A must stop over at an amazing location at a first class hotel with exceptional staff and food. Would highly recommend and will definately be back. Never mind Spain this is a beautiful part of the uk so easy to access and all ferry trips subsidies to make it so affordable. Staycation Staycation Staycation
My husband and I spent one night here on our tour of the Outer Hebrides. .Bed extremely comfortable, slept like a log. Room was overlooking the sea. Shower really good too. Evening meal and breastfast lovely. No complaints really. A local told us it had recently changed hands .we felt staff were a bit thin on the ground but that didn't detract from our experience. Not a lot of atmosphere in main bar area and music a bit iffy. Currently no hairdryer in room but you can get one at reception
Superb location with friendly staff and great food. With Eriskay now connected by causeway to South Uist this makes the hotel location ideal for trips to that island and also to catch the Barra ferry too.
Dropped in ‘on spec’ at lunchtime - was delighted to find they were happy to fit us in as we have have struggled constantly to find places to eat whilst touring the Hebrides. Friendly service and made to feel welcome. Good seafood wrap. Returned later and the next evening for a meal and enjoyed both .
We were disappointed by our recent overnight stay. The lovely location, the view and the comfort of the bedroom are set against failings in hygiene, signs of slapdash housekeeping and a poor breakfast experience. There was a dirty, used, stained towel among the 3 on the rail in the ensuite. When told about this, the manager only said briskly: "The towels were all changed yesterday so it must have been put away that way in the linen room." She did not acknowledge the seriousness of this particularly during the Covid epidemic and did not apologise for what we found disgusting. There was no bathmat and a bottle top was on the coffee tray. Dinner was fine and service was very good, but not so the breakfast which was poor quality and served in a rush by one person trying, and failing, to cope with a full breakfast room. People were left waiting for food and the tables were left uncleared after use. Clearly they are understaffed at breakfast but the resulting guest experience was not good. Coffee was warm Nescafe, clearly pre-prepared some time earlier and dispensed into a teapot from a pump vacuum flask. Good quality hot coffee is what we expected and did not get. The cooked food was greasy - barely cooked mushrooms didn't help. Only flavoured, sweetened yogurt was available. Juice, jam and marmalade were of very basic quality. We have stayed at the Polochar before and are sad to report this disappointing recent experience. We hope it was a one-off as this could be a great little hotel.…
