Detailed Reviews
What an amazing find.
We loved the location - on the shores of Lake Manyara
the lovely acacia trees,
the large, clean, comfortable tent accommodation,
the wonderful, helpful, smiling staff,
the delicious food,
the big, crystal clear pool,
the presence of zebras and monkeys on the lodge grounds, hippos in the evenings,
the fact that everything works well - there's always hot water, electricity, wifi and lots of plugs.
And all this at a very reasonable price!
Our special thanks to Steve, the manager, Mustafa, the receptionist, Ronald, the waiter who took such good care of us during our 3 night stay and Elisha, the Masai askari whose radiant smile we will never forget.

Very nice place, beautiful tents, comfortable, clean bed with fabulous sheets. Because the lake is currently flooded you can see the lake from the grounds. Staff were all lovely and helpful. Could see some hippos from the hotel (over the fence) and there were also vervet monkeys on the grounds which would occasionally jump on your tent. This made for an authentic experience!
Downsides- lunch box was not worth the price of $15, wifi wasn't working and so was only set up in the bar and was incredibly slow, breakfast was a disappointment (they had run our of tea and jam). Also the rooms had massive, thick quilts. This might be cool foe a cold climate but not appropriate foe a tropical one so I had to strip the quilt.

After a long day in the Manyara Lake National Park, this is a fantastic refuge to kick back and relax. The management and staff are all very friendly, especially the night guards who ensure you get back to your tented rooms after dark past the roaming hippos. The facilities include a games area, bar, large pool, and an amazing dining facility out near the lake where you can take in some of the roaming local wildlife. Definitely a place I would return to in the future.

I stayed in one of the comfort tents for 6 days as a solo traveler. I enjoyed my stay here. The staff were all wonderful and very kind! Mustafa at the front desk was a great help with getting my covid test booked and handled everything for me. I spoke to several booking consultants (mostly Melanie) and they were all wonderful and answered all my questions. My driver/guide David was very nice and knowledgeable and answered all my questions while on safari drives. I felt safe here as a young woman alone. I enjoyed all the wildlife! Zebras, baboons, wildebeests, hippos and monkeys all enter the grounds and you will see them frequently. I did have a problem with ants at my tent and they sent someone to come spray the perimeter every day which seemed to fix the problem. There were also lizards in my tent (two on the mosquito net around my bed) but they did not bother me and it would have been impossible for me to try to catch them to get them out.
While I did enjoy my stay, there were a few things that I think could have been better- 1. the tents need better lighting, especially in the bathroom area. I think lights above the toilet and shower would be particularly helpful, as I had to use a flashlight when I used them. 2. I really hated walking on the rock pathway out to the restaurant. It was hard to walk on and the rocks would always get in my shoes. I wish it was paved! 3. The food was okay, but one thing I didn’t like was that there wasn’t a menu of things to choose from for meals. There was a few times where I was asked what I wanted to eat for the upcoming meal which I appreciated! 4. I think either a ceiling fan or a small portable fan in the tents would be nice. There were times when it got pretty hot in my tent and a fan would have been amazing! 5. There was always a lot of animal feces on the walking trails. You need to watch where you walk or you will step in it. They should have someone pick it up atleast once or twice a day. 6. Room service was good but my tent definitely had a lot of cobwebs and dust. The shower needed a good cleaning too.
Other than that, things were good!

We stayed here for the first 2 nights of our seven day safari – excellent! (Our guide picked us up from Arusha early in the morning…we spent the day in Tarangire National Park, spent the first night here, spent the next day at Lake Manyara, spent the second night here, then left for Ngorongoro Crater early that morning…). I LOVE this place. Our tent had a restroom, hot shower, plenty of room – really a beautiful room. This place also has a large dining area, a bar area, a gym area, bikes, pool (see photos below). One thing I liked about this place is that we got to know a number of the fellow guests at the bar after dinner. We ran into one group later at a place we stayed in the Serengeti. I read another review explaining that the dining area was a bit of a walk from the tents….true, but necessary – animals at night! I could tell they had people outside keeping watch all night and keeping animals away. And someone was always there to accompany you and walk you anywhere you needed to go. The wifi worked in the check-in area and in the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

This place is great for the muzungu (tourists). We had a HUGE tent, and the pool was great, along with the food. Staff are friendly and helpful. BUT, the accommodation and food for the staff was so bad that our guides opted to pay for a room & meal in town rather than stay a 2nd night at this place.
Our tent was about 50% bigger than we needed, and we wondered why? I would rather they’d give the staff a nicer place, or a bit more room. And the quality of food for the staff was so bad that our driver begged us to bring him to the restaurant (where they did let him eat for free).
I don’t think our guides/driver were expecting too much. We’d been traveling with them for almost 4 weeks and this was the first time they complained.
Finally, for some weird reason it’s all spread out. The walk to the restaurant is a good 7 minutes from about 1/2 way across the camp. Reception is not close to the pool & bar and nothing is close to the restaurant. It was a weird layout that would be impossible if you were the least bit mobility-impaired.
Finally, the mosquito net had many holes. At first I repaired the 2 I noticed. As I was doing that I realized there were many more. I gave up. Mosquito net rating = 0/5.

Quite friendly staff, average rooms, though large, average food.
Very good swimming pool.
Recommend to spend 1 night if you plan to vist Manyara park.
If the hippo is close to your tent, then staff can wake up you in the night to watch it

We stayed at AS Lake Manyara in mid-August 20. The camp is 2.5 kms of the main road, so surroundings nice and quiet. Price was very good. Menu is limited but evening meal food was excellent. Breakfast, unless you got there first thing, was a bit cold! Due to recent flooding of the lake, some of the property was underwater, so this made the place look a bit untidy in places! Otherwise, well kept and maintained. In the adjoining field there were gnu, gazelle and zebra. Tents were very good and beds comfy. My sleep was poor due to high winds in the night which caused the tents to creak and groan a lot! Staff very helpful. Although the music was not loud, I would discourage the camp from having music in the bar area - especially when there are no guests there!! All in all, a great stay for us and good value for money.

+1
Everything I read about this lodge was true. Before even booking my safari I knew I wanted to stay here and I was not disappointed. To the contrary. I was amazed at the quality of the service and the facilities. A perfect jewel. The staff is so helpful and friendly. The place is clean and comfortable. Even if wifi is available only at reception. We didn't have hot water. But cool running water in a 100% functional bathroom was most welcomed after a day in a safari. Part of the camp was flooded so we didn't see many animals passing through except for the mischievous monkeys.
You remember where you are and this exceptional opportunity to reconnect with what's most important: the people and the environment around you. I highly recommend. You can go, eyes closed.
The picnic boxes are top quality. They think of everything for you before you even have a chance to realize what you need!
Thank you so much for a lovely stay.
