I have returned from Katelios on the 21st of September, having spent 3 weeks at the Alkioni Hotel. The Hotel was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. During our stay in the second week we had a cyclone hit the Island which meant we had no electricity for 3 days and no water for 12 hours. The hotel staff were very helpful in these very difficult times, and supplied torches, and when we had our water supply back the staff bought in a generator so that we had hot water. There was nothing too much trouble for the staff, and we got through the difficulties together. The holiday was very enjoyable, so much so we have booked for next year and we are looking forward to it. may I thank all the staff for making our holiday very enjoyable, see you next year, Best Wishes Stewart and June

Just returned from this lovely peaceful hotel. we were fortunate to have missed the medicane, although when we arrived in Kefalonia we were advised by Tui that we couldn't go direct to the hotel as there was no electricity in the resort we were taken temporarily to a hotel in Skala then eventually taken to Katelios that evening when electricity was restored. We went down to breakfast the next morning where there was a good choice of foods, unfortunately you cant just help yourself at the moment due to Covid but we were well looked after by the staff. rooms were comfortable, and definitely had a womans touch, there was a table in front of a large mirror with a light directly over it which was perfect for me. All in all we had a lovely holiday and would return thank you Jaqueline and Matilda for looking after us so well

We arrived 2 hours before the hurricane hit... room was fine but no self catering facility despite it being advertised. As we arrived in rain we asked about food to be told only at breakfast, not even crisps. We then asked for a map of area to see where shop or restaurant was... no map and no guidance. We then asked for a taxi to go get some food and shopping in- one was called but it was like I was asking for the earth. Whilst out we got a warning from Greek government on phone to stay indoors, we headed back - no one from the hotel checked on us for 2 days in the storm, or offered any food or drink despite cooking for themselves. We had no power for 3 days and no water for 2 yet again no help or info from staff. We spoke to TUI who said to speak to resort but it soon became clear TUI couldn’t get info from owners either. Cleaning was just sheet and towel change - no actual clean Owners lack of care was clear.... and they changed opening hours to fit them and left us at hotel with no emergency support

We arrived at the Alkioni in pouring rain. No assistance offered with bags. Location really good but the rooms and communal areas so shabby. Door handle to bathroom fell off on first day, no batteries in air conditioning and no kettle, apparently due to covid, although there was a hairdryer so this felt like a trick to make you pay for their poor quality hot drinks. We were at the hotel during the hurricane and his really set the scene for how the hotel staff behaved throughout the holiday. We were without power for several days, and water for about 12 hours. Obviously this is not the fault of the hotel but the lack of care shown to the guests was astounding. No communication and no solutions offered. We couldn’t contact our Tui rep as no phones, electric or internet and so had no idea what was going on. We were not offered any assistance with food (all the restaurants were shut), light or flushing toilets. It was a complete nightmare. After the storm there was still no power but Katelios started to put itself together and a couple of restaurants opened so we were able to eat and a small shop up the road gave us credit until the cash points worked again. All of our information and survival tactics came from speaking to other guests. The hotel staff were terrible, when directly asked a question we were just given a blanket “don’t know”. Kateliós is a wonderful place and we will go back. All of my issues are with this terrible hotel. Even without the hurricane, it is very poor. Breakfast exactly the same every day. Nicely cooked bacon and eggs but served stone cold. Seats outside soaking wet so we had to take our own towels each day. Pool was not useable before we left even though other hotels had manage to sort their pools within a day of the storm. Dead birds everywhere and storm debris not picked up even 4 days after storm. We still had a good holiday because Katelios is lovely and restaurants nearby fantastic. However, from reviews on here and the Tui rating, I was expecting so much more From the hotel. I have never stayed somewhere with such uncaring staff. I am making an official complaint to Tui.

Alkioni Hotel Kefalonia This could be a good hotel but it certainly not small and friendly. The rooms are just about adequate but lacked some of the advertised facilities, including a kettle. We had to go and buy one in Skala with the hotel claiming they had to remove due to COVID-19. The reality is that they wanted to make money at the bar for the poor hot drinks on offer. The rooms need to be updated and decorated but most of all they need a good clean. The hotel is dirty and the cleaning every 3-4 days is just a change of sheets and towels. The bathroom was so dirty that we bought wipes and cleaned ourselves. With the focus on cleanliness due to COVID-19 we expected surfaces and the bathrooms to be cleaned. The breakfast is poor with bread, eggs, bacon and yoghurt served daily. There was no thought in the food provided and it got very monotonous after 3-4 days. Luckily there are plenty of tavernas doing breakfast and a good bakery over the road. Considering the family own a restaurant you expect better. The pool area needs some upkeep but the pool was fine the first couple of days. We enjoyed swimming and the water seemed to be clean and well looked after. Unfortunately we were here during the hurricane, which caused some real damage across the whole island with many landslides and floods. After the storm we saw some heroic efforts to open roads, clear mud from businesses and repair the damage from tree fall. Some places were back to normal within a couple of days. Meanwhile at the Alkioni the clear up was non existent. Dead birds were left across the hurdles grounds. The pool was left two days with all the debris from the storm sinking to the bottom. Work only started after contacting TUI. The first response to TUI was that the hotel had been working hard despite no action at all to clear the pool. That only started after photos were sent to TUI. When they did start it took three days to get the pool ready but it still looked dirty and had debris in the pool. We went to the Mythos bar up the road where the pool was spotless and the service excellent. During the storm the hotel staff looked after themselves and didn’t show any consideration to the guests. The power was off for three days and the hotel staff used temporary lights in the main reception in the evening when locked off from the guests. They cooked meals in the hotel kitchen but did not offer anything to the guests despite all the restaurants and shops being closed during the worst of the storm. The owners of other hotels provided food and drinks to their guests but not the Alkioni. They couldn’t even provide some water for the toilets so we were left using our drinking water and dipping the empty bottles in the pool so we could then flush the toilet. The service and communication at the hotel was poor with no information about the storm, electrics or water. Everything seemed like an effort and they were clearly not interested in the guests. This was not the typical warm Greek hospitality and definitely not a small and friendly TUI hotel. It is more like a small and uncaring hotel and we would not recommend. One star accommodation and at best one star service. On a positive side, the island is beautiful and Katelios would be our preferred resort if we came back. The local bars and restaurants all serve excellent food and drinks at reasonable prices. For a good night out we would recommend Alexis Cocktail Bar and Maria’s Taverna.
