We had very mixed feelings re this place, but if you need a overnight stop with clean bedding and towels then this is the place. But with very dated furnishings and the absolute minimal utensils, tenants in the house's laundry hanging at the braaiplace, no wineglasses, cutting board, salad bowl etc its not a place I would come back to. Make no mistake the back garden is beautifully kept and u think with some better preparations for incoming guest it could work, but do NOT expect to stay in the rooms advertised on their web, as its not what you are going to get....

We stayed at the Bluecrane on 26 December 2016. Unfortunately our expectations were not met at the outset as the pictures on the Web site and what we actually got were two very different things. We were met by a person wearing a vest and he did not seem interested nor did he show us around. The caretaker had her washing out on the washing line and we had to go and ask for it to be taken down, so that we could use the braai area. I doubt very much that we would stay here again as the entire experience was very disappointing. We thought we would be staying in the main house, instead we got the converted garages.

Travelling to Somerset East on business on short notice, I had no time to properly investigate my accommodation (...should have spent more time on tripadvisor!!) I ended up booking at Blue Crane and accepted the simple accommodations and thanks much to the owner/landlord that decided to put me up in the flatlet outside. The positives are unfortunately few. Hot shower, kitchenette with basin, microwave that didn't work, fridge etc. Breakfast was ample and tasty. WiFi is good and probably the best thing there. I could work without problems. Negatives: There were power issues to the plugs that I rectified upon my arrival. The boat like bed caused back ache I still have. Luckily I travel with my own bathroom goodies because there was no soap. I figured out the TV eventually. Do not park inside if you want to leave early. You park line astern (behind each other) and would need to wake the others to get your car out. Luckily I was at the back, by planned action. I'd rather not elaborate on the very dirty couch.... This experience for me was not the greatest. It has potential, but my experience was not favorable.

We stayed one night- the Blue Crane was impeccably clean and cozy. The bed was warm and the shower hot. Breakfast was really nice. The place has a mixture of colonial and farm house feeling- very ambient indeed.
