Mark and Alicia are the most gracious hosts. For my first 'real' stay in Jamaica, the bar has been set tremendously high. The hospitality to best in class. The food (farm-to-table) is an indulgent treat. With vegan and non-vegan varieties, you can trust everyone in the kitchen to prepare a meal that is beyond delicious. I wish I could stay at least a week longer. I will share a bit of a secret.... come during off season to enjoy a sanctuary unlike any other. The entire team takes tremendous pride in providing 5 star service. Photos do not do this place justice. We will definitely be back!

As recommended by our travel agent, we booked a private excursion from our resort in Negril to Zimbali Retreats. This was one of the most amazing Jamaican experiences we have had in our 27 visits to the island. After reserving our spot with Mark, he had a driver pick us up from Couples Swept Away and drive us to this mountain retreat. We had a tour of the natural farm and were then entertained and delighted by Chef Alecia and her staff. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The Jamaican pear (aka avocado) salad was perfect, followed by an artichoke and callaloo appetizer served with cabbage slaw. We each had a different entrée served with a plantain cake. Dessert was Jamaican fruit cake. And there was plenty of wine! Do not miss this opportunity to enjoy a part of the real Jamaican culture. You won't be sorry! Just be prepared for the 45 minute ride to get there...it is worth it!

If your idea of the perfect vacation is a sprawling resort with lots of activities and mediocre restaurants, then Zimbali is NOT for you.BUT, if you want an authentic Jamaican retreat that offers a relaxing respite from life‘s hustle and bustle, this is your destination! My husband and I were in Jamaica several years ago and enjoyed one of their culinary dinners, and were so taken with the exquisite food and tranquility of Zimbali that we knew we had to come back for the full experience. When we arrived at our destination (hidden at the end of a 2 mile dirt road from the main highway) and well off the beaten path, we breathed a sigh of contentment. Friendly staff greeted us and said we were already checked in. Our room was clean, comfortable and charmingly decorated with various Jamaican artworks and colorful bed quilts. The adjacent porch had a nice hammock… conducive for reading and relaxing. Although the room had no AC, it was cool enough at night that a light blanket was comfortable. And thankfully no television! The room overlooked a valley below adjacent to the large organic farm that provides the produce for their amazing meals. The common rooms include a large covered porch with comfortable couches that invite you to sit and relax...it was a great spot for reading and birdwatching. The atmosphere is laid-back homestyle, as the owners kids sometimes ran through, and you might be sipping a cocktail while an adorable tot zoomed by with his truck. Staff quietly ensure that your needs are met, and are happy to accommodate your requests. Our stay included breakfast and dinner, and the meals were the best I’ve ever eaten in Jamaica, or most other places for that matter. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and accompanied by delicious, fresh homemade juices. The plantain hashbrowns alone are worth a stay, and you’re a “foodie” you’ll really anticipate mealtime! The resort also offers various side trips for their guests, including a day at the beach, swimming in a nearby river or a hike up a local mountain to enjoy lunch prepared by a Rasta. A day at the resort can be spent wandering the grounds, taking trails to explore nearby areas or finding a quiet place for meditation and contemplation. As a dog lover, there was the added bonus of 7 dogs running freely on the property, sometimes serenading us with a midnight howl! I also loved the clucks and crowing of roving chickens and roosters...no alarm clock needed. Zimbali is a truly unique place like no other, and I believe the owners have accomplished exactly what they hoped to: a peaceful retreat that renews and refreshes in the spirit of love. Oh, and they were in the process of putting in a pool when were there!

We stayed at Zimbali in Feb 2020 for 2 nights along with our children, ages 10 and 13. The best parts of our stay were absolutely the Rasta Tour and the Farm to Table Dinner. The hike up to see Fire in the mountains was absolutely something my kids, husband and I will not forget! The farm tour was cool and farm to table dinner was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone! The only thing I would warn to others considering staying at Zimbali overnight is that we did feel a bit like we were in the way of the staff and not completely welcome. It's clear that the dinner show is the highlight and priority of the place and the staff are all constantly working on preparing for the next show and not paying much attention to the few people staying there. Aside from the time period the show was going on, we were never asked if we would like something to drink and no one ever spoke with us or engaged us in conversation at all, which makes for some long hours. In two days, I don't believe anyone even knew our names. When we'd want a drink, we'd have to go find someone who was preparing food or doing dishes, and ask for it and we always felt like we were inconveniencing them. In fact at one point my husband and daughter just went to the room and read because they felt like they were in the way! Also, on our second night there, our room rate did not include the farm to table dinner (I hadn't really understood this), but instead a dinner in another room, outside of the "show", which does make staying a second night a much lesser value. We thought this was ok though because we'd get great seats from the drummers, who had just started. We were very disappointed though when we took our seats just as the drummers stopped, as apparently they break while the entire farm to table show is going on. So we again just sat there with no real service, entertainment (they didn't turn on any other music, it was just silent) or conversation, feeling second rate to the dinner, for over an hour until the dinner concluded and the drumming started. I'd highly recommend Zimbali for the day (Rasta tour, Farm tour, Farm to Table Dinner) but unfortunately we were disappointed in the stay.

I traveled to Jamaica to get away from the cold midwest weather and found a good price on a flight to Negril where the wheather was a perfect 85 degrees everyday for the time I had to travel. I booked a stay at Zimbali Retreats. The website looked interesting and it had everything I was looking for. I wanted to relax and get some sun but I also wanted good food and be around nice people. I arrived from the airport after being picked up by the resort taxi. I immediately was welcomed by the owners and their amazing staff and shown to my room. After settling in with my luggage I was greeted with an ice cold beer and was shown the property which was more than beautiful. I relaxed for a bit and then was treated to one of the best meals I have ever had. All the food was either grown on the property of brought in from local farms. I was blown away by the food and the people. Rarely do I ever get that combination. I spent 3 amazing days there with the most amazing breakfast with fresh fruit from the property and coconut water that was just opened for me with it still in the shell. The staff took me to the a few spots on the beach and on a glass bottom boat tour to snorkel. I t was amazing, a clear blue reef that had tropical fish everywhere. I can not wait to go back. I will make this my new winter vacation from now on. From the gourmet food to the beautiful property, the staff and owners made my trip just amazing! I rarely review anything, but people need to know about this place.
