As authentic oldeworlde as you get. Quaint old Inn in a sleepy arty village. Hearty breakfast, typical local pub, almost waiting for Basil to pop down the stairs. Nice mix of locals and tourists gives a real feel to this historic gem

Hi Michael Thank you for your review, we are probably more proud of our locals than we are about our famous Inn. Your return visit needs to be timed around some of Bathurst's great events. Visit at the Bathurst show in 2017 More

Bathurst is a charming and historic little town, qualities that are exemplified by the Historic Pig and Whistle Inn. I had a very pleasant and all-too-brief one-night stay here in June 2016; my room was spacious and comfortable (with a wonderful old-style bathtub,) the food was excellent, and the service friendly and helpful. I also throughly enjoyed chatting with some... More

Just like staying in an English country pub in the heart of South Africa, The Pig and Whsitle is full of charm and character. Staff are very friendly as are the locals, The four poster bed and old fashioned decor feels like you're stepping back in time. Very comfortable couple of nights in the quirky little town of Bathurst, would... More

This place has so much charm and a very "homely" vibe. We had a lovely stay in a very neat, clean and spacious room. The restaurant's food was great and very good value for money. The staff were extremely attentive and cheery. Natalie is a wonderful host and making guests feel welcome seems like second nature to her.

We stayed in one of the on suite rooms, and it not only had a shower but a magnificent bath tub. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the building is full of history as it is the oldest pub in South Africa. We spent a Monday night here and it happened to be steak night! All rooms have recently been equipped with new beds and Percale linen. The first owner, Thomas Hartley, built this house in 1821, a three story dwelling with 2 bedrooms on the top floor.
