I stayed four nights in a row after a stressful week at work. The place had a magical effect on me, calmed me down, brought me back to enjoy simple things and the gardens...oh the gardens! A pure gem. I strongly recommend this authentic French style accomodation. The staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. But please do not go with... More

The chateau is very lovely. The hotel rooms are very large, clean and very charming. The breakfast area is beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. The gardens are spectacular. You really need to spend hours exploring, which we did. The owner is a lovely man who really cares about his family home. Don't expect the Four Seasons but if you... More

It started well, the chateau is old, authentic and has a faded charm. The grounds are lovely. Our room was large and very clean. Unfortunately the pillows and blankets were stored in an antique armour and when taken out filled the room with the strong smell of mold which was most unpleasant and hung in the air until we left the... Dear Madam, We are truly sorry that your stay with us was disrupts by Gaia, the dog house. Indeed, as you note, it underwent an operation and was pertubée during your stay, this is the reason of complaints that you have heard during the night, we apologize again. However, I should point out that a significant discount has been offered... More

The Chateau is in the grounds of Parc Botanique, a Brittany contemporary heritage listed garden. It has approx 23 themed gardens. There are only about 5 rooms with breakfast in a formal dining room downstairs with views of the gardens. All bedrooms have outlooks over the gardens, though 3 rooms overlook the lake and major garden area, quite large and... More

The gardens and setting are an undoubted positive. But as for the rest................? The chateau itself needs a lot of TLC. The approach down an unmade road ends in broken down outhouses. The entrance hall and staircase are dark and dusty. No staff is available on site after 6pm. The so-called bar is actually a tea room for the garden... More

We decided to treat ourselves to somewhere a bit special on our last night in Brittany, & came across this chateau. We had the Monet room, in Empire style, quite beautiful & spacious & with a striking bed. The toilet was rather different & picturesque as well! The view out over the garden was well worth the price. Alain Jouno,... More

My wife an I stayed here as a base for our four days in Brittany. The Hotel, or should I say Chateaux is hard to find but worth the effort. The Chateaux goes back more than 150 years and is pretty much the orginal building from the time. The present owner bought it from the orginal family some 30 years... More

We had an amazing time here. The chateau was beautiful and the owner was wonderful. We spent days wandering the gardens, counting how many bridges there were, and petting the horse. We will definately go back, it was very special.

We stayed a lot of wonderful places and this was our favorite. It is difficult to find but once you do you have a chateau to yourself!!!. It is close to Fougere which has excellent restaurants and Mt. St Michel where you don't want to stay (too touristy) The chateau is lovely and inviting. The rooms are very large and... More

My wife and myself arrived the Chateau de la Foltiere in August of 2007 for just one night. The Chateau is located basically in a very nice garden "Parc Floral", but the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. The near by town is located about 10 minute drive. When we arrived at the hotel, we noticed that the owner... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle of Foltière is in the heart of a romantic landscape in the middle of the "Parc Botanique de Haute Bretagne", near Mont Saint Michel (35 km) and the medieval town of Fougères (12 km). Visitors in search of beauty and serenity, this is no ordinary hotel. You will not find reception on entering, no red carpet or a staff that rushes on you to carry your luggage, but the reception will be more friendly ... The rooms, which occupy the first floor are serviced by a lift and a monumental staircase. The five rooms are available, all have their own style. They are very spacious and comfortable and have kept the charm of prestigious residences of the nineteenth century. They all overlook the botanical park. Nota Bene : ALL our guests enjoy UNLIMITED access to 24 thematic gardens of "Parc Botanique de Haute Bretagne". ... more   less
