Hotel Stekl is in a great location - basically right next door to the castle, which is apparently modelled on Windsor Castle in England. The entrance is on a private road and so you need a parking permit - which is not very clear until you check in. Check in was a bit slow and in general I'd say that customer service at the hotel was average-to-poor. For example the first time we dined in the restaurant, when I ordered they told me that the meal I ordered wasn't available: if there are items not available, why not tell people up-front rather than waiting until they're ready to order? Another issue with the restaurant is that the menu doesn't change: that means that if you're staying more than a few days, you're going to want to look elsewhere for dinner if you want some variety. The rooms are a good size, but somewhat dated in appearance and the lighting is flourescent, meaning they lack atmosphere which is a shame given the four-poster bed for example. The common areas of the hotel were cold, especially when people failed to close doors behind them (e.g. door to restaurant). The exterior doors are very large and noisy to close - one evening there was a lot of slamming as people didn't seem to bother to be very considerate to guests who might already be in bed. We also heard a very long argument between some guests in a neighbouring room so the insulation can't be very good. The spa facilities are pretty good - small pool, jacuzzi, private jacuzzi & sauna, gym. Again though it's odd that you would arrive in the spa and they don't offer you a towel or anything. Overall it's a good base of operations but they could make a lot more of the location.

My husband and I really enjoyed our one night stay after cycling to the hotel from Cesky Krumlov as one of our recommended stops on a self-Biking tour. The hill up to the castle and hotel was a challenge, so we Felt treated to make use of all the hotels amenities: hot tub, swim/plunge pool, salt steam room and onsite restaurant. We also enjoyed the castle gardens only 300 ft away and had the place to ourselves walking around taking pictures of the castle at sunset. We had a romantic dinner onsite before sleeping pretty early as we had to check out and cycle again the next day. I thought the room and bed was comfortable enough, it is an older place, felt a little ‘shining’ like in the halls at night as was not very busy time, midweek. However, I slept well and the room had everything you need, robes, slippers, hair dryer, shower had good hot water pressure. I enjoyed opening up the classic windows and shutters to let the hilltop breeze in the room, we did not miss air conditioner. In the morning the hotel provided a breakfast, I’d say that was just average but I was happy to have it included for the convenience. I’d recommend this classic Hotel if you plan to visit the castle and if short on time like us, this was a perfect spot to stay.

Around the corner from the Hluboka castle it is in a gorgeous location overlooking the town, the ponds and the vicinity. Room 304 is huge, beautiful, well-appointed with spectacular view and enormous bathroom. Staff very helpful. Breakfast nice and dinner delicious and affordable - everyone pleased with their choice: veal schnitzel, gnocchi, osso bucco, and my game medallions with chestnut purée. Would love to come back. Third floor "Deluxe rooms" must be a misnomer because they are attic rooms with small windows. Unfortunately, even in the hot weather no fans were available. Parking free in front, for a fee in an underground garage.

In the right hands - presumably non-Czech ones given this country’s innate struggle with hospitality and politeness - this huge place, in its great location adjacent to a castle and overlooking the town - would be a great place to stay. As it is, poor service and sometimes, barefaced rudeness undermine this potential. Checking in, the porter merely watched us struggle with our bags rather than helping. At dinner, we were rudely told we couldn’t order desert because the “chief” goes home at 9pm (even though it was actually 8.50). The tuna steaks we ordered arrived massively over cooked then, after we sent them back, we received new ones that were semi-frozen. Want proper coffee or bottled water with breakfast. “Is extra. You pay.”. On the plus side, nice amenities including a spa and decently sized rooms. But what a lost opportunity. This place is crying out for decent, caring ownership. Instead you get a crash course in how the Czechs just can’t do hospitality.

I am really disappointed! Only good thing is location and that some staff is friendly. Sometimes I used to celebrate something in this hotel, this time was last time. Room was not prepared - no bathrobe ,no slippers... (no bar)...bathtub was destroyed etc. (About wellness area -was quite dirty -especially pool and around and not in super conditions)we were more time by reception to resolving neverending problems. Last night talking with receptionist, the woman told us to talk with next receptionist in the morning - ok we did - the women was arrogant and no interested (16.8.2019) with last words to send an email to manager of this hotel....I am sorry , but for full price I paid,I am waiting better service. I see it is not just problem of this hotel, but I understand already why a lot of Czech people are going to another countries to spend holiday, when we are treated so.

A great little hotel with bags of character next to the main castle so a great location. Very helpful staff. The rooms are spacious in period style. The wellness centre is excellent with small pool, hot tub , bowling , golf sim and massage available. Best is the Restuarant which in my opinion. Is amongst the best in Czech Republic and reasonable prices with a nice wine list to go with it (I recommend the dry Hibernal white organic). Every dish was cooked just right and well presented. You could find fault with the rooms for sure - bathrooms are a bit dated and the robes are old - but this doesn’t really detract from the overall excellent experience. We stayed as a family of 6 with 3 rooms from standard, delux and royal suite so we sampled them all! Thanks for a great stay and friendly service . Would stay again anytime.

This was a lovely hotel with tons of character. My kids loved their quirky room. Rooms were clean and we had a terrific view. We were only here for one night, so we didn’t get to take advantage of all the things they have, but we did walk up to the castle which was lovely. We had dinner and breakfast there - all very good. Would stay there again.

We were in hotel Stekl for three days, and it was beautiful. Old style of this atmosphere we felt everywhere. It is situated close to Hluboka castle. We were staying in the room on the second floor. It was large, clean and comfortable. There were a big snow white bed, beautiful chairs. I especially like pictures on the walls. They seemed to be talking to us. There are jacuzzi with warm water, small swimming pool with very cold water and modern gym on the first floor. It all are absolutely free for guests of hotel. The breakfast area was huge in old-style restaurant with a very good selection of breakfast items. There was great coffee which was made by coffee machine. There was free WiFi in this hotel with not a very high speed, but signal was stable. The ladies at the front desk were absolutely the nicest and helpful as anyone could expect. They provided us all local information. We grateful all staffs of hotel for time we were there.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a night while on tour in Europe. This was arranged by the tour group we were touring with. The hotel is right next door to Hluboka castle which was convenient because we had an early tour to the castle the next morning. Other than this , we were quite disappointed with the hotel over all. The hotel has a charming courtyard setting almost like a small castle entrance. Check is was average being with a big tour group. The frustrating part is there are two sides to the hotel. One wing offers an elevator to go up to the rooms and the other wing has NO elevator at all. Our luck, we were placed in the wing with NO elevator. It was a struggle to bring our suitcases yp the stairs. I think for handicapped people or people who cant be carrying luggages or bags up the staircase , this proves to be an inconvenience. I have only Come across a few hotels without elevators and to me this is a deal breaker. We had a dinner set up also in the evening with the tour group in their main dining facility and the food was inedible! The food was horrible . The rooms are very small and very old , outdated and don’t smell very good, almost mildewey in smell. ALL rooms have no Airconditioners, so if the weather is not cool it may be uncomfortably hot in the rooms. We left the windows open and it was not too bad because it was a bit chilly already. The beds are very very small and the beddings seem very old and dirty and they only give you one tiny pillow on each bed that seem very old, it didn’t have any fluffiness anymore . There are very few outlets in the room and the one outlet did not work at all because the wires were already all sticking out. A fire hazard I may think . There is a small closet and the bathroom ....even if it was a decent size had the worst shower. The style of the bathroom Almost reminds me of an attic where one side is on an angle. The angled side happened to be in the shower stall. We did not think of it as anything at first but once we took showers realized that even if you are 4 feet tall you couldn’t even take a shower standing up. The way the ceiling angled did not allow anyone to take a shower standing up. We had to kneel down or sit while taking a shower. The shower floor Was also rounded so even kneeling down was impossibly hard. There was no shower curtain , to get into the shower (bathtub style ) was hard because it was very high and the hand held shower was heavy . It was not a very good experience even just for a night. Everyone in the tour group had the same complaints so i am assuming rooms are basically the same throughout the hotel. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this area , we had such a bad experience and so did everyone else on the tour.

A big disappointment! The first thing which we discovered was that the toilet did not work. It was fixed then. Next problem was the noise. We had booked a quiet room which was confirmed to us one week before. Then we were placed in a room above a courtyard and hotel restaurant where a wedding was celebrated. No other room was given to us. Internet did not work in the room. no air condition in a 4 star hotel. We were told that nobody is responsible here and the manager was away. When we asked for a refund since this was not what we had booked, we were also told that nobody who was present could make a decision. Staff just don’t seem to care. At the end i was told by receptionist Kamila that i should come down to the reception if i want to use the wifi. Never again this hotel, absolutely not recommended
