Get away from it all at LUX* South Ari Atoll (formerly LUX* Maldives), the only settlement on the postcard-perfect island of Dhidhoofinolhu. Fuss free and laid-back, the resort surprises with pop-up cinema screenings right on the beach, impromptu musical performances and strolls along secret pathways through the lush tropical gardens. Just steps from the thatch-roofed suites and ocean-perched villas, the island's unspoilt beaches are yours to claim. A prime spot for snorkelling and whale-shark spotting, the resort's unblemished lagoon is a diver's dreamworld. Back on land, island street food and fine dining await in the tempting restaurants and bars. In the shade of coconut palms, lounge by the two turquoise pools, luxuriate in the ocean-view spa and surrender to the charms of this castaway idyll.

After one review in October 2018 already, I have visited LUX* again since then. There are three things that still make LUX* be number 1 on the resorts I have visited in the Maldives so far: 1) you won't feel bored even though the island is very long. There are interesting things to see when you stroll from East to West (the telephone booth, the JunkArt Gallery, the Coconut on the way, the Wanderlust Library at the end and so on). Numerous Instagrammable objects all the way. The East Market toilet is - spoiler alert! - perhaps the most unique in the world. 2) The food is amazing. Kudos to all the chefs, the whole F&B department - as a vegetarian I never felt bored. I have tried MIXE and East Market restaurants. Of course East has a lot of Meat and Fish, so not the ideal place for a vegetarian, yet I was always satisfied eating there. 3) The staff are usually what makes a resort really stand out against the others. Especially the evenings in MIXE became more and more fun till the end of my stay. I'm probably the biggest fan of the band IslaMusikka, especially when they play at MIXE. All the waiters at MIXE are charming and welcoming; it would be unfair if I mention only some names that I remember and not all. Even after a long working day at 10pm they were in a good mood! Thank you to the entire LUX* team, for welcoming me back again. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to be back rather sooner than later!

My wife and I spend a few days at the LUX South Ari Atoll to celebrate her birthday. From the moment we arrived at the airport in Male we had the most amazing time. Beginning with the arrival experience, the Lounge at the Seaplane port offered a wonderful atmosphere to relax after the long haul flight to Male and before boarding the Island hopper. Arriving on the island was second to none. The seaplane touched down just steps away from the beautiful white beaches of the resort where a warm welcome by the team members, led by General Manager Jonas Amstad, was given. Elena checked us in in record time and escorted us to our Ocean Villa with private pool, which was highly personalised to our needs. Although the Ocean Villas are built close to each other, the retaining walls in between them are tall enough so that you do not lack any privacy. Moreover, you can fall out of bed in the morning and right into the crystal clear waters of the Indian ocean where you are being greeted by an abundance of colourful sea-life. Simply stunning. Food & Beverage offerings throughout the resort were great. Excellent cuisine in all the restaurants we visited with a wide variety of culinary options to chose from. Again, the resort team takes extra steps to make sure guests are extremely well looked after and can enjoy to their fullest. Our favourite was breakfast. As a well traveled couple and having worked in the industry for many years, we know what it takes to provide such an extensive breakfast buffet. Although we stayed during the rainy season, the few showers we experienced were refreshing and welcome. Considering the remote location of the resort, it has a bundle to offer for any kind of traveler. Snorkelling with whale sharks, a small but well stocked beach library featuring books in a multitude of languages, a photography studio, great spa and "trash arts" studio, to name just a few. Service is impeccable and the staff truly takes care of everything you need while at the resort. We would come back any time.

I dont even know where to start with the island but perfect and paradise would be a start. My partner and I booked this island for his 40th Birthday. As it was his 40th I wanted to ensure his day was perfect and I contacted the customer service team to see what they could do to support me. Sarah was so informative and really helped me, even with all the questions I had. I booked the dinner on the beach and it was truly perfect, my partner didnt even guess this is what we would be doing as all the staff knew but never made it obvious even when we were booking into the other restaurants for the other nights. The island is picture perfect and they have gone to so much trouble to do the small things like the seats in the water and the wishing tree, there is so much to see and do and we loved the free snorkelling trip but you must try the whale shark snokelling because that was once in a lifetime. The food is incredible and all inclusive is worth it. Each restaurant is different and I wouldn't want to choose as each person is different. One thing that puts this holiday above all others is the staff as they go over and above and nothing is too much, from changing the mini bar so it stocks enough diet drinks to Irakyll who from the moment we got off the seaplane was so attentive, nothing was too much and the detail he went to for my partners 40th was incredible and we cant thank him enough. You wont regret booking this and no photo will do this island justice as seeing is truly believing here. We are already looking at coming back over New year in 18 months time.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Lux, Just want to highlight some stuff 1. Always worried there will be insufficient drinking water if one is not on an all inclusive package. Had nothing to worry about. They replenished the 2 bottles of 1.5 litres water in room daily and there are plenty of fruits infused water everywhere on the island 2. I was on half board basis and dinner was awesome at the Allegria restaurant. Go for the grilled octopus, truffle risotto, grilled barramundi. The chocolate tart mentioned on menu is actually molten lava cake and it was fantastic. I read some reviews that raves about senses restaurant. While it was pretty good, I wasn’t exactly wowed by it. Hailing from Singapore, we have plenty of Indian food options here so it isn’t that interesting to me. 3. The food isn’t really priced that expensively considering that you have to ship the food in and all. A normal burger meal would cost about 29usd? (Before 10% service charge and 12% gst) I would say just go for the half board option would be sufficient. If you are one that prefers 3 course in all meals, then the full course will be your best bet. We did not take the all inclusive package as we do not drink much, just the occasional drink or two during dinners. Plus we were gifted a champagne bottle as a honeymoon gift from the resort. ( which we did not even manage to finish) The drinks are not priced expensively as well perhaps under 20usd for a cocktail or wine. Go for happy hour at the east bar from 5.30 to 6.30. They offer one for one! You can even play board games over your drink. 4. For breakfast, we preferred the east market over mixe restaurant. The stir fried noodles at east market is pretty legit! Had 2 bowls of that every morning! I really loved their pastries as well! All freshly made in the morning! The sourdough bread was one of my favourites too! 5. There was plenty to do during our 4 days 3 nights stay and lots of photogenic points to take photo from! The house reef snorkelling was fun but I found the water murkier than I would have expected. When we went for snorkelling during the whale shark searching trip ( chargeable), I found the reefs much nicer, it was on another side of the island. Too bad we didn’t manage to catch any whale shark on our trip. 6. One qualm I had was that there were barely any fishes swimming around our water villa, there was no much point to snorkel around there. Plus the tide was usually too high during waking moments unless you are willing to wake up really early to go down and take a dip. Thankfully we had our own pool in the villa. Would definitely recommend to get the romantic pool water villa over the water villa. The water villa was located on the far end of the island and we barely saw anyone going down to the sea. 7. Our water villa was located to the further end of the row of water villas, hence we had to walk quite a bit, approximately 7 min from the reception area. There are no buggies that will fetch you to your room, but you can rent a bicycle (5usd a day) or a motorcade (50usd a day). When buggies ( used by staff) went past our rooms, it can be a little noisy, but they mostly do it during the day only so doesn’t really affect our sleep. 8. One can see signs of ageing in the rooms, though the staff have definitely kept it clean during our stay there. Twice room service a day! They did not however replenish the used amenities, which was not really an issue for us. Would probably try Lux north ari atoll in future!
