We booked 10 nights at Al’s Resort for a more than fair price (€180 p.p) with an offer found on Trip.
Before booking, we looked at the reviews of all the hotels in Samui, including this one. In view of the comments and the ratings given for this hotel, I can't hide my fear before arriving... The comments were either disastrous or brilliant so I would like to put things in order...
On a positive note I would say the location first, it all depends on the vacation you are looking for, if you want to be close to bars, clubs, restaurants, shopping centers etc... the location is by far one of the best we have observed. The beach, a rather large and clean beach with a small beach bar with lovely staff (again one of the best beaches we have seen in front of a hotel). The swimming pools, clean and really nice, not too big, not too small. The staff more than welcoming and helpful, day and night. The bedding was comfortable, the room was clean when we arrived (I would like to point this out in view of some comments). Beach towels are available to us on the restaurant side, which is really practical.
Concerning the negative points, I would say the mid-stay cleanings which are not included and unfortunately there is no cleaning facilities in the room which poses a problem especially with the sand… The bathroom side, it lack of towel racks, in fact, there is only one which is complicated when there are two of us with bath towels, beach towels… The air conditioning which is a little doubtful, it works very well but complicated to adjust it and water came out of the air conditioning which soaked all our belongings (but nothing serious, it's water lol)
To conclude, for 10 days with a total of 360€ the value for money is by far one of the best in Samui. This hotel is honestly very good and I think we will stay here again if we ever come back. I repeat but it all depends on the vacation you are looking for, if calm (despite the noise being minimal) is your priority do not linger here on the contrary if you want to be close to everything with a limited budget and simple assets like a pretty swimming pool , beautiful beach here is the perfect place.

Great location. Beachfront with great beach, lovely warm calm sea.
Beanbag’s & parasols are plentiful.
Lovely pool area with sunbeds (music a little loud)
hotel location great. Few minutes walk to all the shops, restaurants and nightlife. Easy access without the noise.
Great Thai restaurant just on the left as you walk out of the hotel before you reach the main road. Would definitely recommend, you won’t be disappointed.
Food & drinks available to buy at beach bar. All arrived hot & were really tasty.
Dining area has great views of the beach but they provide the most basic breakfast we’ve ever had in a Thai hotel.
No pastries or croissants but there is a choice of brown or white bread to toast with jam etc.
Coffee is extremely weak like they’ve watered it down but there are posters advertising other types of coffees you can purchase at an additional charge.
No fresh egg station available instead precooked fried eggs in a serving dish.
Salads, meat & yoghurt unfrigerated so warm.
Even the orange juice/cordial is nearly as warm as the coffee. When I & several other guests asked them for ice we were just told none available.
No Thai welcome or smiles from staff at the breakfast dining, they all look really sad & miserable.
We booked the delux room which is ok but bed is beyond Thai firm it’s rock hard & no other seating in the room.
Although the TV had a couple of English channels the signal was usually too weak to get a picture.
Could be a really nice stay if they just didn’t scrimp on a few basics & the breakfast staff looked like they wanted to welcome their guests each morning

Als is a resort with direct beach access that offers day passes for non-guests at the very reasonable price of 250 baht per person per day. This entitles you to full use of the facilities including the pool with its swim up bar, sun lounges & restaurant as well as bean bags on the beach with shade umbrellas. They also provide towels & a bottle of water. We had a great day, ate lunch in the restaurant which was well priced & good food. We also ordered an early dinner on the beach & had delicious tacos & nachos. We swam in the pool & the ocean (a lot because you know, it’s Thailand & it’s bloody hot 😂). Highly recommend it to anyone staying in or visiting Chaweng Beach.

We booked gala dinner there for the New Year Eve. They said the buffet will last till midnight, but when rain started, they just removed all the food and we didn't get any compensation. The staff were very aggressive. At the end we went to the neighboring hotel to continue the dinner, which was much better

Dear @ danasD808UC, first of all I would like to thank you for your feedback and bringing this matter to my attention, I am very sorry to hear about this kind of problem you and your family had been facing from the night of New Year’s Eve. Unluckily, we faced the problem of rain during the night. We removed and set the 65 dining tables for four times within 4 hours. We then needed to remove the buffet line on last removal because of the rain run through the food. I had investigated the team; they paid you money back for one person, who just came close the time of food removal. We do apologize once again that our New Year’s Eve night was not the right fit for you and your family. Please accept our apologies. Thank you for your understanding in this unfortunate matter. Regards, Ms. Natthanarawee Chardchollabot Resident Manager

Our door didn’t lock, no privacy since all rooms have only sliding doors , no windows. Our safe didn’t work. We also asked for the room to be cleaned 4 times in our 7 night stay and NOT ONCE were our sheets changed or rubbish taken out, simply made the bed. On one occasion left us with no toilet paper and also didn’t change our towels even though we had left them outside to be changed. We also had a tour booked one day, which turned out to be cancelled after we contacted the tour provider, she told us she had rang the hotel 2 hours prior and wanted to speak to us, but the girls at reception said they would pass on a message - we sat outside reception waiting for the tour for over an hour and nobody called our room prior or came out while we were sat outside. Don’t be fooled by the pitcures. Location is good but rather pay extra 10 euro a night for somewhere where you can feel safe and private in your room and be assured that it will be cleaned at your request. Every day leaving the room we had to hide our passports and money under lots of clothes because the door didn’t lock and the safe didn’t work. We weren’t the only room though as we saw 5/6 people around us request a room change due to the same issue. Staff are unhelpful and lazy and the beds are uncomfortable. The worst place we have stayed in our 3 weeks travelling Thailand … AVOID

Dear guest, We do thank you for taking the time for your review. Regarding your long review here are our replies… 1 - the door lock - the guest who are staying at your room has no problem regarding this matter 2- safe indoors - the safe works but sometimes it is hard to understand the configuration for which it seem like yourselves could not keep up with 3 - cleaning - your room sign was unfortunately saying “do not disturb” most of the time you had stayed with us. 4- toilet paper - this happens and yourselves had to inform us on spot so that we could provide additional ones. We do understand not every guest uses the same “sufficient” amount 5- tour - the tour you had bought not from the hotel but outside. Therefore, regarding the cancellation, initially the supplier had to call you, not the property. But we still do apologize that we did not inform you about what your supplier had told us. 6 - pictures - all our pictures on the website reflect exactly what we have. (We had no complaints about our website and OTA web sites. (Evidence for our future guests, please check all our reviews in which you will only find a few ones similar to this - and they were replied as above) 7- staff - we totally disagree in this matter since on all the platforms and almost in all reviews we are given 8/10 for our staff behavior and the evidence is already on all platforms. Overall we do understand that sometimes based on moral status some guests can go very negative. We do welcome you as is. Last but not least, here are some of the reviews we got from the guest who stayed with us exactly the same period you did A) “Magnificent” rating 8/10 B) “nice hotel, we overall enjoyed it” rating 10/10 C) “very good value for money” rating 9.6/10 D) “good and friendly hotel” 9.6/10 (Dear future guests, please check the comments as evidence) Nevertheless we thank you for staying with us during your vacation for 7 consecutive nights. Respectfully yours Al’s Resort Team

We spent a week at ALs and found is quiet comfortable and safe. It is central so has a bit modern European style shopping complex across the road. No one begging, no one scamming. You pay sticker price and all good.

The action clubs pubs are just down the road, like a block and your in it all.

The staff helped us a lot, changes our rooms when we wanted more space, organized taxis, answered our queries, no fuss just good honest people caring for their guests

Right at the beach! You can jump from the pool right into the sea. You pick up your towels at the pool.
The staff was very nice at the pool. The room was very cozy and felt very at home.
When you walk up to the beach there are multiple restaurants and activities to do such as jet-skiing. They have marked an area for swimming at the beach, so it's not a disturbance but complimentary to the ambiance.

The beach is just stunning, very chilled out space and wonderful to see the lanterns lighting the beach at night. Make sure you treat yourself to a beach massage also them ladies have magical hands. On the whole we would stay again and was sad to leave. Well done team Al

No, and all these standard and deluxe are pretty basic and quite dated. But it’s still a great place to stay in an excellent location. The suites are a lot better but more expensive

Guys, In general, the temperature will be perfect at around 32C per day. You WILL get rain, but it's not bad rain. Sometimes it's once a day in August, but it's still no problem. Just make sure you're not taking long motorcycle trips where there are no bars/shops/restaurants to stop at or you'll get wet. If you're anywhere near your own accommodations (like Al's) you're great. Just have a drink or snack or cold coffee. The rain passes quickly and the air is cleaner. Embrace it! DRC

Im just a frequent guest, but a answer for no. 1; this is "city center". 22 meters behind the hotel. Will say it starts at Central Festival over the street from this hotel. Ark Bar is 222 meters up the beach. Just far enough so you dont hear the noice. Børge, Norway
