TUI BLUE Kalamota Island garners praise for its idyllic setting with awe-inspiring sea views, although the terrain poses a challenge and some cleanliness concerns are raised. Guests appreciate the pristine state of the rooms and their vistas, yet their size and some upkeep issues draw criticism. The service is generally lauded for its warmth and diligence, despite occasional lapses in speed and housekeeping.
While the ambiance benefits from live entertainment and tranquility, additional seating is desired. The value is debated; extra fees for amenities leave some guests feeling shortchanged. Amenities are well-received but could benefit from extended accessibility and enhancements to the pool and beach areas.

Have just returned from a week at this hotel and before I continue please note that this hotel is a million miles miles away from a TUI Blue venue and the fact that it is sold as such is a gross “ Misrepresentation “ by TUI.
With the exception of the beautiful location no aspect of this hotel comes near to a TUI Blue establishment and experience.
Firstly the food situation would be comical if it were not so serious. Food was never hot, only lukewarm( including soup) . The presentation of hot food was abysmal eg. Roast Lamb and Turkey carcasses were dumped with the meat in their containers, leaving guests having to fork through it to find meat.
Flies were everywhere including dining room window sills which had fly droppings on them. This was reported to the TUI Reps but no action was taken to correct this.
Daily shortages whereby teabags, milk and hot water were virtually a daily issue.
The staff worked very hard but it was evident that the hotel lacked staff and those who were there were totally overwhelmed resulting in heated arguments in restaurant between waiters and supervisors.
The hotel overall is tired looking and requires a major facelift. Housekeeping was a shambles with cleaning and bed making extremely poor. Bedsheets were torn and duvets were too small for the bed. Shower contained black mould around the edges and over the last three days the shower and bathroom floor were not cleaned.
The above is not exhaustive but this and much more shall be subject of a major complaint to TUI for misrepresentation.
The Kalamota Island Tui is nothing more than a bog standard 3 * hotel. I have awarded 3 stars in this case as way of respect to hard working staff.

My overall rating us given solely for the hotel. The holiday overall I would rate as 4 star, we had a really enjoyable break. What is frustrating is that with good management the hotel could be great.
We wanted relaxing chilled break which is what we got. But I really think the hotel is oversold by the tour operator and builds up your expectations, which are then not met.
Transfers to and from the resort are well organised and ran smoothly. Our room wasn't available on arrival, due to the early morning flight. Not a problem as after reading other reviews I was aware this could happen. It was ready shortly after we finished lunch.
Our room was on the top floor of block 5, furthest up the hill. Didn't find this too much of an issue personally. Pleased to have a forward facing room with a glimpse of the sea through two tall trees.Preferred this to some of the rear facing rooms we passed on the way to our block, which faced a brick wall or were overlooked. Our room was kept clean, well serviced and water in the fridge restocked, no issues here for us. The balconies are small and the rooms functional rather than luxurious.
The beach and sunbathing areas were fairly crowded, plenty of shade and you could usually find a bed. I didn't use the pool but the sea was great for swimming.
The bars and restaurant service was severely lacking. Tables left with numerous glasses for hours. I always made a point of returning glasses when ordering another drink or leaving the bar. A distinct lack of staff and those that were there lacked organisation. The communal areas of the hotel are acceptably clean but if you start looking there is a lack of attention to detail and are quite scruffy in some areas.
I personally enjoyed most of my meals, I'm not a fussy eater and always found something to eat which was generally tasty. Agree with other comments about the food not always bring hot or clearly labelled. Maybe an issue for those with food intolerances. Had one meal at Culinarium which was pleasant, but small portions.
As others have said the island is stunning and has some nice walks if you get out and explore. Early ferry to Dubrovnik is well worth doing.
The hotel information leaflet describes the 4 elements bar in great detail with different themed areas and really raises your expectations. The reality is that it's a bar in a shed in a garden area with seating! Perfectly nice to sit in with ok drinks but nothing special apart from the view.
That to me sums up the hotel, promises far more than it delivers.

We have just returned from a week at this Tui Blue for two.
The location is absolutely fantastic. There are not many hotels in the world where all you can see is sea and mountains, whilst sitting at the pool or eating your meal.
We booked through booking.com as Tui are not currently offering packages here from the UK and one thing we did notice staying for a week, was the high turn around of guests, most people seemed to stay for only 3 nights. The ages of guests was also very mixed.
I am not a normal sun bed person nor an all inclusive one, as I find the food to be a bit sub standard and you end up eating chips or eating out, which kind of defeats the object. That was not the case here, the food was of a much better quality at all given meals.
The pool was also nice, there were always sun beds available if you were unlucky not to find one there is also a beach with more sun beds too. In the day the pool bar serves good drinks but very limited snacks, but 3 meals are served in the restaurant each day.
We even got an evening meal at villa rose as part of the package, which was very nice indeed. This place is in a very idyllic spot at the end of the bay.
We also went to Dubrovnik old town for dinner, very easily done as long as you plan your journey with the ferry times. The ferry is very cheap under £3 one way, and takes around 30 mins.
We also used the spa facilities which were very good and relaxing too.
I have read other reviews that say that this place isn’t a 4* but I personally think it is, however it is in need of some TLC as some parts of the hotel are showing signs of wear.
Overall, we had a great stay and we would definitely return to this hotel, this place really is great for relaxation.

The hotel is set in the most beautiful and picturesque location, unfortunately the 4*+ hotel did not live up to expectations! The room was very dated, the furniture was shabby and did not match, the shower cubicle was absolutely disgusting with discoloured grout and mould in the corners and all along the bottom of the cubicle. There was dust pretty much everywhere and stains on the headboard. The 'mini bar' consisted of a great choice....either still or sparkling water! When questioned the receptionist said yes, this is what it should contain! The food was poor, luke warm on most days, anything made from potatoes was generally undercooked and the salad bar generally consisted of lettuce, beans and sweetcorn, we actually asked for tomatoes and cucumber. The themed evenings in the restaurant were pretty none existent and the speciality cocktail making classes just didn't happen. The staff were fantastic, they worked their socks off and really went out of their way to keep you happy. It is a real shame that the hotel does not live up the the expected standard as the island is an absolute gem. There was also an issue as the Villa Rose Restaurant was only open for weddings and not guests and there were hidden additional charges for the day beds. Towards the end of our holiday the beach became very busy with locals and other people visiting the island who were allowed to rent out sun beds from the hotel limiting availability for the hotel guests. Tui definitely need to put their guests first as we paid a lot of money for our two week stay and came away disappointed! We have been informed that the hotel is due to close at the end of the season for a refurb and this is what it definitely needs to make the 4*+ standard that it boasts!

Dear amp1968, Thank you for staying with us at TUI Blue Kalamota island resort. Thank you for your kind review and for pointing out the things we need to go through to improove the cleanlines and service. Our room fridge is refilled with water only up to th eTUI Blue standards. The Villa Rose restaurant is open only for the private events this season but we do not charge guests for the daybeds. Thank you again and hope we will have the opportunity to host you again. Kind regards, The hotel Management

The location of this hotel is perfect, close enough to the mainland if you fancy a bit of sightseeing and far enough away for a lot of peace and tranquility.
The views are amazing and all the walking trails across the island take you to some amazing sights and swimming spots.
The hotel itself has beautiful views across the bay and sitting in the restaurant or bar looking at the view is just a joy.
The boat rides are great, and the neighbouring islands are similar (Lopud has great bars and restaurants) and worth exploring.
The food at the hotel was poor and if you have any dietary requirements or allergies, do not stay here. There were sometimes labels on the food, and sometimes these corresponded to what was in the terrines. Everything was tepid at best, but then so we're the drinks as they are not kept chilled. Quite often what was left from other meals was just put back out later. We ate out whenever we could, but if you love cheese you are on to a winner as they put cheese on most things and if you wanted more cheese, there was a cheese selection too.
The drinks ran out at certain times due to being on an island but Marjana can whip up amazing cocktails based on what they have available.
The rooms are a nice size, the bed comfy and there is everything you need in there. Cleaning was a bit hit and miss, towels changed every day whether you requested it or not but that was the only cleaning for the full week we where there, except when we asked for the bin to be emptied.
If you love a beautiful location and are not fussy about food and drink, stay here, otherwise avoid or come for a day trip.
I recommend bringing a pair of swimming shoes as there are lots of sea urchins in the bay and bring everything you may need with you (sunscreen, soap etc) as there are no options of getting extra on the island.
Also worth visiting is the other hotel on the island, great food and drinks and really good service.

Positives:
Firstly arrival; from plane, coach, ferry, hotel reception was excellent, hotel even collected luggage from the pier and transferred to hotel room, which was unexpected, but a nice touch. We arrived at 11.30am however room was not ready until 2.30pm , luckily we where hungry and restaurant was open so no issues. Room as requested was a low floor, we stayed in Villa block 1 room 103 which was perfect for anyone with walking difficulties as there are many steps to reach other blocks.
Hotel food was excellent and restaurant was run like a well oiled ship by the manager Léonard who was always around checking if everything was ok. Cooking stations where always first class and happy to make the dishes as you like, spicy, not so spicy and pick your own ingredients.
Bar staff and waiters where all very attentive and nothing was too much trouble, my wife had a sore throat and they even went out of there way to ensure she had hot lemon and honey available everyday:).
If your a swimmer or hiker this place is perfect and at a reasonable price.
Improvement opportunities:
Beach was beautiful and sandy, no pebbles or rocks as you get into the sea however their was some plastic debri that washes up daily from the sea current. This could have been cleaned up by the hotel in 20 minutes with a rake. (again just a suggestion but the devil is in the detail, and it helps the planet).
Some of the hotel did look like it could do with a revamp and some money spending on it, just s refresh with paint would suffice.
Would i go back. NO, only because we like trying other places. Would we recommend It, DEFINATLEY, staff, service, people, island, Croatia, all beautiful!!!

Stunning place, yes it had just reopened so there were some small teething problems, for example there was a problem with the draft beer a few hours after we arrived. Naturally this was a bit worrying, but it was sorted within about an hour and no further issues.
Another example of how the hotel manages problems, our safe decided it wasn't going to lock anymore, reception had somebody to our room within 5 mins and within about 30 mins had a new safe.
Location is stunning the guided hikes are a must and gave us the confidence to explore the island ourselves.
Drinks wise all tasted fantastic to me, yes, they seem to have relatively small batches so the wine's change every few days, but I think variety is a good thing! the restaurant is open for plenty of hours and the staff always had a smile on their face. The food was exactly what I’d have expected from an good all-inclusive and there was reasonable variety. The a la carte restaurant was simply amazing, and the small restaurant / bar located across the bay did fantastic wine for about £1.40 a glass as you watched the sunset over the bay, food was also excellent as we ate here on our last night and very reasonably priced.
TUI’s organisation was fantastic and made the journey to the island as relaxing as possible, credit to the team!
Overall, after a busy 2 - 3 years we wanted chill and relaxation but the freedom to explore the island / Dubrovnik if and when we wanted to. Yes, we ate out a few times but this wasn't a necessity it was because we wanted to explore. I would go back in a heartbeat.

This hotel is positioned in a beautiful shelted cove with a soft sandy beach. It has a fantastic scenic view of the main land and it's stunning landform.
The Beach is regularly decended upon by day trips to the island and the locals, some of who'm are children. So you will need to decide if that's a deal breaker for you - for us it wasn't a problem, in our experience they were all very polite and considerate. It's clean and has a soft sandy sea bed with a gradual depth change, suitable for anyone not confident in swimming to cool off.
The room was nice and clean and cooled with a good air con system. The fridge stock wasn't great, 2 bottles of still and sparkling water, no light snacks.
Coming and going from the rooms to the hotel amenities provides a fair workout. Villa 8 overlooking the bay will give you the best overall view from your room.
The staff are second to none and the work ethic here is fantastic, no name dropping here they all go above and beyond and make a fantastic team. A couple more bar staff and waiters at peak times is required, both the staff and the tables available get very stretched so a good level of patience is needed.
I enjoyed the food , selection was adequate, cooked well and tasted great. The drinks can be hit and miss at times, a few more mocktails alongside some 0% alcohol beverages would be welcome addition. Branded drinks like bacardi, captains etc are all at an extra cost.
The only real disappointment for me was the watersports activities, they're not included and are run by a third party on the beach - £56.26 for a kayak for 3 hours. An hour of paddleboarding or kayaking a day would be a nice gesture.
Make sure to bring your own snorkeling equipment, you can't rent it here. The best snorkeling is near the nudest beach just along from villa rose but the bay is also full of life.
Access to Dubrovnik - as painful as it is especially on holiday. The 6:40am/6:45am ship to dubrovnik is a must, beat those crowds and temperatures! It will give you a much better overall experience.
We've really enjoyed our stay on Kolocep at Kalamota Island. I would defintely consider staying again. There are a few small issues which I'm sure will be addressed now that everything is slowly returning to normal after covid. Our thanks to all the staff who've made our holiday an enjoyable one!

Dear tomsearles, Thank you for staying at TUI BLUE Kalamota island resort last year. We are happy to read about your nice experience at hotel. As you say, unfortunately watersports activities, kayaks, paddleboarding, are run by a third party from the village. Hope you will visit us again this year as well. Kind regards, TUI BLUE Kalamota management

We just got home from spending 1 week at The Tui Blue on Kalamota Island after our cruise. What a stunning little island this was. Took about 40 minutes by ferry from Dubrovnik port, again transfers were impeccable. The hotel was lovely, and the staff did a very good job, but you could see that they were over stretched. The food was not presented in a very professional or appetizing display (in my opinion) as you might expect from a 5* hotel. Example, whole cooked chicken chopped into 4 and put in food warmers, same with most meats and fish. Choices were somewhat limited and repetitive.
The rooms on first sight were clean & tidy, but not cleaned thoroughly as you would expect. Dust on top of headboard and light fittings and dirt under the sink in the bathroom. That said the bed was huge and comfortable and we had a beautiful view overlooking the bay.
We were advised that there were steps from the service areas to the rooms, but we were not prepared for the 84 steps (we counted them), we had to climb, all up hill, to our room from reception. When we went for breakfast, we took everything we needed for the day, as climbing 'Everest' every 5 minutes was not an option. Lol
We found out that the hotel had only been open for 10 weeks, after being closed for nearly 3 years due to the pandemic. Knowing this we cut them some slack on things that could use some improvement ie, housekeeping, food and customer service.
Staffing levels and training did seem a little low so maybe by next year the problems will have been addressed and this hotel will be the 5* it was meant to be.
Overall a pleasant stay and a relaxing end to our holiday.

+1
We arrived on 12th June for 14 days and like many others we were really concerned with the recent reviews, in fact we tried to change our holiday completely. I am so glad we didn't! There have been so many improvements made, we noticed changes daily whilst there. More staff, food layout, food labelling, food quality to just name a few. All of the hotel staff, Reps and Management were always friendly and helpful. The location is stunning, photos just don't do it justice. Its so peaceful.
Always plenty of sunbeds on the beach, towels always available.
We didn't do any TUI trips but made 3 day trips into Dubrovnik using the local ferry. Go on the first boat as you can avoid the crowds and the heat, especially if walking the walls.
We used the a la carte restaurant, food was good but wouldn't say was excellent. The local restaurant was really good though, enjoyed a lovely bottle of local white wine.
Drink selection was fine, I was more then happy with the prosecco and white wine. Tried a few of the cocktails and they were good, the ones I tried certainly didn't come from a machine!
Our only complaint really was housekeeping. This I felt was more down to lack of staff. On a number of occasions we had to ask for our room to be cleaned and for towels to be replaced. Excuse given was change over day so clearly struggled with staffing on those days. The balcony also was never swept or cleaned whilst we were there and as we used the beach was dirty once we were mid way through our holiday. However beds were changed frequently, room was a good size (shame about the balcony size) and the air conditioning was great.
So to sum up. So glad we didn't change our holiday! Still room for improvement but isn't there always. Some people just like to moan, we realised this a few days into our holiday. However manners cost nothing and some guests needs to remember that!
Thanks for a truly relaxing and peaceful holiday 🤓
