We arrived at the inn at 3.30pm as check in time was after 3. We were met by Ewan the owners son who gave us our key and showed us to our room. The only info he provided was where the wifi code was and that our window wasn't closing properly but would be fixed the next day which it... More

The owner helped us by booking us Distillery tours and shared his knowledge about. whisky. The restaurant has great food. Lovely and worm people. The facilities are clean and tidy. Easy acces from all over the island.

Ballygrant is an ideal place to stay on Islay. The rooms are comfortable, the service is excellent, the food is fantastic (if a bit heavy on the sauce at times), and the whisky selection is beyond compare. The rooms do not include a private toilet, but that's a minor inconvenience, really. The bathtub wasn't operational at the time, though that... More

Balligrant inn have really good food. Seems like the kitchen have a dislike for deepfried food, so the cook it the normal way.. This is the place where you can get boiled potatoes and vegetables to your food. Not just fries. It`s also a great whisky pub with over 400 different bottles.

I love staying here it is so historic and peaceful with a quiet location. The Inn is run by the dog and the three legged cat although they let the owners David and Ewen think they are running it. David and Ewen are very accommodating so I am more than a bit dismayed at some of the recent reviews on... More

Arrived for lunch on our bicycles. Went to the wrong entrance door and was met by a very grumpy man who pointed to the door at the rear of the pub. Ordered sandwiches and the man serving was the most miserable, unwelcoming person I have ever come across in an establishment where dealing with the public is their business. No... More

If you are looking for a place where you will be treated with indifference and disdain, the Ballygrant Inn is for you. We were cycling back to Port Askaig after a couple of days on Islay, and stopped at the Ballygrant for a meal. After being completely ignored for 10 minutes despite the place being all but empty, we finally... More

Recently my wife and I were on Islay for a 3 night stay. Our B&B host recommended the Ballygrant Inn as a great place to sample some whiskey and enjoy a good meal, he even went as far as to make a reservation for us. They couldn't fit us in until 8:30pm as they were "very busy", but we still... More

My partner and I ate here on our recent stay for my partners 50th Birthday. Great local pub, food excellent, could not fault it at all. Had good chats with others in the bar and the young barman who had the greatest knowledge of whiskies and even helped my partner with the correct pronunciation of the distilleries on the Island.... On our first night on Islay our b&b owner recommended this place, and even rang to reserve our table for us. We were offered, and were happy to take, a dining time of 7pm. On arrival, we went to the (deserted) hotel reception, where after a few minutes a surly male member of staff shuffled in and told us we... More
