We came here for the chance to fish tarpon. The fishing gods conspired against us but that is why it is called fishing and not catching! We came knowing that the place is an eco lodge operating "off the grid" and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. In our opinion, the food was great, the guides very experienced, and the owner Augustine, a...

This is a terrible place. Very limited Electricity, No hot water, no Air conditioning. One night I asked for a fan, a young woman brought it to me and was very nervous checking out my room. The next morning no Phone, no Wallet! the screen door did not lock, and it was too hot to sleep with the door closed....

We are off the grid; we don’t have hot water and no air-conditioning. We are a fishing camp in the rain forest. Mr. Williams indeed loosed his phone and money. He came with other tree friend from Louisiana. He did not mention that they also came with 4 local Nicaraguan from San Carlos of dubious reputation in town. They were...

We went to El Rio San Juan for Semana Santa and stayed at the Montecristo River Lodge. The hotel is located on a hill top that overlooks the river and what an impressive view it is. At the top of this hill there is a palapa equipped with hammocks and rocking chairs, the perfect place to chill out and just...

The Montecristo River Lodge is off the beaten track, but relaxing. The owner is extremely accommodating working non-stop to get us to the lodge when it appeared that the boat from San Carlos might be cancelled. The lodge personnel are extremely friendly with the meals, simple but delicious. Unlimited beer and rum was a wonderful extra. Rooms are spacious, but...

The open-air, palm-thatch-roofed pavilion on a bluff overlooking the Río San Juan is equipped with rocking chairs and hammocks - a wonderful place to mellow-out, read a book, drink a rum & Coke, and watch the river & boats roll by . . . and hear howler monkeys across the river in the late afternoon. The food is simple, but...

Yes the place have seen better days, but we are working on remodeling, we live in a difficult place, the rain forest and politics in this neck of the wood have made us more sustainable and we have simplify our operation. We are now providing fan to some of the cabin, to be use at night. We operate off the...

Jamie and myself stayed at this lodge for 3 nights. It was safe, remote, quiet, awesome food, clean and best part the fishing was awesome. The Retired Tarpon monsters are here year round, along with many other species of fish. Our guide Abraham doesn't speak much English...but it was fine some hand gestures and our Spanglish he putts you on...

We were off to a bad start because we missed our first day at the lodge. All the boats headed to the lodge were full, as we arrived on Sunday and the boat schedule is limited on that day. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable, and was nicely tiled. We paid $5 each for breakfast (first place...

She arrived at 7:00 AM to the lodge, we were not expecting then, our check-in time normally is in the afternoon. They are budget traveler and bargain hunter. They pay about $20.00 per person when our regular rate is $75.00, there is a big difference. Our foods at $5.00 for breakfast and $10.00 for lunch or dinner is reasonable priced...

Service: We had to wait for 35 minutes before someone acknowledged our arrival (and they knew what boat we were coming on). There was no power or water until 6:30pm in our cabin since they had simply forgotten to turn it on. No one showed us the grounds. No one explained that there were horses or hiking trails. No one...

We use solar power; a branch blown by the wind had disconnected the electric cable that connects to their room. As soon as I founded out, I did fixed myself. We do close the water when rooms are not in use to save water; we are off the grid, someone forgot to reopen the water valve. No big deal around...

It is a shame. This place has potential, or at one time it was quite grand. We were the only guests. The setting is beautiful and the grounds are vast; there is an active cacao plantation and they are cultivating vanilla. There are many other fruit trees, horse pastures, and jungle. There is ample opportunities for bird watching and watching...
