The staff was always friendly and helpful. I have not experienced a single incidence where a staff member was grumpy or not willing to help. I would like to point out a really remarkable example of how customer oriented the resort is: As the resort is only accessible by an inland sea-plane flight from Male airport, I was worried that I would have a long stay over at the Male airport before the connecting flight. I communicated this clearly with the resort beforehand. The resort organized a flight wich departed only 1,5 hours after my arrival. The plane took me to an neighbouring island from where I was picked up by one of the resort-boats. So the first day of my say was not at all lost. On arrival I was greeted by Silvia and it took me not long to shake off all my worries and uneasiness which I brought from dark and cold Euorope. In fact only a look from the pier into the clear water was enough to get me into holiday mood (as I saw squids swimming casually about). On the day of my departure my international flight form Male to Doha was departing at like 9 pm. So I was again worried to arrive too early at the airport in Male. But here again the resort staff organized the latest possible flight for me. (4 pm) So I was able to enjoy the last day of departure with full service, I was even allowed to stay in my room as long as I liked to. To me this was an unusually generous gesture. Also there was no Corona-discomfort. Guests were expected to wear masks in the restaurant during meal times. But there has never been any pressure from the staff. Guests were naturally grown up enough to follow the rules without any authority. The rest of the island usually felt deserted and I had the beaches for myself, so no masks needed, only the snorkel mask. There were not many guests on the island so some trips (like the snorkelling trips) were basically organized for me alone… this was also a great and generous gesture as this was certainly not profitable for the resort. But it shows a great dedication to serve the guests! Bungalow I had a Beachbungalow. I was quite lucky that over Easter my neighbouring bungalows were empty. On the day of my departure a family with what felt like a dozen children, moved into the bungalow next door and it really got loud and hasty. The bungalow was situated well in the shade of palmtrees. The backside of the island is mostly exposed to a breeze from the Ocean, which made it really comfortable. Also the beach was a must see, as there were shark-puppies swimming up and down in the shallow crystal clear waters (the lagoon looked like a bit pool). Sometimes even a big blotched fantail ray swam by. So I think the beach bungalows do have their charm compared to the water villas. But again, I had no neighbours. Reef For me the most important reason to go to the Maldives is neither the food nor the service. I come for the Fish, the real deal! The corals around Athuruga are mostly dead and devastated. Only at some really remote spots within the lagoon and at the outside reef I was able to find life corals but your required to be a really good swimmer to reach these spots. However the fish life was there, and in abundance! What intrigued me more was the jetty though. Depending on the tide of the day I was able to find small black tips, squids, nurse sharks, rays or octopi at the jetty. In the Reef you can pretty reliably spot one of like 3-4 turtles. Its only a matter of being in the water often. I really need to mention though that Athuruga is running a unique project. The resort supports a German Biologist: Inga. She is researching the growth of corals and works out ways to help recover the corals which were lost during the El Ninjos 2015/2016. If you get lucky enough to chat with her you will quickly notice that she is determined to make a difference. And it is good to see that those people are still around. And that the resort is providing a great base for her research. Really this is outstanding. The Resort is not only interested in making profit out of the corals but tries to help them recover by supporting –what I know to be- the only serous research on the field. I didn’t know this before I came to Athuruga. But if I did, it would have made my decision to pick a resort easier. Also – this has nothing to do with the resort itself but for a diver it might be the most important factor – there is a dive school located on the island, run by I-Dive. It’s a dive school with 2 instructors which offer English, Italian and German as far as I know. Equipment was well maintained. The dives are well guided. Briefings are good and the boat staff knows what they are doing, from my experiences. Because I came during a really bad time, I was only able to dive once a day. Basically the boat of the dive center was broken so they had to share a boat with the resort, which was partly used to pick up guests and for other excursions. But it worked out. And in return I was sometimes the only diver on the boat (besides the instructor) and this was kind of cool! (but by all the diving I do at remote locations I am also kind of used to this, just in the Maledives this is really not a normal thing) I can only say that the dive spots I went to were world class and absolutely amazing! The diving was a great mix of current, reef and magnificent marine wildlife! Athuruga is generally situated well to reach many good spots in the South Ari atoll! Food Well the food was amazing! Nothing to complain about here! Not at all!!! The focus is on Sea Food. Of course mostly Tuna (what else it’s the Maledives) but because Fish are my friends I refused to eat anything from the ocean. But there was still a lot to choose from. Pasta and often Beef, Chicken, Fruit and so on. The fruits were always sweet and perfectly ripe. The Steaks were always done perfect! Because of Corona there was no buffet. Instead you could watch the chefs prepare the food in “life action”. This required some waiting but also was cool because you got it literally out of the pan. The drinks in the bar were super amazing and done professionally. Best ingredients always. To put it all in a nutshell, my stay was a really good one and I am glad I picket Athuruga. In these times of Corona-Hype and bad weather, I really enjoyed this holiday. The only bad thing… is that hellish sunburn on my back which still pains me. ;-)

Our family (4 adults) spent Xmas and New Year here. It was amazing! We loved every single minute of it and even extended our stay. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom water villas which was perfect. The staff, both local and international bent over backwards for us ensuring our stay was perfect. The house reef is great and the breakfast on our terrace every morning was so special. The yoga classes by Klaudia are excellent and Krzysztof, Sylvia and Farouq looked after us like royalty. We’ve been to the Maldives several times and this Island really has something special.

Everything about Arthuruga and the amazing diamonds team is world-class. From the second you disembark the TMA seaplane and take in a beautiful setting you start to unwind. Things we loved: 1. The hospitality, every single member of the team went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Particular mention to Silvia who knew how special this trip was for us and made sure it delivered beyond our expectations, the i-dive team who took my son through his PADI course (and wowed at the karaoke), and Hussein who worked so hard to make sure we finally saw the mantas. 2. The water villa was magical, my teenage kids enjoyed their beach bungalows but chose to hang out on the deck enjoying my Wi-Fi and minibar all day, every day. 3. The food, with the normal buffet style restricted by the Covid safety enhancements, the chefs put on a great array of alternatives which were all individually plated and served. The drinks were great too, all-inclusive covered absolutely everything we wanted throughout our stay. The only meal that wasn’t as amazing was breakfast but even then, having it delivered to your private deck to enjoy looking out over the ocean made up for the fact that the sausages weren’t quite what we are used to! 4. So much to do. We really enjoyed the snorkelling, the reef was badly bleached a number of years back but Inge (the marine biologist) is working hard to encourage new growth with her coral nursery. The spa was heavenly. We also took a few trips out to see the wildlife and do some fishing - all great fun. Top tips- Don’t worry about dodgy weather forecast, the rain storms are fun and the clouds seem pass and leave plenty of time to work on the tan. I was in WV 15 which was on the sunset side towards the end of the boardwalk, very private. WV 21 on that side would be the nearest to the water villa restaurant and channel across the reef if that matters to you. Beach bungalows one and two were nearest to the main restaurant and the boardwalk out the water villas. We took our own fullface snorkel is but sanitised flippers, masks and snorkels are provided. Travelling in a Covid world may be a bit scary but with the Maldive‘s you know that everyone on the plane has had a negative test and once you arrive the staff bear all the burden of the precautions so that you can almost forget that it is an issue.

We have spent the first week of January in this Resort and everything was definitely terrific! Starting from the welcome made by Silvia and Kris, who literally made us feel home, then the room which was very good curated by our room attendant and of course the amazing cusine with the fresh fish. We also enjoyed the snorkeling activities and the excursions. Everybody were very professional and always keep an eye about what you need. I thanks another time Silvia for her attitude and her availability during our stay! Thank you to all the staff! We will definitely come back :)

Wonderful little island, as you would expect paradise to look like. Great for diving, snorkeling or simply relaxing. Facilities great, food amazing, and staff super hospitable (like being at home).
