Wonderful place! The service is good, the breakfast fresh and the rooms are clean with an ocean view. You have the beach in front of you, with palm trees all around, it almost seems it belongs only to you, no crowds and super clean. I would say it's a hidden treasure. Highly recmanded.

On arrival the evening receptionist tried to rip us off on the price of the safe, and also tried to do it again in the week over the price of the stamp. The food was never hot, even after we complained, and the variety was poor. Having the same fried fish 3 times during 10 days, and the same fried chicken and fish 2 days running. The bed was comfortable but looking at the state of the base I daren't look to see what the mattress was like. I also like to sit in bed to read, but my side of the bed (2 singles pushed together) would slide about 10" away from the wall, as there was no headboard or break to keep the beds together. The hotel was quiet as there were no animations, but then you would get the boom boom of loud music from the next door public beach almost daily. The shower needed a good run through to get hot water, which would then either stop completely, get too hot or cold while showering. The tap in the wash basin rarely had any water come from the tap, and it was never hot. But most of the staff were very nice and helpful . The tv was quite small.

One night in Playa Esmeralda is always enough. Our room was on the third floor, and the steps are narrow and steep, especially when carting heavy suitcases. Arrived in time for lunch, and the menu was nearly the same as for the dinner, with a few variations. The small bar was often closed, or at least unstaffed and the drinks are weak. I was glad we had booked a budget rate, as the rate online was crazy high. Rooms are really humid even with the AC working. Bring your own toiletries and don't even think about using the bidet. Don't book this place for more than $80-90 per day. You can do much better elsewhere. The beach is small, although actually adequate. Watch out for sea urchins (not just at this hotel of course!). Next time...a different place

A group of around 19 of us stayed at this lovely beachfront hotel after a weeklong service trip in rural DR. The beach and grounds are delightful. The water is calm and warm - very safe. The hotel has a pool as well. Grounds are lovely. The food is also very good - buffets at every meal with a variety of tasty local dishes. The all inclusive price including some bar items is a great deal. The rooms are modest but clean. The AC works well. Our shower worked but had only tepid water. Unfortunately, others in our group were less lucky with their showers. The showers in several rooms did not work at all with barely a trickle of cold water coming out. If it weren’t for the shower issue, I would have given this hotel a higher rating as it was lovely in every other regard.

Fantastic little hotel, clean, gorgeous gardens, palm tree sandy beach. The on shore breeze was great as really hot even in February.Food was pretty simple, several hot mains, salads etc and cake/flan puddings.Totally adequate and excellent inclusive value, the Pina Colada and rum punch were to die for!!! TV etc in room, had gorgeous seaview room with balcony, clean, beds made everyday. No problem except no kettle for making a brew. This is to probably discourage buying local coffee jars etc. The private beach was small but sandy and no seaweed. The only problem was that on Sundays, everyone is off work and walk through the private beach to access the public beaches either side of the hotel. This is allowed by the hotel, but was a bit disconcerting as a paying client,as they were groups of young men and screaming kids, which ruined the quiet ambiance of the day sunbathing. BUT,don't let this one day event detract from a totally enjoyable week away. Playa Esmeralda is a 3* hotel but feels more like a 4* as so 'un- touristy' and secluded. Loved it,scuba dived at Ocean Diving club, who picked me up every morning. Recommend this hotel, and will definitely be back!!! Just as a palm tree beach holiday should be!!!

I stayed for two nights and it was during the slow season not many guests with 40 rooms but if it were busier I’d like it better. Sort of secluded very nice grounds, clean, pool good private beach a big plus, room a/c and bed excellent, terrace, basic room nothing fancy but t v needs improvement too small. No restaurants available to walk to must take a taxi committed to their hotel food breakfast could be better.

This is a small, quiet and cozy hotel. It has a nice small pool and it is in front of the beach. It offers a good breakfast. It is perfect for a one or two day stay. It is 10 minutes from the the town of San Pedro de Macoris and 30 minutes from Santo Domingo.

A great option away from the crowded resorts of Boca Chica and all inclusive resorts. Playa Esmeralda is an all inclusive resort but a small resort with friendly staff. The beach is small but due to the small numbers plenty of room to relax. Sundays can be busy as locals come to enjoy the beach and food. I booked direct with the resort. The rooms are basic but the views are beautiful at the front. The rooms at the back have a view of gardens

I'd visited Esmeralda two years ago, and much is the same at the hotel. It's still reasonably priced with moderately sparse rooms and, at times, a shabby appearance. The grounds are well maintained, while the rooms are just OK. Of course you go there for the beach and the location, so don't plan to spend lots of time in the room. There have been a few upgrades to the dining room, and the food is just satisfactory but not gourmet by any means. The free bar has been downgraded to not much more than a table with blender. One highlight was the activities director who was affable, friendly and fun. Sand volleyball anyone? Yea,we'll probably go back again sometime.

Yes I gave it a five star is it truly a five-star hotel no. However the service is excellent the rooms are more than adequate and very clean. Beach is small but not crowded food above average but plenty. Drinks well let's say they don't skip on the alcohol . Bartender is amazingly friendly and makes one heck of a drink. Totally advise staying cost more than a good deal.
