We recently visited this resort and we had the best stay of our entire trip , beautiful location excellent rooms , Very nice hospitality, Food was amazing , it's a must visit place if you are traveling Kerela
We had a lovely vacation in Kerala. We stayed at Taj Kumarakom, Kerala. I will provide some details for my fellow travelers. We took a pre-paid taxi from Kochi International airport. The counter is available both inside and outside the airport building. The 80 km journey cost us about Rs 3300. There are two routes, one through the toll road and other the meandering village roads. Time taken was about 2 hours 10 minutes. The Taxi service was good, and the driver was extremely polite. Kumarakom does not have the regular touristy touch. It is meant for people who are looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the nature. Taj Kumarakom is a small resort, located near the Vembanad lake (the longest lake in India and largest lake in Kerala), and the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. The hotel is built on the properties of the “The Baker’s Bungalow”, which dates to 1881. The rooms of the resort have their own old-world charm. Dining option is limited, as there are only two restaurants. The food option, though limited, is awesome. The high point of the resort is the evening tea, where you get the feel of the “Chayakada”, which translates into the tea shop in Malayalam. You get tea, pakoras and freshly made cakes, which you devour while witnessing the best sunsets ever on the lake. Another activity is the fish and tortoise feeding during the evening tea. At 8 pm every evening, a half an hour of cultural program held near the restaurant. Outside activities that you can do: • House boat rental (04 hours to full day). You can book through the resort and just walk down to the boat centre located nearby. Enjoy buying prawns and crabs from local shops and get them cooked on the house boat. You can also enjoy the famous Toddy on board. • Local shikara outings (1-2 hours). We rented the shikara through the resort. • Village tours • Walk through the bird sanctuary. It is next door to the resort. More of a walk through the vegetation. If you want to see the birds, you can see them during the sunset, the house boat cruise or the shikara tour. Beware of the mosquitoes! • Visit Alleppy by road. • Purchase spices, tea, and coffee. There is a nice shop near the resort: Daynmerry and Nature’s Nurture showroom. • There are some good restaurants in and around Kumarakom, where you can have the local cuisines. Most of these activities starts early morning. Even you are not planning to go anywhere in the morning, just get up before the sunrise and seat in front of your room and enjoy the bird sounds. There are plenty of fish in the pond in front of the room. The swans too make a lovely company. You can feed the fish and the birds or watch how the birds fish their morning breakfast! One evening activity is the raft ride in the pond. It was a lovely experience specially in the moonlight. The in-house spa is also a superb experience. About the resort: One of the lovely resorts we have come across. The staff are extremely polite, ever smiling, and helpful. A special thank you to GM Dinesh Varma and his Team for making our stay so comfortable. Points for improvement in the resort: The swimming pool is a neglected area. The water level was low, so we could use only the deep end of the pool. It closes at 7 pm. It should be kept open till 10 pm. The room door key is still of the old type. It should be changed to the card lock and key. The resort has license for wine and beer. You will miss the cocktails. Our journey from the resort to the airport was also good. As the resort transportation cost was on a higher side, we hired a taxi from a local cab (Pepper’s Paddy Tours). Very nice service. Cost was Rs 2800. Enroute, we stopped at Chaithram Bakery at Paravoor junction and bought chips and biscuits. The products were superb. A word about Kochi Airport. It’s the first green airport of the country. Runs on solar energy. The building was superb. The Earth Lounge was a letdown, as the food quality was not up to the mark. That wraps up our excellent trip to Kumarakom. …
Simply amazing, the property is beautiful, the food is excellent but above all the professionalism and effort that's taken to make my stay most memorable!! Your commitment to ensuring that all of my needs were met was truly commendable. Your warm and welcoming demeanor was truly appreciated and helped to make me feel at home during my stay.
Many thanks to Dinesh Varma the General Manager for overseeing operations at this resort. Executive chef Manor Pander and their staff excelled in providing great food and customer service. Highly recommend the morning shikara. Going through the back waters and seeing the birds was awesome. Highly recommend anyone visiting Kerala to visit this resort.
I have stayed in many Taj properties. Although all the Taj properties had some thing to boast off, I think Kumarakam experience was the BEST of all in terms of hospitality. I specially appreciate the humble staff here who were forever ready to help us and give us the service. They made us sooo comfortable that we felt as if we visited our own family here.We would like to specially thank this one staff called Joel (I think he was at the restaurant). He was soo humble, nice and friendly, always smiling and ready to service us with anything. The other person I recollect was Priya (she was at the reception). She was soo genuinely caring for our needs and making us comfortable. We just happened to mention to her that we missed our anniversary last month and were celebrating it after a month. She immediately took it upon her to ensure we enjoy the best of the hospitality at Taj. There were many others who went out of their way to make us feel good. The other gentleman Biju who was soo humble. We happened to mention to him that we were into history and he just took us through the hotel and told us all the stories about the property. he even gave us the book to read on Kumarakam. Overall this was one of the most memorable Taj experiences we will cherish for all our life. Thank you :)…
We had spend two days in taj Kumarakom to celebrate our baby moon. The property was beautiful and very well maintained . The staff in the resort where very hospitable. Special thanks to ankul and Santhanam who went above and beyond to make our holiday extra special. Overall we had a very memorable holiday.
It had been a immense pleasure to be there cans feel the hospitality of Taj kumarkom. The entire group of PTMC SOUTH INDIA FEB TOUR had enjoyed there Excellent professional skill of all the departments specifically Priya Pratheesh
The Property is right on the road little away from the busy city life. It's a wonderful world inside the property. Calm, close to nature, extension of Wembanad lake is awesome. Staff is very courteous and humble. All facilities are great. Food experience was not that great in terms of spread/options . Taj has a std, which needs to be maintained. But overall experience was nothing short of mind blowing.
It was a fantastic experience to Have stayed there. More than the stay the staff made us very comfortable and will ensure that we visit again. I would to extend our sincere thanks to miss priya, Neetu and Gayatri, They have stood out in making our stay unforgettable .
