I had my second encounter at the Craigard Hotel with my dad during a recent trip to the Outer Hebrides. We had a really lovely me, with my dad having the salmon whilst I sampled the steak pie. Both main courses were delicious and we had room for a desert too, which was equally good. The view from the restaurant... More

Called in for lunch yesterday. Staff attentive and friendly. The food was plain fair but no complaints about the portions or prices. It was that good we decided to go back today. While we were eating a coach party arrived and the staff managed with great efficiency. Well done to all. Food good again today.

This hotel may not be the poshest but it is one of the friendliest places I have ever visited. It has seven rooms - all of which were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had amazing views over the bay and out towards the castle. The food was reasonable and not too expensive for an evening meal and the lounge was... More

We ate here twice on a recent visit to Barra, the second time because the weather was so bad that we didn't want to walk further than we needed to from our B&B to find a meal. Food OK but disappointingly 'traditional' given the abundance of local seafood (and we did not think all was freshly cooked, rather than microwaved).... More

Great location. in the heart of Castlebay overlooking Kisimul Castle. But that is it. Room and bathroom outdated and small. Expensive and definately not worth it. Hotel quite old fashioned but no excuse for grubbiness. Layered dust on skirtings and sockets and chairs. Breakfast quality poor and attitude was worse! Which is why we chose to eat elsewhere. Younger staff... More

We had a room overlooking the harbour (Room 7) and paid £120 per night for it. Bedroom and bathroom a bit tired. Food adequate and the portions large. Stayed for two nights on our tour through the Western Isles. Bar was a welcome after a day out.

The Craigard hotel is in a lovely location overlooking Castlebay, and it was fine - the reception staff were helpful and the room was clean and we had everything we needed. But for the price we were hoping for a lot better... We paid £130 for one night for a small room without a sea view. The shared parts of... More

Had a lovely meal in the lounge bar. Scampi was lovely. Stunning views across the bay even in horrific weather. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and well presented. Reasonably priced, fast service and good food! Next time I'm in Barra I'll just book my room here

The hotel is in a great location on top of the hill overlooking the sea, easy to find but then Castlebay isn't very big. Main entrance to the hotel is via the car park at the rear of the property. It all looks a bit tired and dreary to the eye. There was nobody to help carry our cases up... More

We stayed at the Craigard last week for 4 nights. It made my first experience in Barra one I will never forget. We had a full cooked breakfast every morning which was delicious and had dinner twice. The seafood selection was superb and cooked to perfection. I had the cockles (definitely the best I've had), salmon and steak both cooked... More
