Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Pestana Porto Santo All Inclusive, often admired for its scenic beaches and serene setting, does not uniformly meet expectations as a 5-star resort, with some guests feeling that additional costs and underwhelming services detract from its value. While the cleanliness of the hotel earns widespread commendation, opinions are mixed regarding its amenities, with praise for the pools and dining variety but critiques of limited beach loungers and monotonous buffet offerings. Rooms are recognized for their spaciousness but criticized for a dated vibe and comfort issues. The service is generally well-regarded, though occasionally marred by staffing shortages.

Family of 4 2 boys age 13 First of all do not be put off by the stupid reviews below! And I never write massive reviews but had to for this!! Yes it’s a small island but with so much to offer! ARRIVAL - get your phone out the approach to the island is phenomenal Transfer is literally 7-10 mins from the airport. One of rooms was ready one wasn’t no big deal as it’s such a small island one plane takes off the other lands, they called me within 30 mins and it was ready and the bags were waiting for us HOTEL - Stunning grounds rooms are massive! Not going to lie I’ve been to some 5 starts and it’s not quite there little things like no mini fridge stocked with drinks or snacks but the staff worked tirelessly around the clock! Every day we came back from the beach our room was SPOTLESS bed made to perfection clean towels every day. FOOD/DRINK - Variety of themes/food every night fresh station to get steak, chicken, fish ,burgers cooked ect by ELTON who was always smiling! ALA-CARTE RESTAURANTS- we went to all 3 specialised bar the koi as the boys weren’t a fan of the menu. The best one was the Med just amazing (REMEMBER TO DRESS YOUR BEST AND MEN WEAR LONG TROUSERS OR YOU WILL GET TURNED AWAY) just adds that extra special feel to it 🥰 the others I’d just say the same as the buffet but waited more of a 1-2-1 basis. DRINKS - Without MED AND NEAL it would have been a shambles they are amazing really made our holiday yes there is a wait for drinks but all the cocktails are made fresh no sugary concentrated crap the real deal and they take such pride in making them for you. We were so disgusting that people moaned about the wait they are doing their best (tip tip tip you’ll be fine 😉 they appreciate it so much) The amount of people that didn’t shocking! ***** And shame on you the lady from Formby who complained that Med closed the bar at 3 minutes to ten when she had 2 drinks any way and reported him for closing 3 minutes early I was embarrassed to be English! And I hope Melody sorted it out with his manager Bruno as she promised us she would as is was out of order for him to get told off the poor man works 12 hours a day closes the bar 3 mins early to then tidy the whole place up?! *** I’m hoping I get a reply to that from this**** People are crazy and rude! I’d only say at meal times there needs to be more staff to cater to pour the drinks but that’s it. POOL - Great size lots of room no need to race to get sun beds and if any are reserved before 9am they will just be taken off and handed into reception it’s not Benidorm people! BEACH- I’ve been to the Caribbean 6 times and no beach compares to this wow wow wow could not get the kids out. Crystal clear, fun waves, golden sand not sure what the below idiot is on about plenty of beds they just cost €35 a day to use so book in advance or simply get an umbrella and wind breaker that are a available on entrance to the beach it’s that simple! Couldn’t fault it! EXCURSIONS - booked all the trips with TUI We did the speed boat trip it’s a must!!! Forget the catamaran (only if you have small children) you will LOVE the speed boat we had an unbelievable day and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We also hired the bubble cars and explored the whole island in 5 hours the man who brought the cars asked for my phone he put his wats app in then downloaded an app map and gave us a route with 13 stops on just followed the island round using the sat nab and my god what a beautiful Island the kids had such a fab time better then the 4x4 so much fun and the roads are quiet so no panicking about being on the other side of the road. ANIMATION - Didn’t really get involved with this as the bits are too old they played football and water polo the animation team couldn’t do enough always full of energy smiles on their faces! Evening entertainment just the same really same club dances ect we played cards most nights and spent time as a family but no complaints. Over all fantastic holiday kids said the best one they have been on! I have to be honest not a 5 star but a 4star + with potential the staff make it!! Just need a few tweaks and it would make it a 5star but don’t hesitate get it booked or if you have I’m jealous!

We have stayed at this hotel several times before and could not fault it. However, this visit in October was a completely different experience. The issues fell into 2 categories – 1) The management seem to have completely taken their eye off the ball. The food and drinks service was poor, the quality of the food was ordinary at best, litter was discarded under bushes in the grounds, on 2 occasions we saw cockroaches in the Sunset Bar, the evening entertainment by the animation team was lackluster, no pool towels available for the first 3 days of the holiday, our room safe was broken and it took 3 days to get someone in to fix it, the only bar open early evening (upto 8PM) was the pool bar so you had to drink out of paper cups before your meal. 2) On the 3rd day of our holiday the hotel (and its sister hotel next door) were hosting 500 18-21 year old “athletes” for a beach handball competition. We were only told this on the coach from the airport to the hotel. The hotel was totally unprepared for the disruption and chaos this would cause and eventually resorted to calling the local police to try and control the situation (which did not work). This disruption led to – general drunkenness and singing/chanting until 2AM, running around in corridors for much of the night, being woken at 7AM in the morning by shouting and balls being bounced in corridors, no food available for breakfast on one morning, not being able to use the sister hotels facilities (which we were told we could and have used on previous visits) because the hotel attempted to unsuccessfully segregate them from other guests, bar staff giving them litre bottles of spirits in a bar that the hotel was reserving for “normal” holiday guests. As the title says, this was very disappointing because on previous visits we have absolutely loved Porto Santo Island and the hotel. The overall experience fell very short of the 5 stars that Pestana give this hotel. PS If any representative of the EHF (European Handball Federation) read this post, you should hang your heads in shame if these were “ambassadors” of your sport.

The only positive point in a week was the quality of the beach. The quality of services provided at this Hotel is simply miserable. The complaint made personally to the Hotel Director, detailing everything that had gone wrong with our group (6 adults), was completely ignored, which led to 2 formal complaints to official entities.

Amazing!!! The most beautiful area we have ever visited! The hotel was great! Food - Plenty of choice & several restaurants to eat from. Plenty of space around the pool. Quiet areas and areas where you can be next to the entertainment. The beach is out of this world and a very short walk from hotel. Staff are attentive. We hired a car to travel around island & went on a boat trip! Get up early and watch the sunrise ☀️ Would definitely recommend such a shame TUI are not returning to this Island.

We took a half term family break at Pestana Porto Santo and we had a really enjoyable time. The hotel is small but lovely. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The location and island is beautiful and the beach is incredible! However, this is NOT a 5 star hotel in terms of the quality and luxury you'd expect. But for what we paid (last minute) is was good value for money. We booked a suite so the room itself was spacious and comfortable and the grounds were wll kept. Pools were also generally decent and were clean. For some reason they charge for sun beds on the beach, even when the beds weren't being used and there were loads available. They would come round 3 times a day with a clipboard for payment and everybody would get off the beds and have to sit on the sand. This seemed an unnecessary annoyance and was a cause of much irritation to guests. The food was plentiful but fairly average and quite samey in the buffet. There was a choice of 3 restaurants - the best being the Italian. The kebab meat in the Madeira Lover restaurant was inedible. To sum up this is a great place to stay for a week's holiday with the family, but if you're paying 5 star prices then be aware you may be disappointed.

Room Tip: You have to pay for sun beds on the beach - so not all inclusive in this respect.

The hotel setting is lovely and well laid out with all of the buildings/rooms located around the central lagoon style pools. We thankfully got upgraded, I say thankfully as we saw the twin room we’d booked and the beds were so much smaller than they seemed on the TUI website. The island is beautiful; the beach is beautiful and my sons loved the rock pools. The major downside for us was the food at the hotel. The buffet selections were poor and often overcooked/dry. They have a cooked to order station but we were given undercooked, pink burgers five times during the holiday, even after complaining! The only time there was a good buffet selection was on our final day where the hotel had invited locals for a big celebration. The only diet drink they had to offer was Coke Zero. I think during the whole week we were only offered a drink with our meal twice. I definitely would not have classed this as a five star holiday package.

Check in took a little while because of the amount of us arriving at the same time. Left luggage and went and had something to eat. Once our twin room was ready and we had unpacked we explored grounds. Absolutely beautiful. Facilities good. Bars spa pool and food all good. The staff were incredibly attentive. A special mention to Melody, Mehdi and Elson. Went to Mediterranean restaurant as our choice of speciality. Throughly enjoyed it. The weather was fabulous and met many amazing people. The only negative was that the time we were there it was the European hand ball competitions. Loads of youngsters, which at times in the evenings could be a bit noisy. A handrail over the bath would be helpful to make it safer/easier when using the shower

Great hotel in a fantastic location next to a wonderful beach. The staff were excellent providing a friendly and efficient service. The suite we stayed in was one of the largest we have stayed in, with its two bathrooms, living area and large bedroom. The balcony was one of the largest we have had with a hotel room. It was worth the extra for the suite. The outside bar area served the usual all inclusive drinks etc, cocktails were excellent and the outside grill area served a very good array of food. The restaurant for lunch and dinner served a good selection of dishes, always something that we liked. This hotel is in a quiet area which suited us, far from the crowds we see at some destinations. I can recommend this hotel for a restful break which we liked, can’t wait to return.
