Harar needs a decent hotel and this isn’t it!! I would recommend looking for a nice home stay as the Wonderland does not live up to its name and is frankly depressing! That said we enjoyed visiting Harar old town
I've been all over Ethiopia for a month now and have been to over 200 countries. The Wonderland had a clean bed and bathroom was fine. Enough hot water but remember the tank is very small so you should take a camping shower. toilet worked and bed was comfortable. Breakfast at o700 had scrampled eggs, toast, coffee, and papaya juice The thatched roof didn't leak rain water on my bed like the forest hotel. Nor did the power go off at night, leaving me stumbling with a flashlight like other hotels. The lock worked just fine. I think there are a lot of whiners reviewing this hotel. I've stayed in real one stars around the world. Good enough for me.
Wonderland has a great location, speedy room service, and the doubles are spacious and lit. The singles seemed a bit smaller with less windows. Singles are east facing, doubles west. The doubles can hear the traffic quite a bit and the walls are moderately thin so you can hear the neighbor's tv. Most staff are very friendly although some don't seem overly inclined towards proactive problem solving. 600/700 as of January 2020. The included breakfast was normal, eggs, lots of white bread varieties, injera, firfir, wheat porridge with peanut butter and honey. Restaurant doesn't seem to have fasting foods, just burgers and tibs and such. There was NO HOT WATER when I was there. Overall, I quite like it, the fun staff, the big rooms and room service juice and coffee make for a nice break from more basic guest houses inside the jugol. And here, you're only just outside the city gates!…
The pits. Shower did not drain. Complaint lead to change of room, where shower drained after a few minutes. One towel for two guests. No bathmat. Restaurant did not have fruit or juice. Breakfast very limited. Best for me was watery oatmeal with honey, cold hard bread with peanut butter and coffee. First room window opened on some kind of shaft and was covered with a grimy curtain. Second room just had windows in the bathroom. Internet only useable in the lobby. There has to be better than this for such an interesting place as Harar old town. Location great.
It's really an amazing hotel on the middle of harar market there breakfast is very good in short it's recommended the most important is the water and the electric 24h are on there staf are very helpful
