Went for a day pass with my partner for his birthday and it was most enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the check in for the day was quick and easy, we got a standard room with a balcony and view. The rooms are quite spacious for couples, well kept, clean and the bathroom is well lit for my fellow makeup ladies.

The only thing with the bathroom is that it’s just a shower curtain so it’s easy for water to get out so be careful of that .

The tv is just standard cable so no fancy smart tv with Netflix or YouTube but that was alright, the WiFi is fast and it also comes with a kitchenette.

The pool was cleaned and nice as usual, ofc the views at this hotel is just everything for me. It was a great stay even though it was short. Would definitely be visiting again when their doors reopen 🙌🏽

Stayed at Cara Suites for 1 night and I was pleasantly surprised. The lobby and pool area is beautiful. My room was very clean but needed some touch-ups. Below the A.C. has some mildew, it seems they had some sort of leak because the entire painting below the A.C. seems soaked and also has some mold. Nonetheless I would recommend them. Dinner and breakfast at the Zest Bistro was awesome!!

I thought this was a great hotel. I used to stay in Port of Spain and travel South on business every day before as there was no place of quality to stay. I found Cara Suites on my last trip and I was very glad I did. Within easy travelling from Point Lisas and San Fernando, the location is ideal.

The previous comment spoke about the view and I have to say I agree totally. It is fantastic and having a drink at the bar wiht the sun setting in the background was wonderful. His other comment about the staff I found to be very unfair. Security in hotels is very important and I found the staff here to be great, friendly and professional.

Apart from that, the food in the restaurant was great, the rooms very large, comfortable and well equipped.

I would highly recommend Cara Suites.

I have been to this hotel so so many times in the past, but recently it has forever lost my love and loyalty. I have spent my money, recommended it, invited my family and friends but today I was saddened to see the level of unprofessionalism. I visited this hotel on Sunday to celebrate with one of my colleagues. Unfortunately because I do not consume alcohol I got a bit booze after having a glass of wine. When my friend realised I was tipsy he offered to take me to wash my face and refresh myself of which I did. On getting to his room with my visitors pass I asked if I could sit for a while until the feeling subsided. Without hesitating he said ok. Not thinking that this would have been a problem I sat and tried to revive myself. Minutes later we heard a loud banging on the door and when we enquired it was hotel security. On opening the door staff started taking my pictures and video taping me in the room shouting and asking me to get out the hotel room. Being a professional that I am I was advising the woman that it was within my rights to be on the compound because I had my pass and what she was doing was against the rules of the hotel. She continued as she made embarrassing statements about me leaving. My conclusion at that time was that my colleague's roommate had made an untrue report to the hotel security who never investigated the matter, but came into the room requesting I leave. I never violated any rules, all I wanted was to refresh myself so that I could get home. Begging the staff for a moment to get myself together they continued carrying on and demanding I leave. At this time in my defense my friend insisted that he escorted his own guest off the compound at least to save the unwarranted embarrassment that I was already facing. Instead of allowing this, they decided to make matters worst by calling the police. When the police got here (their office located 2 mins from hotel) they came to the room and spoke intelligently and allowed my friend to take me out. This was the most embarrassing experience of my life. I will never return nor recommend this place....too unprofessional

It would appear that the sole purpose of this review is to damage our Hotel’s reputation purely because the lady concerned was caught in a situation she should not have found herself in, which reading between the lines of her own review is not too difficult to see why. This lady has not been to our hotel many times in the past but only started to frequent in recent evenings. On the evening in question she was celebrating as a non-resident with a group of males guests at the hotel and not with a colleague. She became drunk and found herself in a male guest room much to the discomfort of her male guests roommate who requested that the hotel have her removed. As the hotel has a strict policy of no non-residents allowed in guest rooms, (the policy of any reputably hotel throughout the world), she was asked to leave by our hotel security. No hotel staffs shouted took photos or made video recordings of what transpired. Upon being asked to leave, she refused and the individual whose room she was in became aggressive and physically threatened our security. We were left with no option but to call the police to assist and who eventually escorted her off the property. We understand that our female guests need to refresh themselves occasionally and we provide suitable equipped powder rooms in the public areas of the hotel for this said purpose. What an experience we had. We stayed at this hotel before in previous years, had bad experiences with the staff but the location still took us back, this time we're never going back.
We were quoted one price over the phone for our stay, but when we checked in we were quoted much more. The manager's words to us were "the staff didn't understand what you meant". Hello, what's wrong with this picture? How can she not understand when I explained that three people would be checking into an executive room that had a Queen size and & twin bed. This should be understandable.
I then paid their new rate for 2 nights with breakfast for 3, with a back up plan of checking out ASAP out of this dishonest environment.
When we checked into the room, the entire room was dirty with dirt, dust and boot marks, I called for housekeeping immediately to clean the entire room and change the linens, and bedspread which looked dingy. WHAT FILTH.
The patio, my God, what a mess, water leaking out of the air conditioner. There were leaves from trees as if no one cleaned it in weeks, the table and chairs, disgusting with dirt. I asked the housekeeper about the patio, she told me it wasn't her job, someone else needed to come and power blow the leaves of some sort. Guess what the person never came, even though I called and requested cleaning of the patio.
The next morning I was told the breakfast included rate can only be eaten in the restaurant, if taken to the room we had to pay for the entire breakfast all over again. WHAT A RIP OFF!!
I asked to speak with a supervisor, because this was something new management had initiated. We got no where with this, gave up and ate in the restaurant because I refused to pay for breakfast if it was already in the rate. Restaurant staff was robotic, unfriendly and watched your every move. Now breakfast is there for us to serve ourselves, however, staff insisted on taking out the breakfast as if they knew what you wanted to eat and the quantity you should eat. I had to yell at them to leave me to hell alone. They then allowed me to serve myself, but they moved the cutlery when THEY thought that you were finished.
That was the last straw it totally pissed me off seeing that I had paid 4 STAR money for a NO STAR hotel. I immediately went to the front desk told them I'm checking out and wanted my refund and will never be returning to this horrible place.
When getting my refund, they applied so much fees that I was not aware of which made me sick to my stomach, just wanted to get to heck out there. We checked into another hotel, paid much less for 2 rooms, enjoyed the tasty breakfast, and I surely enjoyed the rest of my 2 weeks in Trinidad.
My story to you is to read the reviews and make your own decision. Don’t say you have not been warned.

Weary worn and sad describes this place - staff and premises

The staff had absolutely no personablity and seemed half dead

The view from reception over the water is quite pleasant until you see the cranes and a kind of scrap yard to the right.
The reception furniture and sun beds are so grubby, The mattresses for the sun beds are hung over the beds when not in use and left out during torrential rain thus going mouldy and all stained along the bottom.

The dining room is so drab in decor and the tablecloths rarely see an iron. The staff are much too quick in removing cutlery etc from the table. On two occasions when I went to get toast or fruit my napkin and cutlery were gone when I returned to the table.

The stepsleading down to the corridor of the rooms facing the water are filthy too.

The bedroom and bed were clean but the patio was grubby and the tiles looked a bit tired and also no patio furniture. The small water boiler was under the counter in the bathroom and two people had to be very quick to get a shower before the water ran cold.
There was also an insect spray left in the bathroom - we heard another guest say he had about 20 insects in his room the previous night and got very little sleep. We didnt have but then we had taken our own precautions.

We had booked through hotels.com and had brought our invoice with us but the staff insisted it was the wrong price and were going to charge us more. We had lengthy discussions on this and they produced their office copy from hotels.com that quoted the same price we had but they still insisted. Eventually it was resolved as we were adamant we were paying the original price so be careful.

All in all give this place a very big miss - even the business traveller. We would be reluctant to stay at any other Cara Suites afer our visit to Trinidad

First of all, Alicia Cooper. Not only was my wedding wonderful, but you and your event staff made coming to Trinidad so worth it. You have been the most professional person I have dealt with and you really deserve some sort of bonus or promotion for how thorough you have been through this whole process.

Now, I will never stay at this hotel as a guest in the future. Maybe being from Canada, there’s a standard I expect, however, that’s not what I experienced. We had complaints from all of our out of town guests concerning their rooms being outdated, the housekeeping staff being rude to them because they didn’t leave the room to be cleaned and front desk staff giving wrong information and not seeming to correctly charge them. This was extremely embarrassing as I really was excited to show my overseas guests the beauty of my country but the the experience they received have deterred many of them from returning.

Finally, your general manager is the rudest most condescending person I have ever met at an establishment. What was definitely a misunderstanding due to not being given a formal confirmation at the reservation period, turned into the general manager attempting to give 5 of us guests a lecture on the dictionary definition of words and how what we interpreted the meaning of their terms. He constantly “shushed” us and I received numerous complaints about him from our wedding guests. He even validated his behaviour as saying he is WELL INTERNATIONALLY TRAVELED” and there was nothing wrong with what he said. Even after I was able to prove him wrong because the print out he provided us with contradicted what he said.

If it wasn’t for your general manager I would continue to refer other people to your hotel but I will be sending them elsewhere as a result. Fortunately, my wedding experience was not ruined due to Alicia and her team’s efforts.

Response from ThomHassel, General Manager at Cara Hotels
Responded Jan 2, 2019
Dear C_olamuyiwa, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback on your recent stay at our property. Let me firstly state that is very pleasing that we were able to successfully host the wedding ceremony and reception and also appreciative for the very positive comments related to the quality of service extended by our Events Executive and the supporting events team. It is always our objective to provide our valued guests, with a friendly, prompt and professional service however, based on your feedback shared we did not consistently achieve this based on your description of the interaction with members our housekeeping team, confusion with rates at checkout and moreover myself that may have negatively impacted the experience of yourself and some your overseas guests who stayed at the hotel. I would appreciate the opportunity to have further dialogue, as the outcome of my interaction was very much unintentional and stands very much at variance on how I approach my role and responsibility as a hospitality professional and how I represent this respected establishment, for this I am genuinely apologetic. Sincerely, Hassel Thom General Manager

I am generally not a fussy person, so when i write this review saying it was a disappointing experience, know that it has to be something below basic expectations of a paying guest.

I made my reservation in December 2015 at the hotel. I was greeted courteously by staff there, however the first thing that made me abit uncomfortable came as i was paying for my reservation. The hotel charged $692TT per night plus a further $300TT as a security deposit which brings my total to $992, to which I have no problem with. The concern came when the person asked to swipe $1000.00TT from my card, her reasoning beyond my understanding. If i were paying by cash I can understand if i paid that amount and got back $308.00 when checking out (upon the condition that nothing was used or taken from the mini bar or no damage done to anything in the room). However, i left that as something she probably found easier to do at the time and dismissed it.

A few days later, we arrived at the hotel, we were cordially greeted and upon checking in, I asked that someone check the mini bar to ensure that items that are supposed to be there, were there, so as to ensure upon checking out, the security deposit would be returned. Shortly after someone was sent to check the mini bar and one item was missing. I can't help but wonder if i didn't ask for someone to come check the mini bar, if i would have been made to pay for the missing item upon checking out. Again, i chose to overlook this as a small issue that was pleasantly rectified by staff.

Upon going through the room i noticed a generally clean area and a very welcoming letter that was personally addressed to me. Complimentary drinks were brought for my guest and I, which added to the nice welcoming touches Cara Suites extends. The views aren't spectacular, the room itself is well equiped with a flat screen tv, microwave, coffee/tea stand, desk and chair in room, iron and ironing board, in room safe etc.

I also noticed that the doors, weren't necessarily wholesome. The rear sliding door which lead to the balcony required abit of strength to close and be held in place so that it could be locked. The main door, (not the strongest or most solid wooden door) i believe should be of a different material to help keep out noise especially considering that the walkway in front of those rooms is designed in a way that sound reverberates quite abit.

The best part of the stay came the next morning for breakfast.
The restaurant's staff were superb, friendly, courteous, helpful, they truly brought a smile to us, the breakfast itself was delicious and very satisfying.

Then came the biggest upset. Whilst in my room with my guest, we heard a knock on the door to which i answered "I am coming". The person knocked again and before i could reply i heard the door open. Thank God, i had the chain on the door. Upon her opening the door and realizing there was a chain on it, i heard her say "oh, there is someone in here." I didn't have time to put on the necessary clothing before that door was opened. My girlfriend looked at me in shock and i returned the same look. The time i reached to the door, it was still ajar.

I was perplexed, wondering how in the world could such a thing happen? When i pay for a room at an established hotel, I expect a certain level of comfort and the highest amount of respect for privacy and security. Then a member of staff opens the door and completely removes all of those. To me, staff would know which rooms are occupied and which are vacant.

Needless to say i was more than just disappointed now.
Upon unchaining the door, i saw three women, one of whom came to check if the mini bar was fully stocked, while the others waited outside.

I believe accidents do happen but those things were completely avoidable!
It is safe to say we have agreed never to stay there again.
