We visited the Claxton hotel in May 2022 as a family group. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The communal areas and our rooms were newly refurbished with quality carpets and bedding. The hotel was newly decorated to a good standard. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of cereals, cooked breakfast and good coffee. The location by the sea and sea view from our room could not have been better.

Just returned home from this hotel after an overnight stay. After a long journey from the north of Scotland it was nice to get a warm welcome from the staff who gave us our room key. This is an old hotel under renovations? But I must say we didn’t have any problems? We enjoyed an excellent meal at night which was very reasonably priced but far too much to finish? (Lasagne and Chinese chicken curry) which we would definitely recommend? Our room no 8 had an amazing view of the sea which was much appreciated! The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was also amazing and included in the reasonable price for the room. It had everything you could think of and food was delicious and high quality! The waitress was lovely and very helpful and buzzed around clearing plates from tables and filling milk jugs etc. keeping the place spick and span while remaining cheery and greeting people as they came into the room. Well done to all in this lovely hotel and thanks for looking after us it was much appreciated x

We’ve just returned from a two night stay, and we are missing it already. We had two deluxe double rooms, (one with two collies ) and a single room. All three rooms were spotlessly clean, plenty of tea & coffe etc. The beds were so comfortable. We ate in on the Sunday evening, (the dogs are allowed into the very comfortable bar area) the food we had was excellent. Breakfast was cooked fresh, the toaster worked very well for us. The staff, were so friendly and helpful, always had a smile for you and an ear rub for the collies. Keep up the good work. We will be back.

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. I was visiting Redcar for a family reunion and booked into here for two nights. The first night there were hardly any guests yet I was in a room underneath someone else and every time they moved the floor boards creaked so badly it sounded like they were going to come through my ceiling. Nor could I get any hot water to come out of the shower. I complained and was moved to another room for my second night which I was assured was quieter and the shower worked. Yes they did, but the toilet didn't flush, the bedside light didn't work and there was a dirty sock on the floor left behind by a previous guest so the room clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. Breakfast was ok, although the toaster didn't work. The staff were lovely, but that didn't compensate for nothing working properly and, for the price I was paying, it should have been better. To be avoided at all costs.

We had a fantastic two night stay in this hotel. Our deluxe sea view room was perfect for us with our dog. Very comfortable bed, good furnishings and spotlessly clean. Despite the very cold January weather, our room was lovely and warm. Individual heating controls in the room so we could set it to suit us. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food at breakfast and dinner was very good. Together with great sea views and an easy walk to shops & bars etc made this a lovely place to stay. This was our first visit but we will return.

We stayed here for 2 nights to see Redcar and the surrounding area. The hotel location is very good, right on the sea front and positioned at the bottom of the high street. We found parking at the rear of the hotel and left the car there for the duration of our stay. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The heating is electric, which you have to turn on yourself, it is worth remembering to pop back and put it on if you are going out for the evening as it takes a while to warm up. The bed was comfy and we both slept well. The stairs were a bit dicey, there was a small step up onto the landing which I did not notice and stumbled down it. Any change in floor level such as that should be indicated. Our kettle was broken and would only boil if we kept our hand on the switch. I mentioned this the next day at breakfast and a new kettle was put into our room before we had finished our breakfast, so any issues are rectified immediately. There was a good selection of food at breakfast and the service was very good. We did not have an evening meal in the restaurant but we did have a bottle of wine, it was a little chilly in there. The food did look nice and there seemed to be a good choice but we had reservations in other restaurants to celebrate a birthday. If we were coming to Redcar again we would stay in this hotel again.

Small family run hotel, clean, staff friendly cheap beds, bedding and towels left after 2 nights with back ache and neck ache due to cheap poor quality matress and pillows, was offered another room, matress same quality apparently waiting on delivery of new matresses for hotel. Ideal location facing the Beach and walking distance to town centre, pubs and restaurants
