Our experience at Sam’s Bungalow has been one of our favourites after months of travelling. The staff are so kind and helpful, in fact everyone within the village were genuinely happy to see tourists back here and made us feel so welcome. The bungalow is in a beautiful location, somewhere I could stay forever. The rooms were stunning and the balcony has a panoramic view across the river and jungle where we saw gibbons swinging across the trees. Jungle trekking is amazing! We only did a 1 day trek but it seamed more popular to do 3 days/2 nights. We were extremely lucky to find orangoutangs and 4 types of wild monkeys but our guide was incredible at looking for the clues to spot them outside of the large tourist groups. By booking the jungle trek through Sam’s Bungalow, me and my boyfriend had our own guide, who tailored our trek to what we wanted to see and made sure we were happy throughout. We’ll definitely be back to Sam’s Bungalow in the future, it’s somewhere I’d recommend to all my friends and family.

Located at almost the end of Bukit Lawang river. The bungalows is really cozy we have to extend our stay to 7 days. We booked via booking.com the std room but the owner told us to check the room first and he was right the std room has a very narrow stairs to the bathroom so we upgraded and pay 100K more (which soon we know it was a great decision after we took the jungle trails) -big spacious room with fan and cold shower (which is most homestay in Bukit Lawang are). They also have rooms with hot water -direct view hills and river -cheeky monkeys every morning visited us (don't forget to put inside all your belongings) -great foods at the restaurant (kudos to chicken curry vegetables and all juices) -contact them beforehand if you want to ask them bring your bags -internet is fast enough to watch Netflix both in the room and resto - before we check out, we use their laundry Don't forget to book jungle trekking with them, it is really good. We had camping by the river and river tubing the next day which is amazingly fun

Sam‘s place is the perfect place to sleep in Bukit Lawang. Had the upper room - very simple but clean and with jungle view from the bed. Best thing was the hammock on the balcony after my jungle trek, so relaxing! Also nice restaurant with beautiful jungle and river views. Had some nice talks with one of the staff, Pepito. And they even sent something I forgot with one of the next tourist busses to my next destination were I could pick it up. Thank you for making my time in Bukit Lawang extra special, would always come back!

I stayed here for a week with my husband and kids (8 and 9). Sam and Pipito are great people: caring and genuine. One if my kids fell ill and we had to take her to the hospital and they were very helpful. The hotel is situated at the end of town, which makes it a perfect, more quiet spot. They serve the best food in town - you should try their rendang, curries and fruit salad - that last one looks like a honeymoon dish <3 We also booked our jungle trekking (2 days) here. Our guide was awesome. I would really recommend all of it.

We stayed at Sam's 2 nights prior to a jungle trek and 2 nights after. Staff were welcoming and the room as good, it was 2 storeys with large bathroom downstairs. My only complaints were the main room was quite dark at night the globe's must be low wattage plus the hot water didn't last long which was only a problem when washing my long hair. The food was great! We ate at other places but they didn't come near the standard of Sam's. So we ate most of our meals there and the staff remembered our little fussy diet choices. The most amazing thing happened while enjoying a relaxing game of scrabble (games provided by warung) the staff pointed out a mother and baby orangutans that climbed out of the jungle and walked along the bank for about 80 metres. We had seen these orangutans a few days early during our trek (confirmed by our porters)!! I have no hesitation staying again or enjoying more great food at Sam's Bungalows.

We had a great stay in Sam’s Bungalow. The staff were so friendly and attentive, they made us feel so welcome. Our room was very comfortable with excellent WiFi. Food was delicious! We ate here both nights for dinner and enjoyed sitting beside the river. Lovely menu for breakfast, the banana porridge was so so tasty! Sam’s Bungalow organised our jungle trek for us. We had a fantastic day, our guides were excellent and made the day so much fun! Thank you for a lovely stay! 😀

Our 6 days stay at Sam's was like a dream! Everything was organized so well. Food: delicious local and western food. Variety of drinks (also beer and fresh fruit juices). Try the mixed herbal tea with fresh ingredients from the jungle. Must eat: pumpkin curry. Accommodation: lovely bungalows with spacious bathroom. Nice bed and balcony. Hot shower. Wifi available. Hospitality: best hosts ever! Sam and his crew made us feel at home. Spontaneous guitar and singing nights. Always with a smile. Location: good location in Bukit Lawang with beautiful view on the jungle. Everything you need is within walking distance. Tours: 2 day jungle tour was a real adventure ! Try to go with guide Wanda. He knows everything about the jungle. White river rafting was another highlight. Stay 6 days if possible and book directly from their website. They have many nice packages available, including transfer from and to the airport.

Thank you to your kind staff and excellent service. We absolutely loved the view, comfortable bed and the hammock on the balcony. Moreover, this place has warm water and wi-fi in the room. The staff were even willing to keep our unnecessary luggage whilst we were trekking the jungle over 5 days. We have also tried their food and their mix fruit pancakes and Sumatran coffee is delicious
