This resort has the most perfect view of the Matapalo Beach and also the beautifull landscape in the hotel, is a very huge complex with two hotels in the property, the Riu Palace and all the stores (expensives) along the main road.

the sand is very very hot. you need shoes on the sand at all times, but sandals or flipflops work. yes, there is a bit of rounded rock when you enter the water to swim. if you go further down the beach, no rocks at entrance -clear sand all the way. we didn't need our water shoes to swim, others complained terribly about beach even with water shoes. it depends on you. we did however, bring our water shoes on excursions......great for swimming in unknown beaches or ziplining. if space permits, I would recommend that you bring them--just in case

For the zip lining, you are transported in a open truck vehicle up the side of the mountain on a dirt road. The road does have a decent angle to it but seems to be relatively safe. We stayed at the Riu and watched people going up and down the roads everyday, several times, without any issues. My husband did the zip lining and said the upper roads were steep/bumpy but safe.
