Always the best. We return to Logden Lodge yearly as it is a favorite family trip. We enjoy Nelson, Whitewater, Red Mountain, and the Ainsworth hot springs. But what keeps us coming back and what we look forward to enjoying most is Logden Lodge. During our first stay years ago, we had planned to have dinner each night at the many attractive restaurants in Nelson. However, over the years we prefer spending as much time at the lodge and forego eating at restaurants so that we can relax at the lodge in front of the fire. My only hesitancy of writing such a glowing review is that it will become more difficult to book a stay. However, that would be fantastic for Paul and Annelies who are the ultimate hosts and who we enjoy seeing annually.

Wish our experience had been favorable. However, on arrival, the driveway was solid ice, and our vehicle slid backwards when we got out to see about checking in. We tried walking around to find the 24-hour attendant, who was not there, finding nobody. We could see nothing but ice everywhere and walking back to the car was hazardous. The property is on quite an incline and in these conditions simply unsuitable without some preventative care. No gravel, no salt, no handrails, nothing safe around here for us older folks (65 & 67). Imagine we go to Nelson for dinner, and we return in the dark. We’re likely to sustain a fall that puts an end to our ski trip (Whitewater). We decided to leave and headed to Nelson. Along the way we now got signal and the owner (assume) answered the phone; we explained the situation to him. His reply was simply, “well, what did you expect?” I said we expected accommodations that we can safely enter and leave. He said, “I’ll drive your luggage up to your chalet, and will give you crampons”. That we said was not acceptable and demanded a refund. He refused to refund our money and insults us as well. We did not get what we paid for and it’s hard to imagine a business owner being such so unpleasant and insulting, and refusing to acknowledge that he has responsibilities here.

Dear ingolfa2018, Thank you for your kind personal address and lovely review. You kept your word, and we can only hope it will not destroy us as you proclaimed you would set out to do. Suffice to say the picture you paint of our conversation isn’t exactly as it unfolded but I will not rebutt it point by point as such wouldn’t be of much help to your fellow travellers and you’ve made it very clear earlier that no one could possibly convince you otherwise anyway. But for the benefit of our future guests who may have concerns about potential icy conditions I am happy to share the following; Yes, during a prolonged period of freeze-melt weather conditions it can get icy and generally speaking such wouldn’t be sufficient reason for a last minute free cancellation. Of course we’re always open to consider personal circumstances and making exceptions when it’s evidently the right thing to do, but citing safety concerns whilst also planning to ski the equally crusty slopes (surely no risk of falling there) and being ok to stay if only you’d get a discount doesn’t really qualify. As the review points out, we do have crampons (and snowshoes and poles) at hand to freely provide to our guests whenever needed. We use our chained-up utility vehicle to chew up the the icy patches when things soften up a bit, the only proven method that works (gravel, salt etc have all been tried and failed). And same vehicle we also gladly use to take our guests (with or without their luggage) to and from their cabin whenever they wish during their stay. In all, yes nature certainly does challenge us from time to time and we don’t always win, leaving us with the only option to try mitigate any inconveniences resulting from that as best we can. Unfortunately in this particular instance we didn’t get that chance (the reviewer arrived well before check-in time and did not return) but whenever local conditions are of a concern we’re always happy to discuss your stay - as our wish is the same as yours; come rain, snow, ice or sunshine, for it to be as enjoyable, and safe, as it can possibly be!

We cannot say enough about the Logden Lodge experience. This was our second time visiting Logden Lodge and it was every bit as special as the first time. Paul and Annelise have designed the property to afford maximum privacy and comfort for their guests. Other than a short trip to Nelson we spent all of our time relaxing at our thoughtfully curated cabin. Many thanks to Paul and Annelise for sharing their special property with us and our pup, Murphy. We look forward to visiting again. Kind regards, Brian and Jane Lougheed

Dear Brian & Jane, Thanks so much for your repeat visit and glowing feedback, it's always a true pleasure to have you here! We've befriended a dog whisperer who will help Laika understand that Murphy has every right to enjoy the place as much as you do so next time they may roam the property in unison...:). Wishing you both well and we'd look forward to meet again another time! Warmest, Paul & Annelies

I have to start off by mentioning how welcoming and chill Paul and Annelies are. My girlfriend and I felt relaxed immediately. The cabin was outstanding and had everything a couple could want for a cozy getaway. The extra deep tub was nice as was the serene nature of the environment there. Thank you guys for being the perfect hosts and hope you enjoyed the fruit bowl we put together. Danke, bedankt and good luck with your journey! Bret & Carrie

We stayed at Logden Lodge just before Christmas 2022. We knew from the reviews that we would not be disappointed but it was even better than expected. What a great place to spend cold winter nights and ski at Whitewater. The wood stove was perfect and the beds, well, they are outstanding. Would love to come back in the future. A huge thanks to our hosts. You have a real gem.

From the moment we turned into the driveway of Logden Lodge to our departure three days later it was a five star experience! Hosts, Paul and Annelise provided us with a warm welcome while ensuring that privacy was afforded at all times. We stayed in the Elise Cabin, located by the like named creek that runs along side the cabin. We were struck by how seamlessly the cabins blend into their natural surroundings. It is obvious that the owners placed the utmost importance on preserving the integrity of the natural setting. The cabin had a luxurious feel with a super comfortable bed and a thoughtfully curated collection of furniture, objects and artwork from the owners private collection. If you are looking for a get away that provides an opportunity to unplug, rest, reflect and reconnect with nature than look no further than Logden Lodge. That being said, if the peace and quiet becomes too much, the hip and happening town of Nelson is an easy 30 minute drive. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and we hope to return to this magical forest retreat soon. Many thanks for Paul and Annelise for sharing their special place with us! Kind regards, Jane, Brian and their pup, Murphy

I cannot in good faith recommend this lodge as the owners are unreliable and argumentative. The cabins are very rustic, which would very fine, but they charge for and advertise luxury. Unit had previous dog's hair, so not deep cleaned, as promised. Supply very cheap coffee. Coffee maker not cleaned and had previous guest's moldy coffee. Because of their own holiday, negatively impacted the start of our holiday, by moving our arrival time ahead by several hours, within hours of our arrival. After a long drive with 2 dogs, and very hot weather, we were very inconvenienced. They suggested we use the time to have a nice dinner out. Hmm, and what were we supposed to do with our dogs while we had this nice dinner out?

Kathy, hi again. Somehow we are not surprised you now choose a public forum, after endless communication via the phone and email. What does surprise us that here, you bring up things we've not heard from you before. During your stay we were always here, we chatted, all in a friendly way, and you didn't mention any of this. You were happy then with the way we built our cabins, our choice to use all wood, blending the cabins into nature with all the luxury amenities you need. We are the owners, and also prepare the cabins. The cabins are always thoroughly cleaned. The coffee is from a good brand (Nabob), and complimentary. As you know, we were due to arrive back 2 days prior to your arrival, and the moment we realised we may be delayed too much, we contacted you about our situation from the airport the night before, tried to keep you informed during our trip home and extended you a discount. To none of our messages you responded. We can in good faith say that we are not unreliable, nor argumentative, and always do our very best to accommodate our guests with anything they need. We can recommend a nice hotel in Nelson next time you are in the area. With kind regards, and wishing you all the best, Paul & Annelies

There were 5 of us staying in the Heritage Cabin for 3 nights. It was in a beautiful, quiet location. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The porch and firepit were great, and the plentiful firewood was nice and dry. It was a great spot to explore the surrounding area, including Nelson and Ymir, then in the evening relax around the fire. I would highly recommend, and look forward to visiting again.

Our two nights in the Gold Cup Cabin were the best. Annelies and Paul are welcoming hosts. The cabin was so well designed and appointed and beds are very comfortable. Loved our porch, fireplace and barbecue. Kitchen well equipped and excellent location for visiting Salmo, Ymir, Kaslo and Nelson. Loved the mural walk through Nelson, coffee at Oso Negro, Kootenay Co-op for groceries, food at Yum Son, Nelson Brewing Co. for beers. Can’t wait to come back.
