We returned to Hatari Lodge this year because of our pleasant stay there in 2021. It is closer to Kilimanjaro Airport than lodges in Arusha, so it is a convenient place for kicking off or ending a visit to Arusha National Park and places further afield in the region. This lodge offers you peace and quiet, being relatively small and intimate, You can indulge in the luscious meals, watch game in the marsh area below the lodge (enjoy sundowners on a small deck), or go on some excursions to Ngurdoto Crater, "Little Serengeti", the slopes of Mount Meru ( fascinating for their different vegetation zones) or to Little Momella Lake and Big Momella Lake fed by springs from Kilimanjaro. Mt. Meru is often clear, in plain view; on clear mornings you can also see Kilimanjaro. You do not have to leave the lodge grounds to see many browsing giraffes; naughty blue monkeys, vervet monkeys and colobus monkeys; mousebirds and other species; antelopes and buffalo. A leopard with a limp frequents the area around the lodge: watch out for her. The lodge specializes in organic and natural foods; the meals are sumptuous. You might be surprised by the offering of baobab juice, hibiscus juice in place of the usual soda drinks. The bar offers a good selection of local beers and South African wines. Try this out-of-the-ordinary retreat, enjoy the friendly and dedicated staff as well.…
Started our Safari here. Great beginning as the lodge is in the middle of the national park which means you’re able to watch wildlife from the terrace. On the first day a group of giraffes visited the lodge and didn’t bother the guets. Really nice staff and good food, too.
We traveled to Hatari with our 6-month-old infant and had a wonderful stay. The rooms/villas are amazing. There is so much space for us, and they even provided a pack-n-play crib for us! With our infant, we were looking to just relax, and Hatari was the perfect place for that since the animals are right outside our door! We loved the food and the service was exceptional. We could not have had a better stay!
I spend few days at Hatari Lodge and few at Shu’mata Camp- the both places are amazing!! Fantastic interior, absolute cleanliness, delicious food, friendly stuff - my experience was outstanding! I did safaris, had walking tours- happy with everything. Giving 10 of 10! Thank you, Inga
Hatari Lodge is wonderfully situated and, depending on the time of year, will welcome you with a nice fire situated in the dining room. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed, but we had no idea when we booked a stay here for three days they are leaning very heavily toward vegetarian and no meat except for possibly fish and if it's not good for you, we don't stock it. Very limited bar with no soda for mixers. Soda has sugar and that's bad for you so we'll make sure you can't have it. Ended up just getting our own in town:) Had to request sugar for tea/coffee or cereal as that's not on the table either because it's bad for you. We had some excellent soups and if we were vegetarian I have a hunch we would have appreciated the creativity of the chef and the kitchen. The lady who was the owner/in charge of the kitchen was rather huffy as she was put out we weren't vegetarian and they only make a store run once a week. She definitely was of the mindset our dining preferences should have been conveyed by our safari company. Maybe so, maybe not, but her demeanor didn't inspire the warm and fuzzies. The wine was very expensive and very limited selection. Rather than rely on the stock at the bar, I would say bring your own. The water bottle in the beds at night were a nice touch as was the evening fire. They did have robes we were able to use which was terrific when you wake up to a chilly morning. The place was okay, but a long way from my favorite just because of the items on the menu and what they served. Staff outstanding!…
Hatari Lodge is a real breath of fresh air, as it is unlike the other safari lodges and modern hotels in the Tanzanian tourist/safari circuit. The Lodge is actually an old farmstead with tropical gardens and a main building with a patio and deck overlooking a swamp area that fills with wildlife every day and evening. The accommodations are in cottages or in some guesthouses built in the style of the original farmstead. The furnishings are antique and "rustic". One has the feeling of being in an historic homestead far away from the world. Giraffes and vervet monkeys, and sunbirds, make the morning gardens a sheer joy. On clear mornings you can see the peak of Kilimanjaro. The staff are wonderful and friendly; the food is excellent; and the main building (bar, lounge, restaurant) is filled with memorabilia from the film "Hatari" with John Wayne. Overall, this is a lovely place to stay for a few nights and days at the beginning or start of your Tanzanian safari. There are really interesting excursions up the slopes of Mt. Meru, nearby craters, and the area called "Little Serengeti" which usually has buffalo, antelopes, zebras and other game browsing.…
Hatari Lodge is an amazing lodge, with beautiful landscaping to great you, cosy and very interesting African decor, and excellent food and service. The views are beautiful with Cape Buffalo and giraffes right there at the edges and monkeys on 'campus'.
Lovely property located in Arusha National Park. We were greeted upon arrival at 2300h w a hearty bowl of vegetable soup. The staff were warm and engaging. The meals are leaning to “farm to table movement”w lots of healthy vegetarian dishes. The chef came out to plan our safari lunch with us- which was delicious! The bedroom was well appointed and our fireplace was lit both evenings for us. Modern amenities are found throughout and the room was spotless. Verveine monkeys are found around the property. Giraffes come into the courtyard to munch on the acacia trees! In the morning and evenings Cape buffalo and zebras and giraffes gather in the fields 200 m from the boardwalk- and the occasional buffalo will wander through the courtyard. I would definitely recommend Hatari Lodge- it was worth the price of admission.…
The staff is extremly good and friendly. The Food was great. The trips were exceptional. We had a picnic by the waterfall an no other people besides us. like Paradies. A hike to the crater .Great trip.
We unfortunately fell in front of our lodge a glass down, the shards were not disposed of until the departure - but on the last night we were charged $ 7. Is not customer friendly - were also very angry about it !!!
