Rooms with a balcony facing the sea have a wonderful view and are very comfortable. The bathroom was perfect with strong water pressure in the shower. Beds were very comfortable.
There is a fantastic parking area.
The rooftop terrace is fabulous. Food was outstanding and service was perfect.

Breakfast was sadly a bit basic.

We stayed two nights - before and after our trip to Punta Galinas. In- and checking out is terribly slow. Rooms are nice and the showers are really great and provide excellent hot water. Unfortunatedly our last night was at the eve of the carnaval parade and until 5am in the morning the noise was horrible as windows are not double-glass and due to the construction of the hotel the sound comes everywhere. There is an excellent bar at the 10th floor where meals are served too when we visited. (The hotel keeps bags at no cost and well locked. The security guard is very alert and helpful. When we left the hotel towards Santa Marta, he wrote carefully down the number and details of the taxi and driver!! Very attentive.

I stayed for five nights on business. I had a 'junior suite', a large room facing the front of the hotel with a balcony.

The room was comfortable, with a comfortable bed, good air conditioning, a big desk, and a comfortable chair. Good hot water in shower.

A lovely view off the deck.

There were two problems.

The biggest was weak and intermittent internet - It was not dependable, and most of the time I had to rely on using my iPhone 'hotspot' as my internet connection. There is reliable internet elsewhere (universities, government offices, etc). This was a major problem for me.

This might not be a problem for tourists.

The hotel needs to invest in a better system and better routers. They charge three times more than other hotels, and can afford to do this. The routers are ancient and insufficient.

They also need to invest in sound proof windows and glass. Once again, for the price they charge, they owe it to their customers.

This is reputedly the best hotel in the city. Keep in mind Riohacha is the second poorest city in the country, and must be judged in that context.

Tipping the staff really helps.

The hotel is really nice. The value you get is very good. The room is equipped with everything you need. There is even a mini bar. Staff is really nice. Breakfast could be better and a bigger variety.

The air condition was either too weak or too strong. In the night from Sunday to Monday there is a party at the Malecon which is really loud. It feels like you want to sleep in a club. Make sure to bring ear plugs.

The rooms lack maintenance, there are few outlets to charge the phone and the wood is a little old. Some rooms have little natural light. The terrace has a very cool view, you can see the entire beach and the boardwalk. The food is delicious and the location is central.

Very nice location. Nice rooftop for drinks and sunsets. Good price. Clean room. Excellent air conditioner. We would stay at the same place again. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast could be better and add some strong colimvian coffee to the menu

This is probably the best hotel in Rioacha. This is a very poor city so you can't expect too much. The staff were friendly and accomodating. There's also a very nice rooftop bar/restaurant where you have breakfast. The rooms could use with a bit of paint but are comfortable. There is air conditioning, WIFI, and in suite bathrooms. The WIFI speed was fine and the breakfast was also adequate. You can also use the pool at a nearby hotel for free. Overall for what's available it is fine if you are there for business.

Very comfortable with a very helpful staff. Rooftop restaurant and bar is just terrific with a spectacular view of the Carribean and the beach. Rooms are cozy clean and spacious. You should seriously consider staying here!

It is the best hotel for occidental tourists, but it is quite expensive.

Great breakfast with local products, great roof bar with nice views over the beach.

Also the room was nice and very clean. The staff was not the best happy and motivated staff, but I think it is something cultural.

Overall, very good service (best in town) but it is still too much expensive.

A favorite with my colleagues from Bogota when they travel to La Guajira. The rooms are clean and well appointed. Staff are friendly. The rooms can get loud noise from the street or nearby discos but this is a common challenge. Dinner service on roof terrace can be unusually slow. But a great place for a drink afterwards.

Also, would it be possible to have a driver take us from Riohacha to Minca?
Answer from Stephanie S
Minneapolis, Minnesota95 contributions56 helpful votes
Yes, you can definitely get private transport to the Hotel Taroa in Ricohacha. It will probably take 4+ hours via private car. The hotel is the nicest in the city, but the noise from the beach bands can be tough during the weekends. Less than a block down the street from the hotel is a travel agency. You can arrange a trip to the Waayu villages with them. I recommend going to the village which is just about 40 minutes out of town via car. You have to have a translator with you, but it was a nice trip.

Buenas tardes, el valor depende el plato que usted elija, la terraza solo cobra un cover consumible los días jueves, viernes y sábados porque tenemos música en vivo y el valor es de $ 20.000, los cuales $ 10.000 son cumsumibles
