We didn’t stop at the hostel but visited the bar - both of us commented that we have rarely met a more miserable man than Michael the owner - on a positive his wife was very friendly and the burgers were very good
We went to Fujiyoshida on a non-peak season, which makes us the only person booked during our stay. The hostel comes with complete amenities. The staff is really nice and accomodating, but leaves the hostel at 10pm. However, if you plan or leaving the hostel at night and will be back after 12 mn, make sure you have the new code with you. Or else you will spend your night outside. The code changes every day at the strike of 12. Michael, the owner is very hard to talk to and the hostel staff returns at 9am.
Fujiyoshida is pretty quiet at night so this was the only place we could find for a drink - so glad we found it. Michael was manning the bar and full of useful advice and information about the local area. Well worth popping in and he's got a big screen for sports too. He gave us some great advice about a hike behind the local pagoda which made our day and allowed is to get high enough to get a great view of Mt Fuji. Thanks Michael!
An actual pub! With a tv and big screen perfect for sports! Michael is brilliant and the staff are lovely. Will put any sport on the screen for you. Great local knowledge and fantastic drinks selection!
This is a great and safe hostel to stay at while enjoying all that Mt. Fuji has to offer. The staff speaks both English and Japanese, which makes communication very easy. They are very knowledgeable about the area, sites to visit and how to utilize the many types of public transportation. They even had some discounts prices to local attractions. They are 5min from the Gekkoji station, with trains that can take you to Fuji-Q-Highland or directly into Tokyo. There are many styles of room types to choose from depending on your preference for Japanese or American style. The place is very clean and all your basic shared needs are provided, such as shower, toilet, refrigerator, microwave, computer, and washer/dryer (minimal extra cost). Micheal’s restaurant below the hostel is featured like an American pub that serves both Japanese and American food, which are great when you are craving your favorite hometown dishes. He also offers you a 10% discount if your staying in the hostel. He collects license plates from around the world, so bring one representing your hometown. Warning the building is locked from 10am-10pm, checkin is at 10am and the staff does not arrive till that time, so if you arrive early you will have to wait outside till the doors open at 10am.…
