Okay, so here goes....this resort is a bit of a mixed bag. We enjoy the traditional Maldivian resorts that than those 5* Luxe resorts, hence our choice of this island. I will list my comments otherwise it may turn into a book! Our plane was late by over 2 hours but the airport rep for Eriyadu had arranged for the speedboat to come back for us....lovely guy. He also met us on return to the airport. Check In - received a cold towel and drink but wasn't given much information about the resort and some of it we couldn't understand - we were given opening times for everything and massage vouchers. Our room was 218 and it was a little tired, but large, new clean bathroom and room cleaned daily, so no probs. Room looked straight onto the Indian Ocean with a terrace and 2 loungers. There was a fridge, water and a kettle with unlimited supplies of coffee and tea. Free beach towels were supplied every other day (initially we got them every day, but then it changed) but some were so thin and had lots of holes in them, they would have been in the bin at home. Initially on AI board but upgraded to Platinum. No one seemed to know the cost of upgrade so had to go back 2 days running for someone to ask Management. Part of the upgrade was Platinum was a mini bar in your room, but we had to request this 3 times over a 10 hour period before it turned up. We requested a laundry bag that no one seemed to understand what we were requesting. Once we had sent our laundry to be washed we then had to chase its return on both occasions we used it. Btw laundry is free with Platinum, some people say they got theirs free on basic AI too! I came home with a suitcase full on clean clothes ready to hang up. No drinks were allowed on the beach, so you couldn't have a drink in a plastic glass or a can you had to drink your drink in the bar....shame when we had such a lovely view of the ocean. We weren't allowed to use the beach bar unless we paid for drinks - new management decision made couple of weeks before we arrived so earlier reviews about this bar are incorrect. So the resort had a bar man servicing the bar that no one used so he was on his phone all day! Premium AI gave you access to premium beers and drinks in the bar, but you could have a premium beer in the restaurant with your lunch/dinner but you could have spirits? Whose idea was this? Surely if you buy a premium drinks package it should cover the restaurant and bar?..... Our saviour was Enne at reception. She helped us no end and her English was good and she would sort things out straight away. We are normally people who never go to reception with queries, problems while on holiday but on this holiday we were there nearly every day. By contrast to the confusion that seemed to be across most services on the island when we went to the dive centre to hire some fins and also book a canoe, it was like stepping into a different world,,,,the guys knew their stuff and advised you... it was great. All the staff were lovely, and i always think it is a shame when the people doing the gardens etc don't feel they can speak to you, whether it is to say hello in their native language or in English. A big shout out to our room boy who looked after our room so well for us - unfortunately i didn't get his name, but he couldn't do enough to help us. Also a shout out to the guy who filled our mini bar. The restaurant had some lovely food, but most of the time the hot stuff was luke warm or cold. Once the restaurant was open the lids to the hot food were left open, which was a shame. The salads were also in open dishes and flies did sit in the bowls and also the sauces. We did have a meal in the bar and it was great to get hot food. It was just an utter shame that such lovely food was not kept warm in the restaurant. We were slightly alarmed one day when there was crashing on our roof and the guys were up the palm trees lopping off the dead branches and taking off some of the coconuts which were dropping right in front of our room. Maybe in future the rooms that were likely to be effected could be made aware for safety reasons. The reef was a little disappointing for us, comparing it to other islands we have been to with thriving reefs. On our very last night we went on the fishing trip. We have done a fishing trip before from another island and that one was a bit awkward when the crew of the boat were not getting on. Well it seems the awkwardness must happen on all fishing trips. The skipper of the boat directly told me off because i was putting fish on my hook, when nearly everyone else on the boat had done it. He also had an argument with one of the crew.......you could have cut the air with a knife. We were told we had to finish finishing and go back - we were all told to pack up, but a certain gentleman demanded he could carry on fishing, so they let him and we all had to wait! Talking about one rule for one and one rule for another, on our trip back to Male, our speedboat set off. About 7/8 minutes into the journey we saw the skipper on his phone, then we slowed down, turned around and went back to the island and had to wait to pick up 2 girls, who got on with no luggage so assume they were workers? Not sure if we would return even though there are lots of good things about this island but also quite a lot of confusion amongst staff (not their fault) which starts to grate a bit. …
