My wife and I came for a 5 day break at the end of a tour of Sri Lanka. We are snorkelers and that was our specific focus during this time The room was close to the dining and bar areas but was not affected by this in any negative way. In fact it was very convenient as the bar staff were always happy to top up an ice bucket for the evening beverage. It was also nicely sheltered on the western side given the wind was generally from the East in our time here. We had a jacuzzi bath which was fun. Food was very good and as we were there only 5 nights the buffet nights and special themes worked well without repeats. Breakfast was excellent and we managed to make ourselves keep lunch fairly light although there was always plenty to tempt us with. As other reviews have commented, the staff are a real strength for Ihuru, from Hussain who kept our room immaculate and tailored the replenishments to the things we actually wanted, the restaurant waiting staff standouts included Salmaan from the folk night as well as Sujena and Adam. Plus all of the bar staff of course! The managers were always about and happy to chat. The snorkeling was varied but always at least good, there is clear evidence of coral regrowth but it does have a way to go whilst in our time there there was a haziness to the water so the deeper water wasn’t really visible down the wall as you swam, probably due to dredging and resort developments in the area rather than on Ihuru itself. The morning swim sound the island was a wonderful start to the day and at 1 km was quite doable even though neither of us qualifies as a spring chicken any longer. We saw the Hawksbill Turtles, Black tip and White tip Sharks and a Black Eagle Ray as well a myriad of the usual suspects on a reef in the area. We did swim at Banyan but found the access points much further from the beach than on Ihuru and were less impressed by their reef. This is a delightful resort that is easy to reach from the airport but away from the busy area near Male. Well managed and the exceptional staff are its strength.

This was our first time in Maldives and my family choosed to spend 12 days at Angasana Ihuru Resort and Spa. We couldn´t have done a better choice. This island is a dream and corresponds with its round shape to the dream of a Maldives island. The welcome was very friendly and after 20 minutes we were already on the island. We stayed at a beach bungalow that was functionally furnished, but with attention to detail and with direct access to the beach (the sea was just one minute away). Peace and quiet is the name of the game. The resort is very beautiful, has great vegetation and is very well maintained. The best thing was the view of the turquoise sea. Beach is very calm and private, given the small size of the resort and the fact that each villa has its own beach area. The staff is warmth, professional, with a really attentive service. Wifi speed was reliable and fast and you can count with twice a day housekeeping. We found the food to be very tasty. The house reef is excellent and easy to reach, with the most amazing sea life: We saw Rays, sharks, turtles, clown fish amongst many when we snorkeled. This island is a gem when it comes to marine life; some of the best snorkeling I've ever had worldwide. Dining is also great A tiny island which felt like your own private island in Maldivas.

The island is eco-conscious and trying their best to maintain a healthy ecosystem. The staffs are very professional and friendly- we have allergies to scented laundry detergent and they got soda crystals (as we requested) to launder our sheets and towels separately. Our house keeper Khaleel kept our place very nicely clean and tidy too (our clothes were folded and put away). Overall a very enjoyable stay and will be back again!

I had been wanting to visit Ihuru for many years and we finally got to experience it at the end of our longer Maldives trip this year for one night. We have been to the Maldives 10 times previously and have stayed at many resorts. (including one that we now have as our regular " go to"). The positives were the customer service and the distance from Male airport making it quick and easy to get to. I was surprised at this price point however that there were quite a few negatives. I felt like this was a solid 3 star resort, however it was priced at $1350 AUD for 1 night and I had to search high and low to get it that "cheap". The food was ok to average. Service at meal times was very good. I cannot fault the service. The underwater murals that were painted in common areas (around base of bar and in the "nest" room) looked a bit daggy...I think it looks much smarter to let the locations beauty speak for itself and just use subtle decor in the hardscapes. The rooms were large enough, however completely dated, and full of annoying quirks such as taps that turned the wrong direction in the bathroom, two hand basins on different levels with a channel cut out, a ridiculous shower nozzle made from a bamboo faucet that felt like having a hose gushing on you. A weird trampoline like "lounge thing: that was under a misting system in bathroom. Completely useless other than to pop your clothes on to dry ! The snorkeling was our main reason to come to Ihuru for the great house reef. We found the condition of the reef better in parts than other resorts and saw several large sharks and a few turtles. The sea was very choppy the 2 days we spent there, which is unusual for March and there were some strong currents. It was interesting that there were no life rings at the entry points to the reef, just a sign sticking up out of the water, i think the resort should consider putting some out there as there is a 650 meter distance between 2 of the exit points and if there is a strong current it can be quite tiring. Note: We also took the ferry over to their sister property the Banyan tree. Its a 5 mins boat ride. The Banyan Tree was a larger island and we'd gone over to use the pool. However pool access and the nice bar area was barred to all except the participants of a large conference that was happening on the island. So we sat around for 2 hours waiting to get the ferry back....and having to listen to the conference delegation doing their workshops...felt like being at work !!! The villas on this island need an exterior makeover, they are quite unattractive with aluminum cladding and not very aesthetically pleasing. We still were glad we came to finally visit Ihuru. All the staff were friendly and we still had an ok visit...it is the Maldives after all !

We went to Dhawa Ihuru in March 2024 for 14 nights with the Dine All Inclusive option. Here’s a review of our findings. The Agent we used We used Simply Maldives, they were competitive price wise, were on the ball from the day of booking to day of departure. They were available should we have had any problems whilst away, thankfully everything went smoothly and as planned. Special mention to Amit who went above and beyond with any questions we had. From our experience, I can highly recommend booking with them. Dhawa Ihuru The Resort - no complaints, nothing but praise, we had an excellent holiday: 1. From our experience, the staff on Ihuru without exception provide excellent service, are genuinely friendly and want to make your stay as pleasurable and as comfortable as possible. Samaad, the Manager makes himself available, goes out of his way to speak to guests to make sure their stay is as good and as comfortable as possible and spends time chatting and answering any questions 2. Very special mention for the restaurant staff - I have some special dietary requirements, which if not followed would have completely ruined my holiday. All the staff had been made aware of my needs prior to our arrival and without exception, all looked after me, all had a smile. Thank you to David, Head Chef, who ensured everything went smoothly from the start. Huge thanks to Asita, Sujina, Adam, Samaan and Maaniu for your excellent service, with a very special mention and thank you to Nipun the chef who looked after all my dietary needs and meals every day and made sure I had excellent food throughout my stay at every meal time. Without this, my stay would have fallen apart! I had zero problems and can only praise all restaurant staff; the rest of our family who don’t have such dietary requirements were happy with the choice and quality of all the meals 3. Ihuru are keeping the island as close to the typically Maldivian style as possible - meaning no water bungalows, it’s as close to a natural Maldivian island as you’re likely to get; the beach rooms are comfortable, nicely set back from the beach, are private with vegetation around them including palms, have a lovely view of the Indian Ocean. They have their own sun loungers, Maldivian Swing, sun bed and patio set on the deck with an umbrella. We found the resort as we’d hoped, quiet and relaxing. There is some evening entertainment occasionally in the form of music in the bar area. The restaurant and bar area are well situated either side of the jetty. We saw passing dolphin just off the drop off from the restaurant on 4 or 5 occasions. There’s no pool, but really, why do you need a pool when you have such a lovely lagoon in the Indian Ocean. There is a pool on the sister island should that be a necessity, or you can book a room with a jet pool? 4. The resort did everything they could to provide us with the room we requested. The room was excellent, comfortable, spacious, clean, very comfortable bed, quiet and efficient air con, mini bar regularly restocked, good bathroom and shower facilities and excellent daily room care - we had zero concerns or problems and we were well looked after - thank you to Vinnesh!! Sorry if I’ve not got the correct spelling!! 5. The resort have a Marine lab, led by Marine Biologist Nick, with 2 full time colleagues, Hood and Henry; they care deeply about the reef, will spend as much time with you as you want, talking marine life, marine species, conservation - they are all knowledgeable, friendly and won’t fob you off with any old answer to a question, if they don’t know, they’ll find out and come back to you with a proper answer. Thanks to all of you for your time and the conversations we had 6. Free boat ferry to sister island Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru running every 2 hours or so daily 7. Maybe not often mentioned, but important if you need it; the resort has a resident doctor available 24x7 if needed. Unfortunately I had a reoccurrence of an ear problem - Dr Azad was able to help me at short notice 8. The guests. Maybe a bit odd to include here. We spoke to lots of guests, many were regular and repeat visitors, everyone we spoke to were easy to get along with, they all seem like minded, they were there for the snorkelling and/or diving, loved the resort and wanted to return; nobody voiced any dissatisfaction Excursions We were happy spending time snorkelling on the House Reef as much as we could and spending time in the resort, so only managed one excursion. The Dolphin Cruise. Whilst a bit pricey at around £80/person, there is a max of 10 people on a Dolphin spotting trip, there’s plenty of room on the large dive boat used, so if you’re lucky enough to find dolphins, there’s plenty of space for everyone to have good sightings and move around the boat. The crew were all friendly, helpful and as you’d hope, were expert in dolphin spotting! We were fortunate to have good spotting conditions, the sea was relatively calm and yes we saw some bottle nose dolphins and a large pod of spinner dolphins around the boat for some time. We had an excellent experience and I think the resort positions this excursion well. I’d rather pay a bit more and have space to walk round the boat without tripping over people. Ihuru House Reef and the beaches The main reason we went, we have a deep interest in coral reef ecosystems but for this holiday we just wanted to snorkel on a good house reef. The house reef was far better than we’d expected. To put that in perspective, the whole of the Maldives (as many other nations) have experienced so many El Niño events over the last 30 years or so (plus the 2004 Tsunami that hit the Maldives), because of this we shouldn’t expect pristine reefs. For example, in 2016/17, some of the islands had 80% of their corals bleach and die. Given this, the Ihuru House Reef we saw in March 2024 was making a good recovery though the 3D structure needed for maximum biodiversity (and island protection from erosion) hasn’t yet returned. Remnants of reef old structures can be found in parts of the house reef and there were good examples of thriving corals; Acorpora (Staghorn, Table, Branching, and Digitate morphologies), Pocillopora (Lace and Lettuce morphs), Isopora (branching), Porites (massive/boulder and finger morphs), Montipora (leafy), Heliopora (Blue Coral), numerous Brain corals with a couple examples of the rarer Seriatopora (Birds Nest Coral). We did spend time looking around the shallows as well as the inner reef and drop off. You don’t have to be on the drop off to see some nice corals or a good variety of fish species. There are lots of nice species in the shallows, so the snorkelling is easy enough for everyone of different abilities. Both me and my wife even spotted mature Regal Angelfish in the shallows on separate occasions for example. Access to the reef is easy, in parts you can have sight of corals within just a few metres of the shore. There are also clearly marked passages to the outer reef and drop off so that when the tide is low, you can avoid swimming over and damaging the corals. Repeat guests we met were reporting reduced fish numbers, to be honest, what more could you expect given how coral reefs around the world are suffering. That said, we still saw so many species on the House Reef, to name a few - Porcupine Rays, Green Turtles, Moray Eels, 3 species of shark (Blacktips, Whitetips, Tawny Nurse), 3 species of Clownfish (Maldivian/Blackfoot, Clarkii, Sebae), 12 species of Butterflyfish (it’s easier to say we sadly didn’t see Racoon Butterflies), 3 species of Angelfish (Emporer, Regal, Many Spined Dwarf), 6 species of triggerfish, 2 species of batfish, numerous species of Surgeonfish, Tangs, Bannerfish, Damselfish, Soldierfish, Squirrelfish, Wrasse, Gobies, Needlefish, loads of Moorish Idols, a few Pufferfish, Porcupinefish, some Groupers, Hawkfish, Snappers, Fusiliers, Blue Fin Trevallies, Lizardfish and Lionfish. Sadly, we didn’t see any Boxfish, Anthias/Basslets, Filefish or Octopus but obviously it doesn’t mean they’re not there. Corals thrive in temperatures 23-29C. In March 2024, sea surface temperatures were 30C, with another El Niño event forecast for 2024. Let’s just hope it’s not another severe El Niño year! We didn’t find currents troublesome, but we did assess the tides and tended to snorkel in the direction of the slight currents and used these to take our time and drift around the island when on the drop off. There is island erosion around Ihuru that the resort are only able manage in the short-medium term by the use of sandbags around the island and some occasional use of sand pumps, in my mind these are better options than building walls. The Marine Lab have been encouraging coral regrowth in key areas such as those found around the jetty, this is work in progress. It has to be noted that such erosion is not just a problem for Ihuru, the majority of Maldivian islands and other such resorts around the world have to manage the same problems in similar ways. We did see some occasional plastic in the water, practically nothing in the first week but more in the second week. Though frustrating, it wasn’t obtrusive. Most guests remove any plastic they see. Other things to consider If wanting to request a room prior to arrival. It’s important to remember that the beaches change depending on season. In March when we were there, we wanted a sunset/west coast room. Due to the monsoons, west may be better for the beach as the winds come in from the east. But it means generally there will be little breeze so when temperatures hit 32/33C, it’s hot, very hot. The same would be true in the opposite monsoon when the winds generally come in from the west. Just something to think about. The resort is a family resort. We found the people staying during our holiday were considerate and we weren’t troubled by noise. Things to be aware of - outside the control of the resort, there’s a lot of work going on in the North Male Atoll including the creation of new islands. It’s very evident when you fly into Male. In 2023, this led to a fair amount of dredging in the area. We’ve been led to believe this is complete in terms of new island creation/stabilisation in the area. So right now you can see some island creation on the horizon which is not ideal, but over time the views should improve. We didn’t experience any of the sedimentation viz issues that had been previously reported. If this is of concern to you, it’s important you do your own research as we did. We researched over 60 Maldivian islands but still chose Ihuru and haven’t regretted it one bit! Some things for the resort to consider? We’ve only thought of these since we returned. 1. Post tide times daily, let guests know when tides are running, their strength, when slack tide is so people less confident in the water understand easier times to snorkel 2. I think it would help to provide some written information to guests on coral reef ecology, what coral is, why corals are important, how to avoid damaging corals. This could supplement the Fish Species Charts and Rules of the Reef posters at the Marine Centre and in addition to the regular Marine Talks Summary In summary, from our experience there just aren’t any real downsides to the resort itself, the staff and the reef (in its current condition). There’s so much around the world to see, we don’t often think of going back to the same place, but Ihuru will always vie to be in our shortlist and I’m sure we’ll return, we had such a good time there. Hope these comments help.

Dear Mark (T6846JVmarkh), First of all, we hope that you got home safely. We're thrilled you loved your stay at Dhawa Ihuru Maldives and praised our services and products. We appreciate your 5/5 review for your recent stay. Your comments have been shared with the team, specifically, David, Simaad, Asita, Sujina, Adam, Salmaan, Manniu, Nipun, Vinesh, Nick, Hood, Henry, and Dr. Adjani, who will be thrilled to be recognized cordially. It is heartwarming to know that you also enjoyed the trip to our sister property Banyan Tree Maldives Vabbinfaru. We highly appreciate your understanding about the sand erosion and the reclamation works around our island as it is truly beyond our control. Your points and very detailed narrative of your experience are as many opportunities for us to improve our products and service standards. Again, thank you for taking the time to share with us your amazing experience. We're honored to serve you, and we hope to see you again soon, your family away from home. Sincerely, Hery Kuswoyo General Manager

This little island is a true tropical paradise with lush vegetation, tasty cuisine, and a truly spectacular coral reef just a few steps away from your villa. The staff goes out of their way to see to your every wish, their kindness really adds to the experience. I would mention Elena and Hannah from reception in particular, who were our wonderful hostesses during our stay, but the whole staff was very attentive. I hope to return here one day.

My experience at Dhawa Ihuru Maldives in January 2024 was amazing! The island, the corals, the palm trees, the food, everything! However, what truly set Dhawa Ihuru apart was its incredible staff. They were not just nice or polite; they were extraordinarily kind and pleasant, radiating genuine warmth and happiness at every encounter. Their genuine eagerness to meet and greet guests, as well as their sincere efforts to ensure our happiness, truly made our stay unforgettable! I can't recommend Dhawa Ihuru enough for anyone seeking an extraordinary Maldivian getaway where culinary delights meet unparalleled hospitality. It's a place where every moment is crafted to make you feel not just welcome, but truly happy.
