What a terrible place to be, staff drinker than guests, rude drunk and incapable of doing their jobs. Waited 30 mins to check in to eventually be greeted by what I can only describe as a man of very questionable character, dirty clothes and clearly in a very 'merry ' state of mind, he didn't even know what day it was.... Tucked away at the end of Maldon is this old coaching hotel. The stables have been converted into Maldon Brewing, a small micro-brewery, and most of their beers are on sale in the bar. We only stopped for a drink, on a hot summers day, but it was such a delight to sit in the garden and relax! The beer... More

I have never stayed in such a poor hotel . Filthy dirty linen dirty , towels holes, the room light sockets hanging off the wall , toilet leaking which we reported to be told , oh yes you have got that toilet , that is a work in progress ..... The final straw was our children's got locked in there... More

My wife and I booked into this hotel recently based on the website (first mistake) as the hotel rooms are nothing like the website. We arrived to be met by no one at reception so had to walk into the bar which also seemed to be empty. Eventually, we managed to catch a member of staff's attention and were checked... More

Cant comment about staying here but if you are looking for a place to have a quiet drink in a cosy atmosphere this place is fine. The main bar has an open fire and the smaller tap room has a log burner. The beer and wine are both good and at a very reasonable price compared to other local pubs.... More

It's a good convenient location and a very interesting building. The young guy who checked us in and served at the bar was polite and helpful. The only meal we had was breakfast - this was good and was prepared and served by the owners. Contrary to other reviews I have read, both were friendly and helpful - and sober!... More

Great beer, seriously they really know how to store and serve the stuff. The beer, which is poured from their cask rack, is sublime and firmly beats the local opposition in to second place. I recommend Puck's Folly.

The worst food I have ever tried to eat. Let's just say I failed at eating it. New management in April 1st, it can't get much worse. On wards and upwards. The best part was the lovely bar manager who was very honest and extremely sympathetic. Let just say poor guy for trying to make up for this abomination.
