WHAT IS MADEIRA SURFING LIFE? MSL is a project that shares a lifestyle with those who are willing to connect with the sea. The project has six dimensions: Lodge, surf school, Yoga, shape room, surf trips and event organization. It´s aim is to allow people from different origins to engage in an island odyssey and create the conditions for a deeper surf experience. We want those involved to understand better the sea and the type of tools that can be used to surf different types of waves. We will accompany those engaged through a path that starts with building the board up to the use of those magic carpets! Our mission is to facilitate an authentic surfing experience and of a life style associated to the sea and Mother Nature.

Watching surfers at various locations around Madeira's rugged coastline I was reninded of news videos of surfers going out to sea in the teeth of a hurricane warning, or riding huge waves into what look like deadly cliffs. In Madeira we also watched wet-suit clad surfers struggle, in harbour-smooth conditions, to remain upright aboard waves too small to produce a stable platform. Near Seixal, on the northern coast, some reasonable waves were being used to advantage by a half dozen enthusiastic individuals (photos attached). There were no surfers aboard at Jardim do Mar the day we went therem but some serious waves were coming ashore Photos). There are competitions held at Jardim do Mar during winter months, but the rocks, natural and man-made breakwaters, present a serious safety hazard. During gale conditions hure waves crash upon these shores.

Great place to stay, very informal and cosy, very quiet for a heat night sleep and, to relax on the wonderful balcony, to read and meditate, having the sea at your feet. Only 10 minute-drive away from Funchal, this hostel has a magic touch to it! We spent 10 wonderful days there, and will surely come back next year! Thank you Abilio Pinto for being such great hostess!

The Madeira Surfing Life house is a really amazing place. Madeira is known to be a "mountainous" area, with many amazing walks around the island and its Levadas, and that means STUNNING views are pretty much everywhere.. The MSL is situated in a beautiful little town called Campanario, just before Ribeira Brava, and it's probably about 2000ft above sea level, so when you wake up in the morning and open the shutters, you look out onto the south coast of the island and the ocean, it's beautiful. Equally, the garden area is the perfect place to chill with a beer and watch the sunset. Billy is a great host, and knows the island like the back of his hand, so he will be the best guide and instructor you could ask for. Campanario is pretty central so we found it the best place to be for all activities because its at the most about 30mins drive from anywhere you want to be.

Great accommodation with an amazing view. Billy is a really good host and will make sure your stay in Madeira is a memorable one. The lodge is situated right in the middle of the south coast, so you can get around the island quickly and easily.

Besides the amazing views, the house is well equipped. As a surfer Ribeira Brava was a good base, all spots are a similar distance away. They have a really nice terrace area that is perfect for beers and sunset sessions. Definitely recommended for surfers and non surfers. Billy is a great host and knows the island and spots like no other.
