The beauty of the islands that make up the Maldives live up to all that has been written about them. The blue lagoons and dazzling white beaches fringed by swaying coconut palms challenge the scope of any camera, and Dhuni Kolhu is said to be the most stunning of them all. Located in Baa Atoll, 124km from Male’ international airport, and easily reached by a 30 minute seaplane flight or a domestic flight followed by a short speedboat ride, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu captures tropical magic in abundance, beautifully balancing the island’s bountiful vegetation with the resort’s architectural charisma. Inspired by the flourishing sea life and local customs, the resort has been built in harmony with the natural environment. Guests have their own luxury villa, either dotted among palm trees offering peaceful tranquility or on stilts over the lagoon, with spectacular views of the ocean and nearby desert islands. Wood, rattan and cotton furnishings complete the picture of laid-back tropical elegance. The 32 Beach Villas, 25 Sunset Beach Villas, and 27 Deluxe Villas have a Maldivian charm and paradise appeal, whilst the 12 Lagoon Villas offer a refined experience of exclusivity and indulgence. The 2 Sunset Lagoon Villas feature the height of luxury with a separate bed- and living room, Jacuzzi, and wide sundeck with private pool. There are two relaxed bars and a choice of tantalizing dining options, both indoor and outdoor under a canopy of Banyan trees. For the more adventurous, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu has a variety of Uniquely Coco experiences on offer, including private overnight stays at a near-by deserted island, snorkeling excursions with the resident Marine Biologist to swim with Manta Rays and Sea Turtles, sandbank picnics, scuba diving, island hopping, and sunset fishing. Relaxation can be found at Coco Spa where guests can experience Asian-inspired treatments or participate in Yoga lessons at the beach. Creatively conceived and superbly designed to blend into the natural environment, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is the ultimate authentic Maldivian hideaway.

We just came back from our Honeymoon at Coco Palm. At the beginning we were very skeptical about the 'resort life' because we are definitely not the people who love the 'sleep-eat-repeat' type of life. We also -luckily- traveled through Philippines, Mexico, Hawaii and saw very vivid and colorful coral reefs. So we are initially turned off by some reviews talking about the 'weavy sea', the bleached house coral reef etc but at the end we had a great time and we also felt this was the max amount we wanted to spent for a resort type of experience. Good to know: VILLAS: we initially booked a deluxe villa with the pool because we thought it was better to stay in front of the house reef. At the arrival we were informed that we were temporally moved to a sunset villa (n17) on the side where the sea plane lands and it was a blessing. The sunset villas have much more privacy and natural light although they are a little bit far from the water (like 20 meters?!). Our housekeeper Raju was incredible and he always took care of our water and towels. For the last 2 nights we were moved to our original deluxe villa (n.65) but we were not a huge fan: the pool is good only if really cleaned or if you have kids.. there is less natural light and from our bungalow we could hear our neighbor's kids. What was beautiful was the turtle nest just 1 meter from our beach chairs :) otherwise the villas are pretty identical. HOUSE REEF: if you are an experienced snorkeler you might not be 100% happy about the house reef. Don't get us wrong! Also in the worst conditions we saw turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks and a grey shark! Soo many nice fishes but the corals are pretty bleached everywhere. EXCURSIONS: experiences are pretty pricey for they are especially if you consider that turtle and reef excursions go to the same reef (35min by boat). The only experience that was worth the money was the Manta one. We saw only a majestic male that stayed around for about 45 minutes (not what you see on Instagram) but it was still a beautiful experience. The boat crew is good at spotting animals and one day on our way back to the island, they let us stop to play with 50 dolphins! it was the best moment ever. FOOD: we opted for half board and both breakfasts and dinners were nice and there was variety. We tried both the BBQ at the main restaurant and the one at the Conch bar and we definitely loved the one at Conch bar (sea food only) the most because it seemed fresher. We appreciated that the staff was reminding guests about the use of the masks but still every day the same 4 people were getting food without the masks. I am sorry the staff had to experience this scene. SPA: the spa was one of the best spa experiences we've ever had. My husband tried the deep tissue massage, we had the couple massage and the Balinese massage, I'd suggest the couple massage. Bring your phone because the setting is super cute and romantic (we forgot it!). Our therapists were incredible and the atmosphere was magical. STAFF: the resort staff was super super kind and helpful. We had some communication issues at the beginning but then we understood that we had to talk to the right people. Thanks so much Eleonora, Emily and Karim! The resident vet Minnie and the biologist Rosalie were great at explaining things about corals and animals to us. The crew at the restaurant was also very attentive and caring. We are grateful to Sundar from the Conchbar for his kindness. When the seaplane was delayed by 1 hour we were offered some fresh drinks and it was great. WHAT WE LOVED: good value for money, eco-friendly island, no tall buildings and every house was hiding in the jungle that was not an artificial forest. We loved also that the majority of guests were 'normal' (not fancy/posh) people and you could chat and have nice time together. WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE TOO MUCH: the coffee at breakfast, the bleached corals, and lack of a clear schedule about 'mini-island events' like the talk about the turtles and corals. Other guests told us about that but the best format would be a poster with all the weekly schedule for entertainment and food. Prices for excursions and spa are a little bit high. We'll come back to Maldives but we will look for atolls where the corals are struggling less but we heard it's pretty much bleached everywhere due to climate change and it's not the same coral reef Maldives had 10-20 years ago. Thanks Coco Palm staff!

Wa had our stay in december during christmas and over all, our stay was nearly perfect. The island is really great and a lot of nature is it should be - natural. Ther e are a lot of birds, geckos and crabs all around, and they are not annoying at all but very funny to watch. The sunrise side of the island has a great colorful house reef compared to other housreefs in the Maldives but there were always a few waves on this side, but snorkeling was always possible for us. At the sunset side of the island there were no waves at all, but we haven’t been snorkeling there. The bungalow was a nice little home for us with a open air bath and toilet. The bed was hard but really perfect for me. My wife likes it a bit softer but she could also sleep very well. The spa was amazing. We had three massages. Bali Massage, Loomi Loomi Massage and the Journey to Maldives. Everyone of them was really really good and they did exactly what we were asking for. The Olive Ridley Project with its turtles and medical work was really interesting. We have been there almost every day and finally adopted a turtle. The staff there explained everything they are doing for saving the lives of the turtles we appreciate that a lot. We also went diving with coco dive. The captain of the boat was, let’s say, not the best. He wanted us to swim 30 Meters against the current after a dive to pick us up or was driving really fast towards us, after ascending, so we were not sure, if he had seen us. But the guides also recognized that and immediately told him, what to do and what not to do. The boat crew was helpful and did the best they could. There were some really interesting dive sites, also the visibility was not the best at that time, the guides showed us everything we wanted and even more. My 100. dive was at manta point and we had nurse sharks, napoleon fisch, mantas and a lot of small things like nudibranches…. At the evening at the bar, i wasn’t expecting that, is got a certificate of achievement for my 100. dive, which was a really surprising nice gesture of the dive center and the guides. The restaurant and food was fantastic. Always fresh, a lot of different thing to eat and explore. The staff was always polite and friendly. Everyday we had a warm welcome and were seated at the table we asked for. Over all, one of the best restaurant and food we had within the last 3 years seven times in maldives. Also the moonlight beach bow dinner was fantastic and worth the extra cost. Things that could have been a bit better: Wifi was failing a few times. Whe you are uploading photos, this was sometimes annoying. We were asking a few thing to the front desk, e.g. that the save in our villa wasn’t working properly, but it wasn’t fixed until we were leaving. The manager showed up a few times, just to ask if everything is fine and for a little smalltalk. Also a really friendly nice and polite person to talk to. Even though the island was fully booked, you felt almost alone. I don’t know, where all the people were, but only in the restaurant we had seen a few people. The rest of the time, the island was a quiet relaxing place. Exactly what we were looking for. Overall, this was the best holiday we could expect in maldives so far and thinking about our next holiday on Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu again. But there are a few people to mention, that made our holiday soooo good. Dive Center: Osman: a really nice guide and person. We had the most dives with him and every dive was great. We were asking for slow relaxing dives to take photos and he did a great job. Relaxing, reliable and a real professional. Also outside the water we had a really great and funny time. Marco: Mosts of the time he was guiding other divers but underwater and overwater we had a great and funny time with him. He was also a real professional always caring, that the divers will get the best dives. Spa: All the ladies did a great job. Unfortunately we haven’t write down their names and don’t remember (really sorry for that). They were doing exactly what we were asking for. The Massages of all of them were fantastic. Best massages we had. All four of them were friendly, polite, relaxing, and hab amazing massage skills. Restaurant: A big thank you to the 2 women (from Maldives and maybe Thailand?), that were seating us every morning, lunchtime and evening. They did a great polite job and talking to them was always a pleasure. Also thanks to the waitress (woman from Thailand) wo always had fun serving and helping us. These three women made our stay on the island even more great. Nothing more important than happy friendly people every time you a going to the restaurant. We haven’t wrote down their names and can’t remember the exact writing. (So sorry for that) Olive Ridley Project: Dr. Minnie Liddell and staff were always there answering our questions and showing us the injured and rescued turtles. Housekeeping: Mamoon: Our roomboy did a great job. He was happy and friendly and we had a lot of fun with him. He also organized so stuff to wash our underwater camera and everything we were asking. one of the best from boys in Maldives. Wasim: he showed us the garden und introduces us the gardener. He showed and answered every question and was a really friendly nice guy. The Gardener: He was always there making some amazing things out of coconuts, palm leafs and other thing. A bracelet for my wife, a fish and rod for me…. Also we could taste the coconut flower drink. A great refreshing drink, only available in the chefs garden. A really nice guy. Charly: The sun conure, always flying around the island. We have met him in the spa, in the garden, in the restaurant and the Olive Ridley. Such a beautiful nice little bird, that always made us laugh a lot. Thanks to all the people, we forgot to mention and everyone else working in the background, for making our stay so amazing. You all did a great job and made our holidays 10/10.
