A 2 night getaway with my favorite human. Spacious rooms, sparkling clean bathroom, great water pressure. Amazing ocean view from our huge bed. The tranquility!! Special thanks to Joseph and the chef!

Situated on the beach south of Bagamoyo. This is a new hotel with an excellent swimming pool and gardens. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were fantastic. We had a cottage for 4 people. The bedroom downstairs had AC but the bedroom upstairs in the roof area only had a fan and was too hot at night.

I stayed with a friend at the Family Cottages twice as part of a three week trip through Tanzania in July 2018. Arriving in bustling Dar Es Salaam, we drove to the Cottages, arrived in the evening and were greeted by very friendly and helpful employees, who helped with our bags and even made us some food. A very warm welcome. It was idyllic waking up to the peaceful and serene surroundings. Our cottage had a beautiful view of the ocean. We ate a really tasty breakfast next to the swimming pool every day, served by the very friendly staff. We stayed for a week the first time, where the manager Kevin, who spoke very good English, was so kind to show us around Bagamoyo the city and the surrounding area. After the week long stay, we went on an exciting safari through Tarangire and Serengeti, which the Family Cottages helped arrange for us. We then went to Zanzibar but ended up leaving earlier than expected and instead went back to the cottages for a second time, where we knew we could relax. Once again the stay was enjoyable and a much needed break from the sometimes hectic big cities in Tanzania. ' The one thing that could be better was the wifi. Although there was wifi it could have been better but reliable internet can be hard to find in Tanzania, not just here. We actually thought it was nice to not constantly be on the internet but rather just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the sound of the ocean. I am currently in touch with the cottages, trying to arrange a stay there for when I go back to Tanzania next time. I will definitely be back.

Bungalows are big and clean with nice terasse to the Indian Ocean. The pool is good too, and water in the sea was almost hot when water came back on the afternoon - the tide is quite big but in the mornings it was nice to follow local people to collect seaweed and fish on the shallow water. It takes about 0,5h to walk to Bagamoyo by the beach. On the way there is a nice restaurant Funky Squid. When knowing that there is no internet in the hotel area and mobile network was not good either, you can have nice and relaxing holiday in Family Cottages. You can find internet e.g in Firefly in Bagamoyo.

We arrived unexpectedly without booking, hopefully the staff was very kind and helpful. We found a very clean bungalow for the whole family for 185$ per night for a family of 5. I believe this is a bit above the usual price for the place but never mind, the place is nicely furnished and located in a very calm site on the beach. The bungalows are large and the swimming pool is quite big and well maintained. We slept very well and got a solid breakfast (fruits, juice, tea/coffee/milk, eggs, pancakes, toasts, sausages...) in the morning before enjoying the beach and sunbathing. The beach was quite clean compared to other places nearby Dar es Salaam. I do not recommend the food. You have to order 2hrs at least before eating and the choice is very limited (chicken, fish, chips, mash, spaghettis, rice). There is no menu and no fixed prices. I left with the feeling that it was overpriced and was even a bit surprised when the receptionist put a part of the cash directly in his pocket. When I asked for a TRA (the official receipt with tax)... "the machine doesn't work today". This is the usual sign that there's a rat somewhere... So great location, nice place but be careful! PS: WIFI? Yes but "it doesn't work today". In fact there is wifi but not for the client it seems.
