Take part in our Transylvanian Countryside Lifestyle. Zabola is a unique estate, not just in Transylvania. It is a very much lived in family home, a property where guests are invited to enjoy the atmosphere of the turn of the century. Zabola Estate spreads over vast areas of the Carpathia Mountains. Our Guesthouses are dating back to the 18th, 19th and 20th century. They fulfilled different purposes in course of time. The Estate comprises in addition The Old Stables - a banquette house for leisure, drinks, dinners, receptions and other events. A refreshed and maintained English landscape garden with 2 lakes and 4 ponds, pavilions, terraces, a sauna in the woods, stables, barns and walking, hiking and carriage-tracks are yours to enjoy. The rich nature and wildlife we are living in and with is of high importance to us. Next to wild ducks, storks and great blue herons, the Estate and its adjunct forest gives home to bears, deer, wild boar, stags, wolfs, lynx, bats, squirrels and owls.

Many good things was put together to create a fairytale castle. The rooms are bigger and complete the medieval atmosphere. The chimney can be used without any fear, not a little bit of smoke comes into the room. The surroundings are well maintained and you can walk around peacefully.
The restaurant has a few options but the dishes were exquisite and very tasteful. Major plus were the wine list, both red or white.
The single minus was the prices for the whole experience and a little calibration will be useful.

Zabola Estate in Zabala offers an enchanting stay within a historically rich castle that exudes elegance and heritage. Once owned by the esteemed Count Mikes family, the estate has been tastefully refined to cater to guests, boasting vintage furniture that adds a charming allure to every corner. The exceptional cuisine, curated by a talented chef, is a culinary delight, though there were some areas for improvement in the breakfast offerings. Adding to the magical experience are the delightful and playful dogs that accompany guests throughout their stay, contributing to the estate’s warm ambiance. Ideal for a serene getaway, the estate also provides a range of experiences, from bear-watching to horse riding, ensuring a diverse and memorable stay in this quiet and picturesque retreat.

The Red Room
We were accommodated in the Red Room, an amazing bedroom with fireplace, candelights, a bathtub in front of the bed and a great decor.
The food is amazingly good and the staff was lovely: respectful, helpful and joyful.
We walked around the domain, admired the horses, drank wine watching the fire in the fireplace and felt, for a weekend like we weren’t in the God knows what stage of the pandemic (even though everyone was wearing their masks and all the rules were respected).
Definitely coming back. Definitely worth it.
Thanks for making our stay such a lovely time!

The place is beautiful and a nice getaway from Bucharest, rooms are definetly something else especially if you get one with a fire place and shower inside and the staff is welcoming.
The price of the room is understandable but the food menu was a big issue. Besides being extremely limited, only 2 soups and 4 mains, the prices are through the sky, while the products are nowhere near that spectacular and ridiculously small portions. What felt like an actual harrasement was being charged 2€ (10RON) for a chilli pepper after already paying 4 times more for a basic traditional goulash soup.
Basically if you stay for 2 nights you have to leave the premise in order to eat.

We have tried to make a reservation but there eas no availability for the dates we’ve requested. However, we were passing by on our way back home and stopped to have a look and maybe have lunch.
We were very suprised to being denied access on the property on the reason we are not guests nor having a reservation.
The conversation was held over the phone as there is no one guarding the secured gates.
Fair enough, no chance that we will ever try to become guests to such a property. Not that they even care about it.

Dear Macanila, We are very sorry for your disappointment, but you have to understand that our internal Covid protection measures limit the number of people in our restaurant. To protect our hotel costumers we decided not to accept outside guests for this period. We do care about all our future customers, but there are certain commitments we can not overgo. Thank you for your understanding, kind regards, Team Zabola

We appreciated this place like a private estate with traditional/romantic rooms and a big park around where you can take a walk for hours, watch the animals (horses, donkeys, poultry), the nature, just hear the sounds around, maybe take some time in the sauna in the wood. The food was good but a little pricey. We considered we payed not just for food, but for ambiance, services and the place where we were and all the nature around. When you are there, you consider you are privileged to stay in that wonderful place, in the middle of nature, but with high standard services. If you look for a quiet place for long walking, ancient but good quality furniture with very good bathrooms and quality food, you found it! And choose the Breakfast of Kings! You will remember it!

This estate has been brought to live and renovated by a hungarian duke. There is a royal air ended especially on the bathrooms design. The duke lives nearby and you can’t even acces the roads to his castle.
An old man couldn’t read the restriction note and walked though the ally. He returned 5 years later but 10 years younger.
Some staff claims that they actually saw the duke.
I had to leave very early at 5 am and it was all dark. While going down on the old wooden stairs, I could feel someone or something following me. I was to scared to look back and run to the car, even if my family was still in the room.
Later I found out that it was the duke..

Dear Sir, Your experience is not unusual at all. Some say they have seen Hercule Poirot slipping out of the dining room. History is part of Zabola Estate and that gives the place a mystique air. :) Love to see you back. Kind regards, Team Zabola

This place has a lot to offer and I received a lot from Zabola Estate in many ways., not just a great holiday, but food for soul and inspiration.
It has a story, a very vivid story and is a huge project for a lifetime to build, to create. I am very curious how this place will look in 5 -10 years. I wish the management and the staff the best and I want to congratulate for their work and attitude.
The nature and surroundings are really beautiful, a voluptuos silence, where you can hear and perceive nature, the history of the place...and yourself. It gives you the nicest context to slow down, and live on a different pace ...
The place is about fine living, in a princial manner, and this comes with positive and maybe less positive sides. For me, it was perfect, but I heard other talking about some down sides.
The room and the old furniture are very beautiful and comfortable, the shower is AMAZING. The food is delicious, even the prices are very high ...but this should not stop you to enjoy the place. Better not judging the place from this perspective, and go to Targu Secuiesc or Covasna for food and other supplies. But have at least 2 meals there and some drinks. It all worth it.
I will be back, because I felt in love with this location and the vibe around it. I had not enough of Zabola Estate. :)

We've spend a few nights in one of rooms from the Machine House.
We really enjoyed the domain, the walk through the gardens and the forest. It is very quiet and peaceful and you get in touch with the nature.
We"ve enjoyed the welcome drinks and we liked the fact the our room was very quiet.
The rooms are nice, bed is comfortable, shower and bathtub are of good size. Rooms tend to bring the atmosphere from old times, they have nice old pictures and old furniture.
I have no problem with old furniture as long as it is well kept and maintained, so that you can see someone had attentions to details and wanted to bring to life some old furniture and its own story. Sadly this is not the case. Some furniture, door, windows are deteriorated and in my opinion they look bad. I wish they have paid much more attention to this. After all, the prices are quite high for a night here.
The food was nice, but far from being "wow".
The portions are really small, baby size 😅.
"Ardei umpluti" is actually one 1.
Not to mention the goat cheese salat, it has 3 small slices of la coline goat cheese, 2 green leaves...there was no rucola by the way.
Overall it is a nice experience for 1 or 2 nights, but I would suggest trying to eat in some other places as well.
The waiters sometimes forget to wear the masks properly.
So does the recepetionery.
There is no desinfectant liquid in the room, or when you enter the Machine House. It could be an easy fix and it would show that you care about your guests' safety.

The food was delicious.
Nice, interesting furnished rooms. Finally something different than the modern ones.
For the price you pay, you get a piece of history, an extra feeling.
Large estate, perfect for walks.
Keep up the good work and your attitude so that you can restore the "old". :)

Dear Narcisa,
The best is if you check the situation directly at the hotel because it depends very much on the situation, behavior of dog, percent of occupation the place, etc.
