We have stated at Madoogali no less than four times. It is a wonderful island if you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all. It is not fancy but there are around 56 stand-alone bungalows, No over the water bungalows so the beautiful reef is has not been ruined. Snorkelling is fantastic only a few meters from the beach. I think you will find this is one of the most natural Islands in the Maldives. There are no vehicles on the island so it is perfect for young children. Our children were there as babies and the last time we were there our son 9 years old. They have the usual, Spa for massages, a dive centre, fishing trips and water sports. There is one restaurant and bar. The staff are also wonderful and very friendly. I highly recommend Madoogali if you are looking a beautiful relaxing holiday but not if like a fancy upmarket hotel with all the bells and whistles.

I was with my family in december during the xmas period. The rooms were clean but a bit run down due to lack of proper maintenance. Was in room 22 and water leaked into the room during rains. Room boy service was excellent. Food was very basic with a small buffet, but the waiters and kitchen was good enough to provide the kids with finger foods and kids meals. All in all good

We went here for our honeymoon, because we were looking for something mid-range. This one comes with quiet bungalows on the beach, none of the type that juts into the sea. It's a short flight away from Male airport via their plane taxis. The island is small enough to walk around in an hour, and the buffet is nice. The sand is great for sunbathing, and you get to feed small sharks at night. Food is great with local fare, and staff patient and friendly. We also took day trips to the neighbouring island to see native houses, and for fishing. The snorkelling was wonderful, with fishes even close to the beach. We had a great time, no regrets about choosing this island.

1st time in maldives, very beautiful small island, great beach all around, bungalows also all around the island, located almost at the beach, each bungalow has its own path to the beach, not crowded at all, you can find your own spot at the beach at any time, good home reef, food is very good, i recomend all inclusive package, drinks at the bar are quite expensive if you want peace, sun and warm water, then it is your place! Diving center is small and great, each day only 4-5 divers, they take you to non crowded places, Leader of the diving center (Axel) is very profesional and it was great to dive with him and with others from the center. We saw sharks, swim with mantas,...great, easy dives , just visibility wasnt so good beacuse of the plancton, but where the mantas are is also the plankton :) Domen, Slovenia Recomended! stay from 27.1. - 6.2.2014

General description from other review mostly true with some details from my side. I visited the hotel with my friend during NY eve. We made only snorkeling. What is good/bad at this resort: 1) fringing reef is nice, just in the water but corals are starting to bleach, lots of dead corals, during low tide the upper side of corals are above the water. 2) fish very often scares of people, does not allow to come closely for photos. if You will feed them with sweet bread You will be not too frightened. 3) recommend to visit desert island - there are corals in better conditions but not so many fish there - the side with sun chairs is better for snorkeling. Recommend to be ready for boarding in hard conditions on the return way - we had a problem with it as the boat could not come closer to the beach and we needed to walk by dead sharp coral with strong current (a child of ten years old even could not stand without help) till the level of 1.5 meter - not for everybody challenge. 4) manta ray watching - the way of watching offered by the staff was unappropriated. they drop us behind the manta with recommendation not swim to them quickly because the faster You will come to manta the faster they will go away. but how to get the manta if they dropped us behind mantas - it was unsolved issue for all of the visitors. Only my friend was lucky to take a close look of manta as he rejected to jump in the water after permission and waited till the boat came to manta closer and just got in the water under the manta. All others were fully exhausted by continuously working by fins and watched only shadows of mantas. 5) bungalows - it's good that they are separated. they have special external facilities for washing and drying swimming gear - we appreciated it very much. But they need to reconstruct them - walls and floor have a lot of cracks, tiles are in bad condition, very old and cheap looking. It is the main reason why the shower is ugly looking. The dust and spots are on all surfaces - see my photos. There is no network connection for Internet in bungalows but we had a spider net on the lamp )))) The electronic equipment are obligatory for replacement. Our fridge was corroded but at least made cooling while air conditioner worked so badly that we couldn't breath normally (putting at the temperature at 17C did not solve the problem - even my chewing gum was melted). Other guests more luckier - their conditioners worked but their children coughed - it means the split systems probably were never cleaned. 6) sleeping condition - be ready to be awaken at 4 o'clock in the morning by birds screaming. They will be scream till 7 o'clock - the time when You will get up for the breakfast - closed windows, noise from the fan and air-conditioner will not dampen these lacerating sounds - as a result - I saw some of birds with broken legs - after 5th night I was ready to kill them all because even earplugs didn't help to sleep - You are just laying on the bed, sweating and listening to these awful sounds (it's louder and worse than peacock scream).

We visited Madoogali begin October 2013. We really enjoyed our stay at Madoogali. Accomodation is clean and sufficient, although not luxurious. Food at the restaurant is OK. We just stayed for a couple of days, and can imagine the served food may become a bit monotone if staying for a week or 2 weeks, but for shorter trips surely not a problem. We enjoyed some cocktails at the beach bar, well made and friendly waiter there. We also enjoyed the shark feeding show there in the evening. The snorkelling around Madoogali is really great. Plenty of fish and corals, also turtles an sharks to be viewed on the housereef. There are several remarks on the site regarding the best villa's, and it's certainly true that some villas have a larger beach in front of the door, while other's have next to none, I would'nt be overly concerned if appointed a villa with not much beach in front, at least not if you are there to snorkel. We found the snorkeling to be best in front of the villas without beach, and the reef is easier to cross there, so you can get to the "drop" and make your way around from the outside of the reef. The waiter in the restaurant appointed to our table wasn't the friendliest guy around. The other staff at the hotel were friendly enough. The trip to the island with a seaplane is also a very nice experience. If your main purpose of the trip is snorkelling, then I'd highly recommend Madoogali.

We stayed at Madoogali from 30th of January 2013 to 6th of February for a week. Ir was a wonderful and mind-blowing experience. Absolutely sequin, secluded and relaxing this hotel is a wonderful choice both for young and for older couples.Particularly wonderful reef and a good service. Rooms well-maintained, although one still notices that they need some rennovation soon. I wouldn't neccessarily recommend the hotel for familiies with children above 4 as it might be somewhat boring for the younger ones, but a very good choice for feeding parents. We attended SPA on one of the last days and it was an awesome experience! Food always well cooked and tasty, although the variety is somewhat limited. Each room gets a personal table with its personal waiter. Ours was above all hights. Even on the day of our depaarture he was there at 5.15 am to indulge us with fresh bakery and coffee. Thank you Madoogali and will come back one day!

Madoogali is awesome. It is a small island in the north west of Ari Atol. Island with a reasonable size , human scale. It s a small paradise luxuriant, quiet, well served and represent by local people. Food is fresh and excellent. The place to be to dive if you are a diver or simply if you just want to enjoy scuba diving on the reef. Our room was n 34 it is the place to choose your room between n30-40: front of the best place to subs dive. Avoid room above 48 to 55 a lot of bags full o sand to protect the beach... The padi dive center deserve his 5 stars it is a must with people talking many language ( we enjoy speaking French). To go to madoogali two advices use the hydra air craft from male to madoogali and to transfer from Europe to male avoid Sri Lanka and take Qatar airways through Doha or etihad through Abu Dhabi. This was our second trip in Maldives and we recommend madoogali for people enjoying diving.

Beautiful island with well maintained vegetation and very relaxing atmosphere. The house reef is outstanding and this island is a true high light for snorkeling and diving. No man made walls or water bungalows obstruct the authentic island feeling. Rooms are spacious, clean and simple. Rooms have good location and beach access with maybe the exception of the rooms with numbers in the fifties. Staff is friendly and food is of very good quality. The sunset deck of the veli cafe is a true marvel. The staff in the water sport center is very helpful and competent, the equipment is OK. The wildlife in the water around reef is outstanding lots of fish and some sharks, mantas, dolphins and turtles.

I would not recommend this island for honeymooners but it is a great place for travelling with friends / family. The snorkeling is excellent. You will see plenty of wildlife, some small and harmless white tip sharks, turtles, rays, ... The diving centre is OK. Equipment could be better. Staff is great like every staff on this island btw. But diving with 20 other divers is not my best souvenirs. I prefer smaller diving centre. The restaurant is a buffet the evening, nothing special here. Lunch was for me terrible. That was the main weakness of our week there. The rooms are standards but quite big and comfortable. The beach is pretty narrow but beautiful. You will see the fishes will reading your book. Great. And you don't suffer that much from the proximity of the other guests even if the island was fully booked when we where there. Like most hotels in the Maldives, the journey looks to me quite expensive for what you get - it is not a 4 stars hotel - but that's the way it works here.
