We got blown over the road from the ferry terminal into the Foveaux Hotel on a sunny day down visiting Bluff. We were unable to travel over to Stewart Island due to the seas being too rough & lucky for us due to our change in plans were able to find accomodation at the Foveaux Hotel. Mike the owner was absolutely wonderful & helpful organising a room for the night. We loved the coziness of the hotel & how downstairs offered a separate dining lounge & kitchen table experience. We loved the electric blankets & slept very well indeed. It was so nice to be warm tucked up inside the hotel hearing the wind roaring around the buildings something I hadn’t heard before but absolutely loved! We really loved the large ensuite bathroom too. Thank you Mike for making us feel so welcome during our stay in Bluff. We highly recommend to all …looking forward to coming down & staying again soon! (Best Bluff fish n chip next door too.) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟…
We arrived there, well after 14:00 after finding other guests outside, stressing that the hotel was locked. We went back to our car, sorting things out there. After a while, saw the other guests on the top floor. Went back in and was surprised to see the owner inside but the front door was still closed. He then informed us that he had to downgrade us (did not give any reason) but will still charge us the same price. There was not a big difference in price but no apology or anything. The confirming e-mail to me read: "As such, this email serves to confirm your booking of our Queen Ensuite Room with Balcony for the night of Saturday 4 June 2022 at a rate of $150 per nigh" I was extremely disappointed and said so. He replied that we were welcome to go to another hotel. No kettle, fridge or anything in the room. Toiletries I just packed away as this was a total no with covid during your holiday. What we enjoyed was good wi-fi, tv channels and to park our car while going to Stewart Island.…
I would highly recommend staying at the Foveaux Hotel while in Bluff. The owners were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area. He stayed up late to keep the bar open for us and made sure he was at the accommodation for when our other guests arrived as he thought we would be out Shark Diving. The place was old-timely and charming, and the breakfast was simple and exactly what we needed with a 6am start. They were very accommodating with allowing us to access the kitchen for breakfast and when we asked to change bedding. A lovely gem and I will be staying there again when I am in Bluff next. Sam
Mike and Pam were the perfect hosts. They went out of their way to look after my elderly grandmother, even driving her to the ferry terminal in the morning. The hotel itself is in quite an old building but charming and well-maintained. The wifi was a little slow, but other than that, had a really good stay.
We loved staying here, what an awesome little place! Please enter here with a fair expectation of staying in a small guesthouse in small town NZ and you’ll love it. The decor fits perfectly with the era of the building and it’s context. Bedrooms are comfortable and all needs are met with toiletries, comfy beds, heaters and electric blanket. The bar is a great place to hang out with generous pours at the bar, a warm fire, TV and plenty of comfy seating. Breakfast is simple but perfectly adequate and excellent advice on tap from wonderful hosts. Loved it!
I can highly recommend this place. From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. When we asked to watch a movie in the bar / lounge area, the fire was switched on and lovely warm popcorn was served! We then watched a good Netflix movie with wine and popcorn. The resident cat was a cutie, I love the way he sits at the reception waiting to check you in and out.
Pam and Mike were fabulous hosts Very informative about the area and very attentive to our needs The hotel was spotlessly clean We will definitely stay again Many thanks and we will definitely recommend to all of our family and friends Matt Chris and Olivia
Stayed at this hotel for one night and had initial reservations about shared bathroom. But there were no issues once we had checked in. Walking distance to the Stewart island ferry terminal and the hotel happily allowed us to leave our car in their car park whilst we stayed at Stewart island. Host Mike and Pam really made us feel at home. This place is recommended.
Had a great time time at this Hotel, The owners are wonderful, and made it feel just like home. Didn't get a change to have any meals there or have a drink in the bar, as we were doing other things, but the setup looked great. The Hotel is older, but that is all part of the charm.
We came to bluff to go shark cage diving and needed a good rest before that. I booked the foveaux without expectations, but i have to say i loved it. They make you feel like home, everything is super clean and nice, very warm indeed. They took care of our bags while we went cage shark diving and then let us stay till our shuttle arrived (without any charge) quite late. Lovely people and hotel!
