A lovely pub tucked away in Farndale, always a friendly welcome and good food. A lovely beer garden with great views. Highly recommended if you are about in this part of the North York Moors. Popular with walkers and cyclists. The daffodil walk is very popular in Spring and leads you here from Low Mill car park

My wife and I recently stayed in Church Houses, the pub was my 'routine' stopping point whilst walking our Lab'. The pub is dog friendly and serves proper Yorkshire portions of food, the menu is typical 'Pub Grub' and plenty of it. The landlady and her partner were both very welcoming we had a good few chats over the week.... More

My husband and I ate here several times whilst staying close by on a weeks holiday in the North York Moors. Rachel, the landlady, is so welcoming and made us feel like locals. It is warm and cosy and the food is great. Portions are huge and great value. The hot shot dish is a speciality and delicious. It is... More

The landlady here is friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door making for a relaxed and enjoyable visit. Great 'pub grub', beware of the portion sizes - you really need to be hungry! The beer is well kept too if you're an ale connoisseur. There are beautiful views to the rear of the pub and the... More

“Do you permit dogs in your bar”, was our enquiry. “Yes we do.” Came the reply with a very pleasant smile from Rachel the Landlady. It is so encouraging to know a pub welcomes dogs and not just accepts them. As I was ordering the drinks some of the visitors and locals had a quick shuffle to accommodate us. That... More

Came on recommendations of friends who live nearby. Lovely country pub friendly staff good menu choice. Food was good but served on cold plates. Accompanying veg and chips served in cold dishes and the portions were enormous, so much so that we decided on any future visit we would share a main course!! Veg was watery and not especially appetising.... More

Hi Kathryn. Really pleased your enjoyed your food and thank you for your feedback. Not sure if you noticed on the menu it does state that half size portions are available on some of the main courses for those with a smaller appetite, this may help for next time. A little unsure your comment re the accompanying veg as all... More

Love this place. Beautiful setting. Good old fashioned pub. Great Staff. Brilliant food. Excellent prices. Because the portions are so large, they actually giggle as they ask you if you want a dessert.

Fabulous comfortable and welcoming, the rooms were lovely and quiet, the food was good quality and large in quantity, the beer was well kept and served. The landlady and her team were very friendly and helpful and they gave us a ride back up to Blakey Ridge to start the next days' walk. The evening in the bar with the... More

2 couples and our cocker spaniel enjoyed every minute. Extremely dog friendly place. Very good food both Sat evening and great Sunday breakfast. Landlady extremely friendly and chatty as was the guy helping behind the bar. Sat night proper locals place later in the evening so plenty of friendly banter. All of us said will return.

Absolutely fantastic. We had an evening bar meal and breakfast - the food was incredible, delicious and of such great quality and quantity. The place was a typical country pub, everything you would want or expect. The hostess/landlady was so welcoming and helpful, could not do enough to make the stay special. The accommodation was excellent. I cannot recommend the... More
