Jungle Tribe is a small guesthouse and restaurant located in Bukit Lawang, Sumatra in a breathtaking location next to the Bohorok River and opposite the beautiful rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park, famed for being one of the last places in the world that you can spot orangutans in the wild. It's not uncommon to spot an orangutan or a hornbill from the comfort of your room or from the restaurant. We can offer the whole jungle package to individuals, small groups and families including airport transfers, accommodation and jungle trekking. We pride ourselves on providing this experience with full regard and care for this amazing ecosystem. We are committed to offering eco-friendly experiences which have minimal impact on the environment. Our boutique style rooms are perfect for those wishing to experience the jungle in comfort and the Jungle Tribe restaurant is well acclaimed providing an eclectic mix of Indonesian and Western food. Drop by for a meal or sample one of our Jungle power juices in preparation for a Jungle trek. Jungle Tribe has recently been refurbished and changed management. We are a family run guesthouse looking to provide each guest with a relaxing, comfortable stay and a perfect introduction or re-acquaintance with the jungle. We are passionate about Bukit Lawang and the jungle. We want people to enjoy this beautiful part of the world and pass on the message to others that it must be protected. We can offer trekking and a variety of day tours such as cycling, bird watching and cooking lessons. We are fully committed to following the National Park guidelines and we use only licensed, local guides who also follow these guidelines. Return transfers from Medan can be provided as well as hire of our adapted mini bus and driver to take you to other parts of Sumatra. We welcome families and have car seats for children aged from 1 to 12. Our location has direct access to a safe part of the river where kids can paddle and play.

I stayed with these guys for 3 nights and everything was fun, music, cooking, activities and lot of laughs. Very responsible and always ready to help me with anything. I know one day I will come back with them.

We booked the top room at the Jungle Tribe for 3 nights. I made the booking online in the UK. The communication was easy and good. The guest house is at the quieter side of the village, which we really liked. The room is light and spacious, so is the bathroom. It was amazing sitting on our balcony, looking out over the river and seeing the monkeys mucking about on the rocks across of the river. There is a lovely restaurant at the guest house, overlooking the river. While you eat you can watch the local wild life (monkeys, large lizards, colourful butterflies) coming to the river. The food that was served was so amazing that we never went anywhere else for food during our time at Bukit Lawang. The place is run by an elderly couple who are just lovely and so helpful. I would definitely recommend staying and eating at the Jungle Tribe!

We enjoyed the food at Jungle Tirbe so much that we went back multiple times. A lovely man was our host and the restaurant had a really nice view and atmosphere. We enjoyed relaxing over a few beers whilst waiting for our food. If you are in a rush then this isn't a good place to eat but if you're happy relaxing and watching the world go by then it's perfect. I highly recommend, some of the best food around and was served with a smile.

We stayed three nights here before and after 6 days in the jungle . Owned and run by the local Rambe family it offers comfortable accommodation with river views, balcony with visiting monkeys, jungle style bathroom in some chalets and nice big comfy beds. The family are most accommodating and will happily do whatever they need to please. We had a super stay here and can only recommend. No hot water in some rooms but your really do not need it! A nice little bar with views across the river ... go there!

My son and I stayed here 2 weeks ago at the beginning and end of our 6 day jungle trek and absolutely loved it. Although we arrived after midnight we were warmly greeted and immediately shown to our wonderful room-- enormous, with a high ceiling, electric fan. ample sockets, WiFi, superking size four poster bed and a large single bed, both with mosquito nets (although we had no problem with mosquitos at all whilst there). The large covered terrace with comfortable chairs and a hammock overlooked the river and the rooms location in my opinion cannot be beaten (I stayed at 2 other guest houses nearby last year). All of the decor was charmingly traditional and very clean and the bathroom was wonderful with a hot shower even during a power cut, which was the icing on the cake! Teddy's warm welcome the next morning set the scene for a friendly relaxing and comfortable stay with excellent service and very good food--so good that we never tried anywhere else. I would not hesitate to highly recommend a stay here and I will certainly be returning!
