Had high hopes based upon the previous reviews. However, expectations were not at all met. 1. There are 2 dogs on the property that are older and bark when cars arrive. I was told that they are friendly and they seemed to be so upon greeting. However, on the second day I was riding one of the bikes and one of the dogs but my ankle. I sent pictures to the management and received an apology as well as promise that the dog would be contained. There was NO difference in terms of the dog roaming free. We had a 4 year old and were very much on guard with her for the remainder of the trip. Additionally, I asked to speak to the owners who were out of the country and were told that he would call me the next day. However, the owner never called. It seems that the owners have returned to Finland and it’s unknown how much oversight or management that execute. 2. The room was not made up on 2 of the 4 days until following up to request late in the day. 3. Despite scheduling breakfast for delivery at certain times the day before, we had to follow up when it wasn’t delivered. On the last day, half of the routine continental breakfast items were unavailable. 4. The jacuzzi is not very hot and the sauna only heats to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. This is extremely subpar for any spa let alone a Nordic spa.

Very relaxing and comfortable experience. We stayed at the smart container and enjoyed the tv and coffee maker. Bed and pillows very comfortable and cheeseboard and breakfast bed very delicious. Jacuzzi is pretty relaxing and most fun of all we adopted a puppy.

Thank you for staying in Lumi, and especially for adopting. We were surprised by the two pregnant dogs that decided to stay in Lumi, and we were so grateful for all our guests that decided to adopt. What an experience for us and even more so for all the pups!

I really dislike leaving a review that's not mostly positive. But the truth is that the Lumi is just average. The overall experience was just a bit "meh". And it is very, very expensive for what you get. So do not believe all of the reviews that give this property 5 stars. Maybe it was just our experience. Our family stayed in two rooms: room 2 and room 9. The latter had an incredibly awful septic tank smell throughout our entire two-night stay. My stoic mother bit her upper lip and just "dealt with it" throughout her stay. But it was horrid. It wasn't until the end of the stay when I discovered how disgusting it was; it smelled like putrid feces. Room 2 had a minor bug infestation/issue. See the attached picture. These creepy-crawlies were coming out of the floor-boards. Maybe they were termites? I don't know... but we noticed around 10 of them.. which means there surely are more. Also there was absolutely no Wifi in Room 2, although it was quite strong in Room 9. To get Wifi, my wife and I had to go to the top of Room 2. Whatever. No big deal - I didn't go there for the Wifi. I've traveled more than most...to luxury hotels and meager places in developing nations. I am not picky! And I'm fine with 2/3-star modest rooms. But if you're going to give us something that is "just OK", you shouldn't charge nearly $200/night for it. (but I suppose, in retrospect, much of the Valley is way overpriced compared to the tourism infrastructure that exists there). I will say: the design aesthetic and interiors are quite beautiful for transformed containers. And it's set in a beautiful part of the Valley... in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful part of the country to wake up to. Also in defense of the hotel, the management emailed to offer me a 10 percent discount on my next visit for my troubles. Nice gesture, but I won't be going back.

Thank you for taking the time and writing a review here. All the plumbing issues have been obviously fixed since your visit, I was sad to see you had to deal with that during your stay. The wifi is definitely a different level than in any city, Valle is still a rural area and there are no great internet services to offer. We decided to actually hire two different companies, because every now and then one of them fails due to weather, accidents etc. Since our property is so big, it is difficult to maintain the exact same internet capacity in every container. If our guest mentions that good internet is a necessity (f.ex. for zoom), we make sure to accommodate them to the rooms that have best connection. Once there will be better service rest assured we'll be among the first to install it. And as for the price I think it is important to consider the location. We travel a lot as well as a family, and of course there are city hotels or beach resorts with more services for the same price BUT they are close to services and employees as well. Here in Valle we pay the same amount of taxes etc. but don't get the same services. Unlike in Ensenada we don't have water or sewage from the city, no garbage service nor maintanence of the roads, the electricity is installed by us, internet is more expensive than in any city, employees come from Ensenada so we provide them a car -and the list goes on. And of course, we are not a 100 room hotel, just a 10 room hotel. So with higher expenses come the higher prices. We have always tried to keep the prices to the very limit, so if you look in Booking you will quickly notice we are the moderately priced option in the area.

We were the first family to rent the casita. The area is beautiful and we arrived on a Friday evening to an empty reception area where we waited about 15 minutes for a nice worker to show up. Unfortunately he was not used to checking anyone in and tried his best to accommodate us. The worse complain was not realizing the jacuzzi was unable to be turned off until the whole family had gone asleep. It was very late to call reception and then wake up the hubby to let him know someone was going to come in to fix the jacuzzi would create chaos in the much needed time to rest. I was a zombie waking up several times to unsuccessfully turning it off. I had nightmares of tsunamis (w/o exaggerating) and my whole Saturday was draining as a mom of little ones I got no sleep (some can associate to this). The next day, we had so much fun feeding the sheep and it is a beautiful place indeed. The same day-Saturday - a worker showed up who brought coffee and fixed the jacuzzi. Also the manager Sonia apologized to us for the night before with the check in and the jacuzzi situation. At that point it would have been nice to be offered a discount or at least something like an extended check out or even a donut lol but she just said sorry. She was nice though but i think she lacks management experience and should have taken ownership of her mistake to leave unprepared staff and a broken jacuzzi on before she left on Friday knowing this would be a new house to present. Despite it all the kids had a blast riding the little bikes, playing with dirt and doing a bum fire. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant next door that starts with an X and they have excellent wines! We will for sure come back and hope to have a better first day. We checked out on Sunday and will miss our relaxation Lumi brought us.

Thank you for writing the review, for giving well deserved advice and comments. Yes, as you said you were the first to stay in the house, and unfortunately the jacuzzi wasn't working as it should. They just installed it the day before and didn't have the time to fix the issue. But I understand not only that affected your stay, and I'm so sorry about it. We have small kids as well and completely understand that leaving your home to stay somewhere else is precisely to be able to relax and enjoy the time together. I'm relieved that you and your family still managed to enjoy Lumi in general, our neighbor Xaroma and other aspects of the place. Of course we're more than happy to give you a good discount if you decide to visit us again -which we hope you do! :)

We stayed at Lumi for 2 nights in February as part of a couples trip and really enjoyed ourselves! We picked it because it was super cute, reasonably priced, pet friendly, and focused on warm/cozy features. Nothing disappointed while we were there! Communication was VERY good. They communicated with me both on booking.com and then via WhatsApp. The roads around Valle de Guadalupe can be unpredictable so they made a point of staying in touch to ensure we didn’t get lost trying to find the property (Google Maps found it fine, FYI). Once we got in the room there was a QR code that answered all our questions in both English and Spanish. Breakfast was a tad carb-heavy but utterly delicious. Coffee and orange juice plus fresh fruit with unsweetened yogurt and granola and fresh baked bread with honey, butter, and marmalade. We appreciated how sincerely welcome our pup was at Lumi and the little pup pack was a really nice touch. It was very chilly/rainy on our second day/night there so we were REALLY glad we picked Lumi. We stayed very toasty with the mini split heaters and the sauna/jacuzzi. We appreciated their focus on creating an all-sensory experience down to little details like warm fairy lights, robes/slippers, and line of coordinating scented bath products. The shower was a n utterly divine experience. We knew the full window in the shower had to be one way glass but YES we still ran outside to check and be absolutely sure! The overhead rain shower and PIPING HOT water made me absolutely melt. I had a lot of internal conflict, my head said save water but my heart said THIS SHOWER THO. The bathrooms even had little extras in them like cotton swabs and rounds. It was a bummer that the weather prevented us from enjoying breakfast on the terrace like we had hoped, but that just means we’re going to have to come back and try again. We noticed a few projects going on and the whole property has this feeling that it’s booming and there is even more to come. I looked at this property on Google, Booking, and Trip Advisor plus Lumi’s own website and I noticed they seem to be slightly behind on updating their media to reflect all the features/improvements they have added. The landscaping is more complete (and beautiful) than the video on their website, and they don’t often mention they have 5 separate fire pits (firewood and s’mores supplies available for purchase on site) and that they have plenty of bicycles scattered around the property for guest use.

Second stay here- this time with our baby and toddler. As amazing as the first time but even better to enjoy it as a family. So unique to have such detailed attention to kids and families and still feel like it's an indulgent adult stay with the jacuzzi, sauna, beer on tap, delicious rooftop breakfast, and stylish container rooms. Love the bathrooms! The attention to detail and service are really remarkable. Local zoo and wineries are all incredible and great value. We typically don't return anywhere but have vowed to make this a yearly family tradition. One of our favorite places we've visited in the 20+ countries we've been to.

Stayed here for 3 days/2 nights and it couldn’t have been better! We stayed in a queen room and it was a perfect size for us. Sonia and the staff were extremely hospitable and the breakfast and mimosas were an added plus during our stay. We’ll definitely be coming back!

My first time at Valle de Guadalupe and we were so glad we chose to stay at Lumi. We really enjoyed the container rooms with the rooftop deck and the Scandinavian flair was a nice touch. We were glad to get out of SoCal with so much of its restrictions and spend some time at the serene Valle with wonderful wineries and restaurants. We will definitely be back! My only complaint was the sofa bed which was way too lumpy to sleep on.

Beautiful property. Exceptional customer service. The amenities were far beyond what many offer: sauna, hot tub, fire pits, room service, beer on tap for free, breakfast served on a personal rooftop… The list goes on. Pet friendly. They even have a dog spa. And they offer a ton of packages that you can add onto your reservation for a customized visit. The property and room were extremely clean. Be prepared for a truly off-road drive to get there. But the staff is really kind and they will guide you through it so you don’t have to worry about getting lost.

Lumi is a tranquil, charming, and a great concept! The converted containers are unique and cozy. The bed was comfortable and the shower had this breath taking one way glass window where you can take in the scenery as you shower. They have rooftop decks to enjoy a glass of wine or a delectable meat and cheese platter. The hot tub and sauna in the evening relaxes you while you drink self-serve beer on tap with IPA. The breakfast was simple yet perfect consisting of orange juice, coffee, fruit, yogurt, and a soft warm bread. The bicycles were fun to ride around in, my dog did not enjoy chasing me around but she needed the exercise anyways. The staff was helpful and kind, even chatted with the night person on duty who lives on the grounds. I highly recommend and will be returning soon! Mariel D.
