A great location overlooking the bay, castle and harbour. Quite a few steps to climb to the entrance but well worth it. Pleasant conservatory to enjoy the views. Rooms on the small side but have all modern amenities. TV not working when we were there so they gave us a reduction.

Our room was roomy warm and inviting after a fairly rough crossing from Oban. The weather was bleak so we also appreciated the home cooked meal we had in the rather dark and dingy dining room.a splash of white paint would make all the difference.

We spent 3 days here last week. It is not one of the modern chains of hotels, identical in whatever city you happen to be visiting. Castlebay hotel is of a bygone era, very individual, comfortable, and has a very welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by the superb friendly staff. Our room overlooked the village, our close neighbours were the sheep on... More

The hotel continues to offer the visitor good value accommodation and very friendly ; efficient service. There is a good variety of rooms available. The hotel is situated perfectly for all amenities and island touring...the lounge and conservatory are a great place to relax with views over the bay. Breakfast is excellent with a great choice. All staff are very... More

First of all, the only good thing about this hotel is it's location to the ferry terminal to Oban. When we arrived and parked the car in the so called car park we had to walk past the outdoor smoking/drinks area which was littered with cigarettes, matches and general rubbish. The tables looked disgusting too. We had paid for a... More

At £139 for a twin room, this was way too expensive. The room was small, had an even smaller window and was tired and dirty. The lid of the toilet was detached before I found it and it was difficult to get wet under the shower. The window was either wide open or closed and because of the heat, we... More

So on the upside, this hotel probably has the best view in town and it's got a lovely collection of photographs of the island and has some nice traditional touches. The staff are also warm and welcoming and helpful but unfortunately, the place is a little neglected and as a result, I felt over charged for the room as it... More

Lovely cheery welcome! Great room, comfy bed. Excellent food. Really nice staff. Good wine list. Entertainment next door authentic and great atmosphere. Would love to go back! We ate in the restaurant and could not fault our dinner. Breakfast was of a very high standard too. Staff gave tips on places to see. Sadly we were only there for one... More

..which was " good in parts". So, the good (and important) parts. 1. The young staff are enthusiastic and friendly and welcoming and utterly charming. 2. The location is convenient. 3. Our room at the rear overlooking outhouses and hill was quiet. 4. The Bar and dining room have an old world charm - with a great view. 5. The... More

We stayed here for two nights on a recent tour of the Outer Hebrides. We had a large room overlooking the bay, and enjoyed watching the ferries come and go, and all the activity in the harbour. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings, and the food was good on the whole, though some strange combinations, such as goats... More
