We spent about a week here, It was by far the hi-lite of our trip. The staff is VERY accomadating and so pleasent.. The manager and owner is Eric, and he speaks english. which is very helpful for someone who has limited high school spanish. The building we stayed in was #201, it had airconditioning and a refrigerator. You could hear the ocean that was just steps from the door. What a great place to stay, I wish I was back there now.

What an amazing place to go and relax! During our 2 1/2 week stay in Ecuador this was the most laid back, revitalizing portion. It's right on the beach and only a short trip to the larger city. The rooms were very clean. All of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Would love to go back one day.

Dropped in early morning and needed a room for 2 nights. They had the suite above the restaurant available. Beautiful view of the ocean with a large balcony with a table 2 chairs and a hammock.
Large room which was clean with a comfortable bed. Room looked like it was newly renovated as eveything look new. They had problems with the water. They offered us a late check out but we had to leave for our journey back to Quito. Owners were very nice.

Isla del Sol used be one of our favorite places to stay on the beach in Esmeraldas. However, our third stay there in April 2014 turned into a real nightmare and became the worst experience of our six years expat stay in Ecuador: On the last night of our stay, our ten-years-old son went to the terrace around 9:30 pm to fetch his toys in order to pack our bags. When he re-entered the room he forgot to lock the door behind him. Five minutes later, three masked young men, each one armed with a pistol, entered the room (junior suite, right next to the beach). With their pistols aimed at our heads, they forced us to give them all our belongings. Scared to death, we gave them our laptop, cell phone, money, etc. They even took my entire travel bag which I had already packed as we wanted to leave early next morning after breakfast. Inmediately after the muggers had left, we called the local police which arrived 20 minutes later together with the hotel staff. While reporting to the police we had to find out that there was no security staff on duty that night. We wanted to leave this unsafe place right away, but driving back to Quito in the middle of the night after such a terrible shock seemed be too dangerous. But you can imagine how we spent the rest of the night in that hotel room...
In presence of the local police officers, Eric, the hotel manager, offered to see us early next morning at 7 a.m., as we hoped that the muggers had eventually left some of our belongings in the surroundings of the hotel (such as my clothes which might have been useless to them). So we expected Eric at 7 a.m., just to find out that he was still asleep (we could not sleep at all that night). Afterwards, he told us that the watchman had left about 15 minutes before the robbery happened in order to see his sick mother... without any replacement; Eric himself had gone to Atacames that night for some family business. Back in Quito, when we called Eric on request of our lawyer to ask for the last name of his watchman, he didn't even know his name... .
Our obvious conclusion is that this place is not safe at all and cannot be recommended to anyone! Six weeks after this terrible shock - apart from visiting the local radio station the next day to request the locals to bring back our stolen items ;-) the manager hasn't even contacted us to find out how we are (our son is still in emotional pain and would not sleep alone) or offer us any additional help, neither has he assumed any responsibility or liability whatsoever. Despite the fact that the muggery happened on his premises for an obvious lack of security, he would not act at all. So we had to bear the entire cost to rebuy all the stolen items, pay for the lawyer - and even pay the full amount for for our six nights stay at Isla del Sol, which Eric had charged us in advance. We are really shocked by so much carelessness - even by local standards!

Response from BcraftX, Manager at Cabanas Isla del Sol
Responded Jun 12, 2014
We are terribly sorry this event came to place, never in our history had anyone come in the hotel to rob or steal anything, and that it happened and went into your room was a complete shock to us all. We have done everything humanly possible to pressure the authorities to solve this case but have got not official response from them, all they say its under investigation and have no leads this far, but this is Ecuador, so. Unfortunately things that don't happen in a lifetime happen in two minutes, and any place in the world. But that's life, and we have come to terms with that. We have doubled our security efforts since and the authorities have said that they will be incrementing security in the beach as well. Our sincere heartfelt apologies to you and your family for this incident.

We came to Islas del Sol by walking along the beach after leaving another "cabaña" called El Acantilado (strongly not recommended) and stayed for 3 days in a beach-front cabin. The cabins themselves are great, small but with all the basics: hot water, air conditioning, TV, screens on windows. The location was perfect, right in front of the beach so we fell asleep to the sound of the waves. It's a bit far from the town area but its only about 1.5 miles along the beach to the supermarket and a bit closer to a couple other hotels with restaurants. The food at Islas is delicious, simple but yummy, and the pool area is well kept and clean. The whole place had a great feel to it, even in the off-season, and I highly recommend it to those who want to enjoy the beach in a simple, comfortable, relaxed place.

The place is a series of cabanas of varying sizes, some immediately on the beach and others a little set back. the entire place is laid-back, as beach cabanas would be. They are clean and comfortable. We had 2 cabanas, one right on the beach with A/C with 2 beds. The other was more like a camp cabin with 2 rooms, accommodating 6. It had a fan and was definitely more rustic. The owner Eric spoke English well and was very helpful, including arranging a fishing expedition for 3 of us, a lot of fun and fish in an open boat. It is quiet, especially compared to the beaches farther north (like Atacames). The food in the hotel was fine, not spectacular, but adequate. We went to the town for meals besides breakfast, even though meals were available. The resort is on the south end of Same Beach.

Hotel offers free tents, boogey boards and the service was fantastic!

The beach is very peaceful, clean and with very few people (basically a private beach!). About a nice 15 minute walk along the beach to the cobachas (food and drink huts - make sure to have some fresh piña coladas! BOMB!).

Eric speaks perfect English~ Originally we were a group of 5 but ended up in a group of 4. We arrived at midnight and our room was all set with 5 beds, went to talk to Eric the next day saying the 5th person wasn't coming and he said there was no problem and didn't charge us for the extra bed! He is very attentive and was so patient with us and all of our special requests!

The cabin had two rooms and a shared bathroom. There was a little kitchen a big refridgerator and one air conditioner for the whole cabin. We thought the air conditioner wouldn't be enough to cool the entire cabin but we were so wrong! We slept with both doors to the rooms opened and ended up turning the A.C. down in the middle of the night!

The cabins are a little old but well maintained and we were RIGHT ON THE BEACH! We literally, walked down 5 stairs and are on the beach. It was SO nice falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to them. We watched the sunset every evening!

Overall, wonderful place to stay, WiFi was good, great service and worth every penny!

Location couldn't be better, right in front of the beach. High tide the waves are maybe 30 feet from the front door. The place is perfect for a beach getaway. Simple, quaint, yet clean. A/C, hot water, en suite bathroom. What else could you possibly ask for. Food was a bit disappointing, there were only two things on the menu, shrimp and langoustines. And even then it wasn't that good. This didn't present a problem as there are a number of restaurants nearby. I did think it was a bit overpriced for what you get. I stayed at a far better place in Galapagos for half the price. Or u can rent a luxurious apartment in Casablanca for the same amount. I would recommend you call the place directly and make reservations, for if you reserve online they charge commissions and whatnot.

This place is amazing!!! I am already setting up the next visit with them. Hotel owners and staff fulfilled every need and more. They have great food, nice bar, beautiful landscape. It's the place to stay and enjoy the ocean, which by the way, you can't get any closer to the water. I really can't think of anything else that I would tell them to add or change, it's fantastic the way it is. The rooms are very neat and clean with one powerful remote controlled A/C, TV, hot water, nice size bathroom.
By the way the have hammocks, beach chairs, and beach umbrella free of charge, and best of all is the ocean view from the room.
It's just the place I was looking for. Trust me, just go and enjoy the place.

Eric (the english speaking owner) was fantastic !!! You had questions or wanted something, Eric was there for you. I don't think you could physically be any closer to the ocean. Very peacefull and relaxing location. It was also very nice to have air conditioning in your cabana. If you are in the area, it is worth checking it out.
