a shortage of clean towels and the bathrooms weren't restocked (soap, toilet paper etc.) at all during our stay (over four days). I have had better food in boarding school and won't even get into their food/restaurant option or lack there off). Would much rather recommend meeting at the golf course, where the restaurant is pretty good and the staff excellent! By their own admission (by staff), they had staff shortages and were battling to cope! Unfortunately management didn't try to address this or 'fix' anything! This establishment is an absolute embarrassment to other four star hotels!…
Went to Selborne golf clubhouse for early dinner with the kids We ordered a mixed basket - samoosas and springroles terrible My daughter order napolitana pasta and bolognaise was brought to the table My sons ordered margarita pizza and the bread dough base tasted as if it was sour and there was about no tomato base - we took one bite and paid and left This was really a bad experience - sad as the golf course is really good
Wow what a fantastic hotel. Even with these stupid covid restrictions the hotel manages to impress. Firstly my room overlooking the fairway off the golf course is superb very clean Turn down service shower to die for and that beautiful smell love it. I have walked around the whole property and it is spotless and whoever ever you bump Into you always get a warm smile . Food because off covid is less off a choice but what is on the menu very tasty . If your in the area stay here no where else .
Disappointing! Our 4th and probably last visit Restaurant food and menu has deteriorated badly Management really needs to be reviewed Staff are great, however housekeeping needs to be addressed as well! We had to ask for toilet tissue, had no milk on our final morning and only 1 tiny soap for 3 days! We had our meals at half way house where the menu and food were great! Desiree & Mike Walker
We were a group of 10 people on a 3 night golf trip. We had booked through Redsands Golf so I cannot comment on the efficiency and ease of booking. We were collected by Erik in the hotel shuttle at Margate Airport. What a super guy. He advised that the staff at the hotel was down to 30 from 60 and that he, as the Maintenance Manager, was filling in as a driver. He also transferred us to the various golf courses. He made us feel very special and was always very relaxed about the time making sure that we didn’t feel rushed in any way. All the other members of staff from the check in at the front desk were all very pleasant and nothing was ever too much for them. The food was very nice and the Tuesday night buffet was awesome with great service from Moses and Menisha. The breakfast buffet was good with Sipho always making sure we all had enough to eat and Grace and Kevin were super friendly and on the ball making sure our coffee cups were always full. We had a lunch and a dinner at the golf club which was very enjoyable with an extensive menu and excellent service by Derrick. We had booked the entry level rooms which were very basic but always clean. All in all we had an awesome time with some very challenging golf courses.…
On arrival we were taken to our room and discovered it hadn’t been properly cleaned. The bath and basin had a thick film of sand/dust. We were told we can wait while they call the cleaners to come and clean it. We asked if there perhaps wasn’t another room we could have instead. This was arranged. Unfortunately that set the tone. Lack of attention to detail, disappointing dining, no visible management, inattentive staff, no follow up on requests/queries. Poor coffee, poor communication at check in wrt having to book all meals except for breakfast. All above are easily remedied. It would be a shame for the stunning facilities and buildings to not have atmosphere and service and wholesome hospitality. Very disappointing.
