We are just returning from a 2 week vacation at Adaaran select Meedhupparu. I want to give an unbiased review as I scoured these reviews and many of them don’t represent our experience. Check in from the seaplane was seamless and we only waited 2 hours for our seaplane transfer in an air conditioned lounge. We were met with drums on arrival at the resort and given a brief welcome talk before being taken to our deluxe beach villa. We upgraded to this and we definitely think this was good value as we had an amazing location with sunset views even though we hadn’t paid for a sunset villa (rm 161). We had good twice daily room service with a well stocked minibar and our room was always clean with fresh linen. We loved spending the day in the peace and quiet by the villa snorkelling the fabulous reef. The reef is one of the best features of the hotel and we saw an array of marine life including the turtle, rays and reef sharks. It really is like swimming in an aquarium. We ate in Thavaa at three evening meals and one lunch. This is a selling point and I highly recommend booking this in advance before arrival as it is very small and gets very booked up. Cafe mass is great for snack food and is open 24 hours a day. The restaurant supervisor, Chatunuskka and his team including Saumya were very efficient and gave excellent service. It would be great if this did a breakfast or brunch as there is nowhere else to eat with a view of the Indian Ocean unless you are in the water villas. My top tip for eating is to go to Sufura (Indian) where you are guaranteed a warm welcome from Koshala and her fabulous team Ulla and Shiham. Failing that you have to brave the main restaurant which we termed the school canteen with staff who really don’t seem to take pleasure or pride in their jobs. The bar service is good and we enjoyed many evenings in the haliboli bar and sunset bar with delicious cocktails. I have to say if we had been closer to the Albino bar we would have used that more as we only did 5 of the 101 cocktails on offer. My other comment is that there is a very commercialised ethos at Adaaran - the dolphin excursion and sunset excursions are included if you stay for longer than 7 days but everything else is additional usually for the magic price if 150 USD ++. To this price is added 10% service and 16% tourist tax. We did have a lovely reflexology session in the Chinese reflexology centre which was good value at 50 USD for 50 mins. We did complain about the food service and we were treated to a lovely lunch at Thavaa but service should be like this all the time - not just when you make a comment. Would we return - probably not as for us we prefer the smaller, less commercialised islands.

Stayed with family and friends from 4 to 10 January, Beach Village 195 in Premium All Inclusive with 2 excursions included, both by boat (sunset cruise and dolphin cruise). Transfer to and from the island by seaplane.
The resort is surrounded by vegetation. The whole structure is very well organized, comfortable, cozy and well-kept.
The staff is helpful, very kind and very professional (greetings and thanks to Anna, our Italian assistant)
Great food in all restaurants. In the main restaurant Jaafaiy there is more variety and freedom of choice with themed culinary evenings. On reservation the Thavaa, sea view, Mediterranean cuisine and table service.
The room, large enough, is equipped with Maldivian bathroom. Excellent cleaning that takes place 2 times a day, daily change of beach towels as well as replenishment of the mini bar. Unfortunately the rooms are not soundproofed and you can clearly hear everything that is said and happening in the next room.

For me it was the first time in the Maldives and I must say it exceeded the rosiest of my expectations. A week of true relaxation. I absolutely recommend it.

A really enjoyable holiday... A dream (in my son's words) On arrival you're greeted with paradise, welcome drinks and very friendly staff.
I'd had a problem with a damaged suitcase during transit and they helped remedy the situation for my return flight.
Hotel throughout is immaculate. Housekeeping is exceptional, keeping you well stocked with drinks, clean towels, swept floors free of sand and even pull back your bed in the evening.
The food is varied and tasty. The bookable restaurant (book via email before arrival) is table service. It was my husbands birthday whilst away (inform before arrival), they had lots of surprises and treats on the day. A nicely decorated dinner table, special beach spot, birthday cake. Food once again was tasty and fabulous quality.
Cocktails (branded spirits) and wine (Australian) readily offered and available. Great choice for kids as well.
Although we didn't use kids club, the facilities were brilliant and they had a varied and interesting programme every day.
The location speaks for it's self, the wildlife and snorkeling are memorable. Be aware extras trips/watersports and spa are quite expensive, but that may reflect costs in this part of the world. The holiday package itself requires no additions to be any better than it already is.
I'd recommend the ADARAN SELECT hotel, it's quality, amazing friendly staff, who will go out of their way to assist. Demonstrated by the evening my husband hurt his foot, barman (Naziel) went out of his way to notice and order a buggy to transport us back to our room. We saw the Dr next day and again friendly, professional, spoke excellent English and as my husband knew what the issue was, only charged for medication required.
My recommendation would be to upgrade when initially booking your holiday to seaplane transfer. May add a few hundred to your holiday, but be aware after two long plane journeys, there is another internal domestic flight before the boat ride to your island. Unless you know your island is boat ride distance from Male airport, expect another plane journeys before the sea transfer. We upgraded while on holiday for our return but it'll be at a premium price.
Thanks again to all the staff who made our holiday a once in a lifetime memorable time 🙂

Exceptional, wonderful, welcoming are just some of the words to describe our recent trip to Meedhupparu, it certainly exceeded our expectations being first time visitors to this little piece of paradise. Crystal clear waters, icing sugar sand what's not to like.

Our deluxe beach villa was on the south side of the island which we actually preferred as the water was calmer.

Our room was clean and tidy with water, soft drinks and lager topped up daily. Fresh beach towels appeared daily. We absolutely loved the outside shower, what a novelty! The room looked a bit tired but that didn't bother us at all, it was perfectly clean and serviceable. The air-conditioning and ceiling fan kept the room lovely and cool. More hangers or drawer space for clothing is the only suggestion I would make to improve the room.

We chose this island aa it had several restaurants and bars. The variery of food and drink available was incredible considering its an island. The main buffet was busy so we tended to avoid this preferring the Sufura Indian restaurant which was smaller. The curries were the best we've tasted. We enjoyed learning about the cuisine from the chef in there. The staff were so attentive.

Our favourite place to eat was Cafe Mass and Thavaa restaurant. Cafe Mass offers a relaxed table service in the most beautiful setting beside the water. The team there is headed by Chathushka who made our dining experience amazing. It does get busy at lunchtime but we didn't mind waiting for a table. Chathushka made sure tables were allocated fairly and would seat us in the shade with a drink whilst we waited. The service was so efficient and there was no hurry to get you off the table. We spent many afternoon just watching the world go by with a delicious cocktail and a light bite. The staff were so friendly, especially Dr Hari (private joke), Armitage, Shafraz, Sumudu, Saumya, Smith, chamil and Saalim - gorgeous team who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a wonderful time.

Our advice would be to book Thavaa as soon as you get there otherwise you will miss a delight. The evening service is on the beach and comprises of a delicious four course meal with sunsetting behind you and a Saxophonist playing in the background - magical.
We spent a few evenings at the Sunset bar listening to two singers who were fantastic. The bar staff were brilliant, we called one of the 'smiler' he had the biggest smile.

Would we go back.....without a shadow of a doubt.

Absolutely loved our stay at Meedhupparu so much so that we have booked again for January 2025.

The resort desk at Male took our bags and checked us in for the seaplane before waving us off on the coach for the short drive to the seaplane departure lounges.

The lounge offered showers, changing facilities. A good selection of hot & cold soft drinks and food. It also had a large balcony that overlooks the seaplanes as they take off and land.

The seaplane was a fantastic experience (bucket list) and was included as part of our package. It took about 45 minutes and landed at a neighbouring island where we were then whisked away on a fast boat for a quick crossing to Meed.

Check-in was smooth and pleasant with you being greeted with a cool refreshing drink. We were then taken by a buggy to our room.

We booked a Deluxe Beach Bungalow and were given room 167. This room was sublime, it is located on the north side at the very end of the island. It was literally a stone’s throw to the sea. The room was large, had a central located bed offering sea views and a huge bathroom with the typical outside shower feature. The bungalows are semi attached and in a horseshoe.

Meed offers a good selection of restaurants and bars with all but the overwater one being available as part of the all inclusive. We made use of all of them and all were very good. The main restaurant is a buffet style, Thavaa is a’la carte and you need to book (book on arrival and make sure you book both a lunch and dinner). Café Más is next door to this and also offers a great selection of food with great sea views.

The snorkelling on the north side of the island is great, the reef/drop is a short swim from the beach and the sea life and corals are superb. I booked the Manta and Turtle trips and both were excellent (would recommend these, they have minimum numbers so be flexible around these. I checked the day before and moved my bookings around).

To finish off our stay we spent the last 4 nights in the overwater villas. This is a separate resort within Meed, you still have use of all of the island but at the same time you have your a private beach, pool restaurant and bar. You also have a butler who is contactable via WhatsApp 24/7.

The water villa was next level and comes with a jacuzzi bath on the balcony. The food and service in the restaurant is also to another level.

Was very sad to leave Meedhupparu and cannot wait to go back. I can see now why the island has so many repeaters.

We're humbled by your kind words and the full enjoyment of all the special arrangements we organized for your comfort, especially the birthday surprise for your partner's milestone celebration. We had a wonderful holiday here and loved more or less everything about the resort. We particularly chose this place because it sounded relatively simple and quiet, without excessive amounts of noisy water sports nor too much late-night entertainment. Everything suited our requirements very well and on the whole the resort was very peaceful. Our villa had supposedly been refurbished, but I’d say only partially updated, the wardrobe area being particularly worn. We loved the villa’s aspect opening onto the beach and were pleased we were located in a section where trees provided some shade, and a place to watch/listen to birds, bats and lizards. The beach comprised soft white sand with pristine turquoise water and the fish were amazing (learnt to snorkel with free-hire of equipment!). All the staff, from the most menial of jobs upwards, were very friendly, cheery and worked very hard to make the resort run smoothly and everywhere was kept beautifully clean…..particularly the constant sand-sweeping and leaf-raking! There were many nice touches like fruit & champagne in the room, a well-stocked mini-bar, and an excellent daily system of beach-towel replacement. We enjoyed all the food, although sometimes the main restaurant was noisy, hot and busy, though we always managed to find a quiet, cool corner. Some of the food choices were a little repetitive after 10 days but we didn’t mind that. The Indian Restaurant made a great change on several occasions, though we were less keen on the Mediterranean restaurant which one had to book well in advance. The transfer arrangements/porterage of luggage, etc were extremely well-organised with almost military precision!!

One of the aspects of the resort which impressed us the most (but which we don’t think many guests even considered) was the outstanding manner in which all the supplies came and went to the island without being seen and the way electricity was generated, water desalinated and waste products processed in the most unobtrusive fashion. We understand there was even a small fruit/vegetable garden providing fresh produce for the restaurants. Dealing with such huge numbers of guests in a sustainable way on a tiny island without natural resources must be a huge challenge and yet everything is done so well, and (most importantly) so discreetly. We never saw bags of rubbish lying around, or piles of laundry which are so often a feature of normal hotel corridors!! Congratulations to an astounding team - maybe you could run tours of “behind the scenes” for those quests interested in the eco-aspects of the resort?

We booked Meedhupparu through Best at Travel. Board basis was premium all inclusive, meaning we had a choice of dining throughout our stay. Our room was no. 277 on the south side of the island away from the main bar and pool area so a little more peaceful. The room was well maintained, cleaned twice daily with towel change on request, one nice touch being bottled drinking water provided in refillable glass rather than plastic bottles. Part of their environmental policy.

We split dining between the main buffet restaurant and Cafe Mass. The main restaurant always had a wide selection on offer including vegetarian and several curries. Cafe Mass offered a more limited menu such as burgers, pizza and a couple of local dishes but was more airy and had a wonderful outlook. Thavaa restaurant is the only one that needs booking and it does get filled quickly, so if you want to go there do book shortly after arrival. All the bars are well run, we really enjoyed the Albino Bar with its choice of 101 cocktails and the Sunset Bar was ideal for watching the sun go down over a G&T, be warned the measures tend to be rather generous!

Being a larger island combined with the time of year we stayed it was very warm, even the staff said it was hot. After a big storm shortly after arrival the humidity really ramped up, so the efficient air conditioning was welcome. All in all a wonderful break and still at an affordable price.

Our purpose is to provide our guests with a comfortable environment regardless of the external atmosphere, we're happy to note that our air conditioning units served their purpose. Thank you once again for your positive feedback. We hope to welcome you back to Meedhupparu in the near future. Warm regards, Anslam De Silva Resident manager

This holiday was the first thing. I never thought in my life you wouldn't get bored here. I am so positively satisfied with this holiday and will definitely come back. The staff is consistently friendly, zero intrusive but is always on hand if you need anything. The food is at its finest, there is a huge selection of partly German food to Indian dishes such as infinitely different curry. You can also try some extraordinary things and drinks such as high-quality wines, juices, cocktails and always a fresh water are always ready. The island has 4 restaurants and 4 bars in various places with over 100 cocktails. 2 restaurants have a menu with several courses (4 courses) (one of them must be reserved in advance-Cafe Mass). Rooms are cleaned daily and equipped with fresh towels. In the evening there is a turn-down service, which also cleans again. Each of these rooms has its own terrace, outdoor shower and a free minibar which is replenished daily. The outdoor facilities are also cleaned daily and always kept nice. Rain or sun. Hardly any vacationer manages without a rainy day, but this is also a very exciting experience (but on such a day there is also time for a few more cocktails ;-) ). By the way, Male’s rain radar can’t be trusted as a small tip either, as it’s far too far from Meedhupparu and spills it out of pots within seconds. So just hope for good luck. There are two ways to get to the island. Either by seaplane or by speedboat. However, the seaplane costs an additional fee. By speedboat you are then taken to the nearest domestic airport and from there taken by propeller machine towards Male. The wildlife on the island is very colorful and many small parrots belong to the workers there, but are extremely trusting. A small chicken family also lives on the island and likes to be seen in the restaurants. The underwater world is wonderful and colorful. You can see an infinite number of colorful fish, including reef sharks up to 2 meters in size, water turtles, rays, firefish and with a lot of luck Nemo the clownfish. Daily you can go 1 hour canoe or SUP free of charge and you can participate in two boat trips. Once on a dolphin tour for 2 hours and once on a sunset tour for 1 hour. Motorized water sports, however, cost something. On the whole it was one of the best holidays we have ever taken and we will definitely come back!

Continue like this to the Adaaran team ;-)

See you soon

We came with the whole family (5 people) to relax at this hotel in August 2023, and to be honest, I’m outraged, I’ll write why below, but first, a few pluses.
The hotel is quite good and the area is large. I liked the work of the waiters and cooks, the food was tasty, but monotonous, unfortunately. I highly recommend the Indian restaurant, it’s very tasty and the cook is a great guy, it’s clear that he loves his job. The room was cleaned every day, sometimes twice a day, but I didn’t like that they didn’t put any toothpaste in at all from the day of arrival, and they also forgot to refill the shampoo. I didn’t like the work of the Russian-speaking manager Irina. Many times they came with requests, but she was not at her workplace; she did not always help with requests. But the rest of the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The drinks menu gets boring after 5 days, mojitos and baileys come at an additional cost, which is very disappointing. It turns out that it’s far from all inclusive. Most of all, I was outraged by the work of the manager about whom I wrote above; it was of no use. The entertainment program is weak, there were only discos and live musicians a couple of times, there is no entertainment for children. The hotel is not 5 stars at all, 3 stars maximum.

I can only say what happened for us. Our flight back to the UK wasn’t until early evening. Our seaplane flight was arranged for mid-afternoon by Meedhupparu. Everything is superbly organised by the resort and all is taken care of for you, including transferring baggage and helping you check-in for the UK flight. The airport isn’t huge but there are a few shops and places to eat. In all our years of worldwide travel we’ve never had such a wonderfully smooth experience as that too and from Meedhupparu - they treat you like royalty!! On the way out there’s a lovely seaplane terminal lounge to enjoy!! Have a great time!!

Officially it ends at noon on the day of departure. However, we departed a 4pm and we were able to enjoy all the food facilities until we left the island. Having said that, we were in the Prestige Water Villas which has its own dedicated restaurant. It may be different for the Beach Villas and standard rooms. Best thing to do is either email the hotel direct (they are very responsive) or ask at check in.

Hi Jane, that is correct. We flew Virgin on the 11th January, and although the Virgin flight is 23kg and 10kg hand luggage, the seaplane is indeed 20kg and 5kg hand luggage. The seaplane does let you "pool" your luggage, so if there are 2 passengers, the total weight of all luggage cannot exceed 50kg. If your connecting transfer was via speedboat or domestic flight, you would have been able to take the full 23kg and 10kg with you, but not if you have a seaplane transfer. Hope this helps.

"The main restaurant is great but try to eat at least once in the restaurants dotted around the resort. Café Mass and Thavaa are nicer places to eat."
