We spent a couple of nights in here. Fourth floor with a nice view over the bay from the window and the decent balcony. We also booked a day trip to Lan ha bay with them for a good bargain (15$) and it turned out to be super nice. Scooters for rent (4$). The landlord is very helpful and kind....

Stayed here 4 nights inbetween trips to the bay. Rooms are comfortable enough and good value too. Nice views from private balcony, minibar and AC etc. Owner got us on a great trip to the bay, half the time was just 4 of us staying on the boat in 2 separate rooms, other half spent just on our own private...

We had no booking but walked in here as it was where the bus stopped and on the sea front. We stayed 1 night before and after our boat trip on the bay. Our room on both the 3rd & 5th floor were very clean. The view over the bay from rooms 201, 301, 401 etc.. are great. The manager...

We booked Phong Lan as walk in guests, and on first look the rooms seemed large, clean and comfortable, and for 10USD per night seemed like a good bargain. The young guy who sold us the room spoke good English and was pleasant. We were given the large, three-bed room on the top, 9th floor, with a balcony that had...

We went in after being disappointed in a room elsewhere. We were given a spacious balcony room at a very reasonable rate. The mattresses are very firm like a lot of other places. Staff were very helpful.

We stayed here for one night hoping to find a sleepable bed for a budget price. Alas, the beds were like most in budget hotels in Vietnam—too hard (for a sixty-something Westerner, anyway). The view of the bay was beautiful though, and it was relaxing to sit on the balcony and watch the changing colors of the sky and water...

We spent there two nights, the room on the 8th floor is nice and good size, with great bathroom, but the best thing is the view. The jung man working in this hotel was realy helpfull and rented us motobikes and helped to arrange way to Hanoi. We have enjoyed the stay and we can recomend this hotel.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed our time. Our room was huge and included a balcony with beautiful views, air con and a tv. The younger guy that books all the tours is super friendly and helped us with tours and onward travel to Sapa.

We stayed one night here and it was pretty good. We had a balcony room with three beds which was large and clean. The staff are not the friendliest but were fine to deal with. The view of the harbour from the front of the hotel is stunning but the street noise is super loud so there's a tradeoff. Beware...

Cat ba town is pretty loud and busy, so it is not surprising that you can hear street noice even on the 7th floor. But the room had three beds, air conditioning, balcony (photo taken from the balcony), and clean but I wish it had curtains on all the windows. It was fine for a night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Good location, the hotel has private bancony, overlooking Catba harbour, WiFi, refrigerator, telephone, AC and fan. This place is one of the chosen sweeties of a very popular guide book, and it remains a reasonable choice, if only because the owner,Mr David speaks English quite well, and can be very helpful in sorting out tours, and activities while you’re on the island. However, we felt he was resting on his laurels a bit when it came to some minor house-keeping matters. Nothing too serious it’s just that — well…stained linens, even when clean, are always a little disconcerting. And, to be honest. But Tom’s a savvy guy, and he’s probably going to read this, so maybe he’ll do something about it by the time you visit. Recommended by the guide book Lonely Planet and ... more   less
